Heres the deal i am the biggest most muscular guy at my work and every one knows i lift.So of course i get challenged once in a while which is fine but its never at the gym.A couple guys at my work stared arm wrestling and it wasnt long before i got pulled into it.
Now im 6’5",215 lbs and stronger than 99% percent of average people. But i lost to a guy who doesnt lift at all.So how is arm wrestling so much different than lifting weights,Aside from the obvious.I know for a fact this guy isnt nearly as strong as me but he still beat me.
So what is the secret to getting better at it.Or is it just one of those things youre either good at or not.

I guess it could be leverage or something like that, hand placement or whatever, but all I know is I feel your pain because I’m a lot stronger than most I go up against and I don’t win very often. Maybe because I have neandrathal arms
you don’t train that movement pattern and the muscle that needs to be trained for that.
i was researching this my self not so long ago and found that one of the strongest arm wrestlers in the world never lifted weights, e got his strength with “man power” … what means, he just wrestled a lot for a long time.
what i found, you need strong wrists, very strong fingers, strong biceps (to drag your proponents hand closer to your body) and there are some technique in it too. like the hook for example.
you also need strong joints, chest, core and shoulders. there is even some leg drive in it…
as someone said, this topic was covered pretty well not so long ago.

They’ve got some good tutorials on different moves.
There is actually a lot of technique involved in arm wrestling, and in fact the term “arm” wrestling isn’t a very accurate description. No good arm wrestlers actually wrestle using their biceps like a lot of people do.
If this other individual learned some actual arm wrestling techniques, he would be able to over power you due to superior leverage and use of much larger stronger muscles. He may also just have really strong wrists/forearms which is key to success in arm wrestling.

Thanks for the video.Im gonna start practicing these thing and start ripping guys arms off.Check out this implement i made for training my wrists.5 lb plate held about middle of tape.i lift it up and down like swinging a hammer.
The big guy Magnus was wrestling “megaman” was the big warrior in the beginning of the movie Troy (with Brad Pitt) who got killed real quick, just thought I would throw that in.
He seems to lose a lot, was beaten by a sumo in Pride fighting too.
I have never lost an arm wrestling match to anyone, but don’t do it that often. I usually like the throw my weight into it as much as possible. Also having big hands-which i do- helps a lot. Don’t try and do all the fancy top rolls just be quick and powerful and try to hook its the most simple and effective.
