If you donā€™t like fishy taste, then Season is good. I buy this brand most often because itā€™s a good deal at Costco and often on sale on top of that.

Otherwise Wild Planet is great. Crown Prince is similar. I canā€™t remember if Iā€™ve tried any other brands.

@T3hPwnisher you said that if you were to run Super Squats you would use fairlife milk? Is there something bad in regular whole milk?

Itā€™s just I have 2 options,
Use doordash for fairlife whole milk or just walk to the corner store and get regular whole milk. I do intend on starting the diet next weekend.

Polar is my favourite brand. Itā€™s available at Walmart

IIRC, I mentioned the sugar content in a typical gallon of milk was enough to make me think carefully about OGAD, even during Super Squats. Pwn noted that Fairlife milk was a low-sugar option, and some others mentioned additonal lactose-free (or at least lower sugar) milk options.

But then again, Iā€™m 43.

At your age, I was downing a gallon a day (campus meal plan for the win!) and not lifting like you are, nevermind like where youā€™re headed with Super Squats.

@SvenG Summed it up well. I was saying, I, as a 36 year old athlete that has trained for 22 years and has a genetic predisposition to elevated cholesterol levels, would drink Fairlife skim if I were to do a gallon of milk a day. I wouldnā€™t do whole milk in any capacity. Thatā€™s because Iā€™m VERY particular about my animal fat sources. If I were to do whole milk, itā€™d be grassfed, and ideally raw, and that just gets complicated.

But you REALLY donā€™t want to start thinking ā€œbad foodā€ or ā€œgood foodā€ here @tlgains. There is food that supports your goals and food that doesnā€™t. ā€œGoodā€ and ā€œbadā€ is the start of disordered eating and health anxiety. Everything has a time and a place.

When I ran the program at your age, I used 2%, because thatā€™s what our dinning hall had. I drank as much as I could at each meal, and supplemented with some grocery store runs.

I know this is a snowflake question but Iā€™m only asking since youā€™re built to deadlift as well. Youā€™ve ran this program with flat shoes correct?

I did. Weightlifting shoes werenā€™t really popular/widely available at the time.

And just toss on what I would normally squat for ten regardless of the conditions?
Just like it says in the book, simple like that, regardless of my fears of starting too heavy which makes no sense because itā€™s supposed to be hard?

Got it! I will lock that in my head and just keep on pushing this 5/3/1 template for the rest of this week and the next.

Why wear shoes??

Barefoot or deadlift slippers are the best!

I had no idea what I could squat for 10 when I first did it, so I just picked A weight, did that for 20, added more weight next time and eventually got to the point where I could only do 5lb jumps.

Iā€™d really get that fear sorted out. That should be something you feel at the middle of the program: not before day one.

The fear comes from not knowing a weight to pick but I could just pick based off of the last 5/3/1 PR Set Iā€™ll do next week.

Are you, by chance, confusing fear with anxiety? Otherwise, Iā€™d be very alarmed by this response my dude.

Do you have to Uber to the gym? How far is it?

You mention a student loan refund? As a fellow college student, Iā€™d strongly advise not to borrow money that you will be paying back + interest if you donā€™t have to. If the gym isā€¦3 miles or less away, walking/running is free! If itā€™s 3-5 miles away, a bike would probably be cheaper in the long run than daily Ubers. If itā€™s over 5 mi, I suppose things can get a little tricky.

Look at other options besides Uber though. A single-use ride thatā€™s personalized for you might be the most expensive way to travel (as far as public transportation goes). I know in my town, thereā€™s a bus (just a single bus, haha, not a whole bus system) that if you give them 24 hours notice when scheduling rides, it only ends up being like $2/day. Most poorer people/families, if theyā€™re on consistent schedules, go that route. Youā€™re in a bigger town than me so I bet thereā€™s cheaper options than Ubers.

Is the response alarming because I wonā€™t know if Iā€™m capable of something until I tried and my thought process is similar to taking the easy way out which wonā€™t get results?

For some reason the school gym building is getting renovated this semester. Thereā€™s supposed to be some bus that takes students to a ymca but I havenā€™t seen any information about it. Apparently a sign up sheet is supposed to be sent out. The gym is also a 20 minute car ride away.

Itā€™s alarming because fear is not what I would consider an appropriate response to not knowing what weight to use for a lifting program.
