That was going to be my suggestion as well… I’ll make a throwaway and post it up here later tonight and just email me through there
Just as an update I haven’t stopped with dumbbells. I just haven’t logged outta laziness.
It’s going well. I’m just waiting on the bar. And also for my friend to drop the plates off he was gonna sell me.
I hope I can use the equipment before I’m off to college.
So my friend is delivering the plates sunday.
I had second thoughts because I didn’t tell my dad I was buying equipment. So I did. He said I can do it outside and not in the basement since it’s unfinished. So if anyone has any tips on effective training in a big backyard let me know. (I can only tag 2 people)
Did you read Flap’s log this spring? His training was held in his backyard. And there’s really no difference between your yard and your basement…unless you have a rack and a platform in your basement, haha.
Deadlifts, cleans, snatches, RDL’s, rows, presses, BTN presses, push presses, lunges, split squats, front squats, possibly squats, possibly floor presses, curls, tricep extensions…if you have a few square feet of empty floor you can do all those. Also pushups, burpees, jumping jacks, barbell rollouts, bear crawls, land mine stuff…transitioning to outside should only open up your possibilities.
Hey man, I know you’re waiting patiently for me, sorry it’s taking me so long. Been having a heat spell here so work is crazy but I will send the bar early this coming week.
Yeah if your parents are concerned that you’ll make a mess with this it’s probably better that you dont have to worry about smashing up your utility pipes/conduit/wiring doing overhead stuff or simply moving around a long barbell. better ventilation too.
Maybe there are some considerations to be made for how/where you store your equipment too. I assume some place it wont get wet in the rain or too hot to touch in the sun but others would know more
Friend was supposed to deliver plates today like he said. I was waiting around with $50 in my pocket the whole day. He just ghosts Me the whole day. I don’t here a word from him and I tried texting and calling. I’m just about to the fucking lose it.
Over reaction, my man. If he said he’d do it, very understandably frustrating, but you’re not in control of other’s actions. Try again tomorrow - if he flakes again, move on and find another solution. You don’t even have a barbell yet anyways, right?
I don’t have the bar, I am waiting on boilerman. If I don’t get those plates I’m kinda screwed.
Hey man, I totally understand your frustration with everything going on - it’s a tough time to be coming of age for quite a few reasons. Hell, I’m a certified “adult” and am still struggling. If you notice that your attitude or general mindset start to get away from you, try and get some sort of help. The easiest thing to do is find someone that will listen and just have a chat. Sometimes people need more than that and there’s absolutely no shame in it. I realize you’re hoping to use lifting to get through your struggles, but if not, try and have some sort of plan to get your head back under your control and push on. Best of luck man.
I think I am already there. I feel frustrated, angry, and stressed. This incident really did it…
You need a find a way to detach and regain perspective, or your emotions will impare your judgement. That might mean physically removing yourself from the situation. I can’t stress enough how important a life skill this will prove to be.
If that’s the case, try and find help somewhere man. Having a day or two where you’re frustrated is fine and normal, but that’s not like you to let something like that get to you so badly. There’s some decent apps that can link you to someone that’s a lot cheaper and more discreet than in-person stuff.
My best personal hint - disclaimer: may not work if you have a different mindset - is to view every challenge as a chance to solve something. It can be a giant pain in the dick, but it’s very rewarding when you wrangle your circumstances into submission and thrive where you don’t think you should be able to.
@dagill2 is spot on as well.
I second this. We have one at my work that I’ve directed a few colleagues to and even the most cynical have come back singing their praises.
I’ve been fortunate enough to always come to my own rescue about 0.5 milliseconds before I need help, so I have no experience with them. I think they’re fucking brilliant, though, because they get you the help you need without having to think about any sort of stigma around them.
In TL’s case, I would imagine just some mindfulness exercises to regain control would do a world of good.
I have no personal experience with them either, although I do have an appointment booked with one later this week as a bit of an exercise in pro activity.
I’ve typed out a few replies to Tim around finding ways to gain perspective, because that’s been a lifesaver for me a few times, but I can’t find a non-patronising way to say it so I’ll just tell a slightly personal story to illustrate my point. When little man was first born we spent a fair bit of time in a children’s hospital, specifically a neo-natal ward. In that time we saw several of our friends, people we’d become accustomed to seeing, talking to and supporting everyday lose their newborn children. I was still working at the time and something happened there that sent one of my colleagues into a tailspin and all I could think about was “how can this be worrying you when the people I saw this morning just lost their kid”. There’s nothing new or groundbreaking in this story, other than how it has helped me to keep a calm and level persona in my life.
The boiler bar is coming tomorrow. My brother actually ordered a power rack yesterday. All we need are plates. It’s so troublesome. I’m browsing and trying to catch the next rogue restock. That guy who was selling is a lying bozo.
Sorry I’ve been dead for a lil while. I have gotten the boiler bar. A pair of 35s and 45s are coming soon. Me and my brother plan on ordering a pair of 45s every week. As far as programming goes idk. Something with power cleans, front squat, deadlift, rows, ohp.
Ideas? (I still can’t get a squat rack)
Oh yeah and I Dumbbell Bench pressed 100s last week so that was cool.
Your program will be dictated by your goals. I forget what your long term goal is, I’m afraid.
Yeqh man what are your goals?
Seems like you’ll be limited by weight, you might want to try and grab a few 5 and 10 lb sets of plates. Or you can just bust out a shitload of reps.
I haven’t really run many programs tbh. I’d say PCs GMM but that’s the only thing that I can think of. It’d be hard to do without the ability to load 5-10-20 lbs at a time tho.
So in conclusion, I have no idea lol.
