Any Arm Wrestlers?

Since I only compete in powerlifting about once every six or so months and I don’t play football anymore, I was thinking about giving arm wrestling a shot. Any idea of how to get into it?

I can’t help, but am curious if anyone knows what it takes to make a good arm wrestler.

I mean I think I’m rather strong, but indeed my wrists are small, though I think the rest of my arm is good enough…yet when I do arm wrestle (it’s been a while…I guess last time would have been while at a bar with friends or something) I always lose…or have more trouble winning than a 250lb guy should have.

great movie…

johm b has a web site where he answers questions. i’d watch the movie then contact him… good luck.- YouTube

My understanding is that it is mostly technique. If you are trying to force someone else’s hand down you are doing it wrong. You are supposed to pull their hand into you.

I lost to my Dad the other day who weighs as much as I do… except he is 9 inches taller. I felt like a bitch.

Damn auto mechanics…

hope this link is eazier to get to the movie. movie is 72:12. great movie.

This clip should be mandatory in every arm wrestling thread:

Nathan Jones sustained a spiral fracture of the forearm.

Reminds me of that scene in The Fly.

I grew up in a small motorcycle shop. That being said, I can confirm mechanics rock at arm wrestling. They’ll make larger men and young bucks feel foolish for sure.

I’m good at it

Either do it, or don’t. NEVER get into a challenge match at a bar or elsewhere if you are untrained, I’ve learned my lesson with these…even if you “win”, it can fuck up your training for weeks.

The skill-set required to win is interesting. I’ve beaten guys who can literally double my bench and squat, and have had my ass handed to me by 140 lb Japanese dudes.

Thanks for reminding me as to why I haven’t arm wrestled in a while.

The last time I did was me and another Canadian and for a few days later my forearm hurt…like deep inside, like the bone was warped. I mentioned to the buddy when we were in the gym a day or two later and he said “Yeah, me too! Weird” Then it dawned on us that it must’ve been from th drunken arm wrestling a few days before.

Step 1 drive an 18 wheeler
Step 2 get a baseball cap
Step 3 turn said cap backwards and dominate

Anyone for a rousing round of thumb wrasslin’?

I wouldn’t do it. Arm wrestling is a very injury prone activity in my experience. And I’m not just talking about hurting your own bicep or shoulder or tendon or whatever; you could injure your opponent too, which would suck since it’s probably not someone you dislike.

If you do get into it though, keep in mind, arm wrestling is a game of wits. There are many strategies to employ and attacks and defenses to use based on the strengths and weaknesses of yourself and your opponent. That sounds hilarious to say about arm wrestling (and it is), but for real, it’s true.

One of my good friends in high school was an exact match for me at arm wrestling. We arm wrestled several times and tried all kinds of different things, but we always ended up in a draw. The last time we ever arm wrestled, we took our grip, and another guy counted down and called go… and neither of us applied any pressure at all. We just sat there laughing.
