Comments: I haven’t talked about it on here yet but over the last year/year and a half, I have had a pain in my upper left abdomen (stomach area). It has been off and on over that time, but over the last week or two has gotten a lot worse. It hurts the most when I am sitting in the car. Whenever I eat or drink any large quantity of something I feel sick to my stomach and have indigestion (despite taking Prilosec). It is pretty aggravating to say the least… So, I am trying to get in to see a doctor/gastro ASAP. In the meantime, I’m just trying to keep the workouts puke free. I have had ulcers/similar issues in the past but this is the worst one to date. I do know that the pain pills I have taken here and there for my foot pain are supposed to be really bad for my stomach so maybe that had something to do with it…

Metcon: Probably not the best choice for avoiding puking. Still escaped without hurling. That was a good metcon all around. This metcon served a dual purpose. 1. I wanted to try running in the Bondis but didn’t want to do 5 miles. 2. I didn’t want to run far on my foot as I would like to avoid taking pain meds right now. The shoes felt good. A little clunky but very soft. Definitely the least amount of foot pain I’ve had in a while. I guess that was a success. Might go ahead and mow the yard. Have a good one!

Sorry to hear about the stomach Trent. :frowning:

Hopefully the docs can get you sorted out quickly there. I have acid reflux, stress induced per my doc, and have to take meds or I am constantly needing to clear my throat. Drives my wife, and myself crazy. Your issue sounds tougher than mine. Again, hopefully it’s something easily sorted with a med with little side effects.

Agree on the Bondi, they are clunky, but man they feel like putting clouds on your feet.

Impressive workout today, especially considering the circumstances.

Thanks Shane. Things like this are pretty nerve racking for me. Since my dad died of esophageal cancer, it’s easy to jump to lofty conclusions about the causes of these things… I try to stick to less fatal causes in my mind though. Hopefully it is an injury, cyst or ulcer that isn’t a death sentence. I’ve had several endoscopies but the last one was 4 years ago, so, in theory, something could have happened since then. The swelling is the weird part. I’ve had my weight lifting belt hit it before when doing deadlifts. It almost feels like there is a tennis ball in my stomach. Anyway, I will have to get to the bottom of it. Hopefully it is nothing crazy…

Edit: Perhaps the only comforting thing is that I had something similar to this about 7 years ago and it eventually went away. Who knows???

Comments: Drove out to the beach this morning at 7:00AM. The tide looked a little too high for the south end, so I drove up to the north end and it looked much better. There was a thunderstorm brewing, but I thought I could beat it, or maybe it would stay offshore. I went back to the parking lot and waxed my board and ran out onto the beach to the site of (basically) the end of the world thunderstorm overtaking the beach as everyone else was exiting at a brisk pace. I smartly decided to go back to the van and wait it out. It ended up being a bad storm, so I hung out in the van and worked for an hour on my laptop. After an hour, it went from bad to worse, so I just drove to the office and went to work. Two hours later, the storm had cleared, and I drove back down to the beach. The waves were clean and breaking pretty well, so I took the longboard out for an hour at lunch. I caught a bunch of waves and there was a family with about a 10-year-old kid next to me. The kid was learning how to surf. It was really cool to see them hooting and hollering him into waves as they caught some of their own. I hope I can have a similar experience with our kids at some point. Anyway, that was the long story of a short surf session.

When you do the snatches are you dropping under the bar or going straight to overhead from the floor?

Should have mentioned, I’m doing power snatches, not full depth. About 8 years ago I tried to learn Olympic lifting and it quickly became apparent that my body was not made for those lifts… I’ll do the power snatches and power cleans, but I’m sure that even those would not pass for legal lifts if a referee was watching.

Comments: I was pretty apprehensive about lifting heavy with this abdominal injury/condition but am going to try it anyway. The pain and swelling still remains but the nausea may have improved some. I’m hoping for the best this week. I was able to make an appointment to see a doctor this Friday, so hopefully he will be able to help.

Session: Felt really strong on squats and bench. Very happy with those sets, especially that last bench set. Accessory was good. I like that format a lot.

Surfing: I was going to paddle out right after I finished lifting but it was storming so I went to the office instead. I ended up waiting until 10:30 and then drove down after the storm cleared (more like between storms). Glad I waited because the size had jumped up. The sets were easily chest high but the wind had picked up more side shore, mixing it up some. Had lots of fun drops and got a nice frontside turn in. Good stuff…

Surfing: Blockade Runner.

