I see the speed. Also looks like you’re carrying the shot on your neck higher than me. Very smooth.
I throw at Alabama A&M. They just had their homecoming yesterday and they trash the Field area of the track. Goin outback to throw right now.

I got kicked out of the only university in town. I hardly did more than walk onto the field with my hammer, and the head coach comes running over yelling “You can’t throw that here!” They have a new throws coach now a 65+m hammer thrower himself, so maybe I’ll try it again.

A W E S O M E thread!!! Love the videos! Good luck in your quest; will check-in from time-to-time to see how things are going. Again, A w e s o m e!!![/quote]
Thanks for dropping in. It keeps me motivated to know people are watching.
This week the workouts are short and sweet, barely more than warmups. Maximum weights are at 65% of 1rm.
10/13
Snatch: 53/3, 63/3, (68/3)2
Squats: 77/3, (91/3)2
Bench: 55/5, (65/5)2
Snatch High Pulls: (80/5)2
Pullups: BW/5,5,4
Time: 30 min
Started off a little shakey, snatches were not so good the first couple sets. By the time I got to high pulls I got it straightened out.
Something is far better than nothing. Being consistant is the important factor. Some times the body beats the mind and then it’s a little day.
You look very smooth and fluid in your throw. Stay strong, throw far, lift heavy and eat lots!
Thanks streamline, your enthusiasm is contagious.
Well, last Friday’s meeting got postponed until today, so today I talked and listened instead of lifting. Back to it tomorrow.
Great thread Carl. I used to train with a guy that competes in the American Masters. He was still setting records as late as 1998. As I have gotten older I wish I had continued with Oly work.
I might live many of those dreams thru your thread.
Thanks j_willy, How much was that guy lifting? I was unaware that you used to do o-lifting. How serious were you about it?
Continuing with the recovery week, these always seem harder at first than they are supposed to. For one, I am worn out from the high volume of the previous week, whether I feel it or not, and two, the weights are light, damn it, they are supposed to be real easy. They are, but not as much as they should be because I’m still recovering. Anyway:
10/15
Cleans: 62.5/3, 75/3, (81/3)2
Jerks: 62.5/3, 75/3, (81/3)2
Front squats: 75/5, (88/5)2
Presses: 45/5, (52.5/5)2
Cleans dead lifts: (106/5)2
Bent rows: (75/5)3
Time: 39 min
My upper back is feeling all the pull ups and rows. I think they will help with position in the first pull keeping my chest high.

Carl, I never got to competition phase. I was tipping scale at 230 or so and only snatching 205 and 275 C&J. Got hurt as bouncer in a bar and just fell out of the training habit.
My “coach” had these masters records in 50-54 age group. he was competing in 91 kg class snatch 110kg and total of 255kg. I really liked the work a lot. There is a lifting club about an hour from my home. If it were closer I’d be there in a minute!
Those are pretty decent weights, especially for a bigger guy (body weight snatch is harder if you are bigger.) Ever think of getting back into it? And for the “coach”, that’s pretty much the level I’m trying to reach.
Edit: I guess I should read posts more carefully. You already answered my question.
10/16
Snatch: 53/3, 63/3, (68/3)2
Squats: 77/3, (91/3)2
Bench: 55/5, (65/5)2
Snatch Dead Lifts: (90/5)2
Pullups: BW/5,5,5
Time: 28 min
Looking better–these felt light they way they should. Was hitting real good positions in the deadlifts.
I am definitely recovered from the heavy volume week now. The weights flew up today.
10/17
Clean and Jerk: 62.5/3, 75/3, (81/3)2
Front squats: 75/5, (88/5)2
Presses: 45/5, (52.5/5)2
Cleans High Pulls: (95/5)2
Bent rows: (77.5/5)3
Time: 35 min
Can’t wait for next week when the heavy volume week and recovery week are supposed to pay off with new rep maxes. I will be shooting for:
Snatch: 95/3 - 97.5/3
Clean and Jerk: 107.5/3 - 110/3
Back Squats: 122.5/5 - 125/5
Front Squats: 117.5/5 - 120/5
Bench: 87.5/5 - 90/5
Press: 67.5/5 - 70/5
Curious proximity of your front squat and back squat numbers, but is it significant? Is it more than the effect of high-bar squatting? Training looks great, thanks for the high-quality vids.
Really enjoy reading your thread. All the O lifts and throwing. Good luck making the new PRs.

Thanks and you’re welcome. I think the proximity has to do with relatively weak legs and a relatively strong core. Its one of the reasons I’m better at OL and throwing than powerlifting.

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoy it. By the way, its mostly your fault I started posting here, your “everyone’s workouts” thread got me started. Thanks for that too. Its helping me keep focused.
New pr in shot, 15.90
Almost another one, 15.99, I just didn’t stay in the ring.
~48m in discus.
Great vids and effort Carl
