So let me get this straight. You are 17 something, have/had an ex-pro olympic weightlifter as coach, been training for 1 year, and you are asking how to get your squat up?
Well,…
Fuck the weightlifter did you see the part where he said Ray Williams was coaching him too???

Haha nice I wish I started out in the same place you did, especially when you have teachers telling you not to squat deep because it will cause injuries to your knees or deadlift too much because you will mess up your back. I’ve been training to be strong & explosive for the last year but now I want to try something different now to mix things up and try bodybuilding. I’ve started ‘cutting’ in the last 6 weeks because I didn’t pay too much attention to diet so I’m carrying a fair bit of extra flab. I will still incorporate explosive & strength work because I love simply love lifting heavy shit lol. What are you goals right now? Any numbers you’d want to hit on your big lifts by the end of this year?
wow haha i bet that annoyed you though and tbh i was quite lucky when i started i had ray williams as a coach an ex gold medallist in the commenwealth games in weightlifting , ah go for it man good luck , eveybody loves lifting heavy its amazing,
urm obviously lift my squat and i really really wanna pull 250kg by my 18th which is 2 months away what about you ?
Damn you know some awesome people haha. Thanks brother good luck to you to! Strength goals would be to power clean & push press 120kg, Front squat 180kg by the end of the year and one day back squat 220kg. 250kg would be awesome, whats your deadlift max now?

Don’t be an idiot. I wish I had someone like that showing me how to properly squat when I started. You don’t know how lucky you are. Also, nobody needs the fancy squat variations. The strongest people on this planet only used the standard variation - be it high-bar squat or low-bar squat - to get strong.

sorry mate but im not really gonna listen if you say im an idiot but i understand what you mean yes he taught me how to squat and went from 90kg to 170kg in just over a year but he now runs a business so he can no longer coach me and a few others so i wanted other opinions off people who are really strong hence why i joined here and the reason i want to try other types of squats is because my squat (high bar) has stalled
Hey man, 90 kg to 170 kg in one year is amazing progress. If your other lifts are progressing more quickly, there’s still no need to worry too much. Keep your programming simple and don’t give too much thought to special methods until you reach a true plateau. It sounds more as though your progress has simply slowed down, which isn’t surprising considering the massive gains you’ve made in the last year.
Will I reach my goals? The PC&PP may be possible but the front squat is debatable. Tbh it doesn’t really matter whether I get it or not by the end of the year, at least I know I tried my best to get that goal and I was still a stronger person than I was the day before :). Thanks man you’re motivating me aswell, mostly because someone younger than me may possibly have more beast potential than I do and I’ll have to work harder so you don’t beat me haha. Good luck on your goals brother and keep me updated!

thanks buddy , i know well alittle over a year but it was mainly form adjustment which caused it , they are ive thought about it and just gonna keep doing a variation of 5-3-1 as that works for me in terms of size and strength , thanks for the reassurance i just wanted to see what others were doing tbh