Comments: 80 degrees with 90% humidity at 6:30AM. Sauna session incoming…

Session: Everything generally felt good. I added reps to my warmup sets again. Had a few reps in the tank on deads. Maybe 1 more on OHP. Pull-ups were strong and went all the way down to dead hang position. I was using straps for deads and pull-ups because of my hurt finger. Ended up skipping accessory because strength took so long. Did a metcon that was “accessory-ish” anyway.

Surfing: That was, hands down, the best session I’ve had since we moved back here almost a year ago. I surfed at Blockade Runner and rode the potato. The sets were stomach – chest and offered some very workable sections. Almost every wave offered at least one good turn. Some had 2-3. I almost didn’t go to work but decided that was probably a bad idea. Reluctantly came in after one hour and still stood on the beach and kept watching the waves, battling the urge to go back out. I’ll probably wish I had just stayed out but I needed to get some work done.

2 very nice workouts put in Trent.

Good to hear the nausea has improved. Hoping for good things from the Dr for you.

Congrats on the great surf session today. Damn the responsibilities of life! It sounds like you will probably be thinking about that session today for awhile.

Solid week of 1’s. You crushed those numbers this week.

Thanks Shane. Some days are better than others… Yesterday afternoon I was feeling a little crappy and the swelling was pretty bad. Not sure what it is but hoping for good news as well.

Ha ha on the surfing. Yeah, life responsibilities better recognize! :facepunch:t2: :joy: While it is a constant battle of whether you should be cutting out of work to go surf, I am glad to have that battle back in my life. Missed it for way too long…

Thanks on the sessions. I think those went so well due to the added reps in warmup sets and also that I took all weekend off last weekend so I was fresh.

LISS: 1 Mile, 23:00, 200 Cals

Comments: Foot is hurting and very swollen this morning. Don’t recall any particular moment where I injured it. I think I may try a gout medicine first to see if that works. If I don’t feel any relief by this afternoon, I may take Prednisone. If possible, I am hoping to avoid Prednisone as it lowers your immune system (our son is sick right now) and it may cause Pancreatitis (which is possibly what has been bothering me for a few weeks). Definitely between a rock and a hard place here…

LISS: First of all, it was impressive that I could even do LISS this morning. Happy to have gotten 1 mile and tried to keep my HR in the 130’s (Zone 2 for Shane). That’s about it for today unfortunately.

Good job getting anything done feeling like that Trent. Hopefully it’s all behind you soon.

14 KB Swings, 40 lb

Stats: 6 Rounds, 241 Cals, 138 BPM

Comments: Yep, I officially screwed up my foot again. I tried a gout pill yesterday morning and that did nothing. So I took Methylprednisolone after that, which may have helped a little. It isn’t prednisone. That’s for sure. Prednisone worked almost instantly. This stuff doesn’t seem to be working as well. I sent a message to the podiatrist and am awaiting his response. It does feel decent this morning but is still swollen and painful. Going to do an upper body metcon.

Metcon: Came up with this on the fly. Got the blood flowing with minimal impact to my foot. Hopefully a long day of work on my feet treats me well. Have a good day!

Sorry to hear about the foot Trent. :weary:

Hit that Dr up for a twofer tomorrow!

Thanks Shane. Whatever I’ve been taking has been working pretty well. Maybe it just took longer to kick in. Yesterday I could barely put on a shoe and could barely walk. Today I was doing about 60% better with both. Hoping that tomorrow is even better.

Well, my wife has Covid, which means our son has had it since Tuesday as he had similar symptoms (fever, runny nose, cough). She started feeling rough yesterday and has been in bed most of today. My daughter and I are hanging on but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with it too. Vacation Bible School must have been fun but…

Sorry to hear that Trent. Jeez. You can’t catch a break this month. Time to re-roll the dice on this month and try again.

Hope you guys get through it quickly.

Thanks Shane. She volunteered at VBS this week. My son must have had it starting Tuesday, then it hit her a few days later. She was in bed most of yesterday but seems to have turned a corner today. So far, my daughter and I are still OK. Hopefully it stays that way.
