Throwing Heavy Stuff Far

1/9

Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 90/2, 100/1, 105/1, (110/1)4
Push Presses: 50/5, 60/5, (67.5/5)3
Clean High Pulls: (130/3)3
Split Squats: 50/6, 60/6, 70/6 (weight in pounds)

Time: ~50 min.

Not too bad after 4 hours of sleep. The wife needed to be at the airport at 4:30 to visit her 95 year old grandmotherfor likely the last time.

Here’s a little food for thought Carl.

There are times after training hard that I failed to get the results I expected. I ended up in my head, doing more damage than good.

This is when I sit and breath for a couple hours. Clears my head and lets me focus clearly again.

Keep up the great work. Keep your head clear and your form solid. Strength + Form = Art

Snatch: 55/2, 66/2, 77/2, 84/1, 90/1, (95/1)4
Squats: (116/3)6
Bench: 50/5, 62/5, (72/5)3
Snatch High Pull: (110/3)3

Time: ~50 min.

I missed four attempts in the snatch at 95. Didn’t have a very strong pull today. Good thing is I remembered something one of the lifters told me at the meet, how I’m pulling the bar off my thighs too soon.

Tried waiting a fraction of a second longer on the last two attempts with the result that I lost one snatch behind me (very rare) and got the last without the usual forward placement.[/quote]

Sounds like you are not finishing the first pull on your heavier attempts. We have a few lifters in our gym that have the same problem. You have to really focus on fully finishing the first pull and get the knees back out of the way before starting the second pull. In other words, you’re rushing into the second pull. Good luck. I compete in the TX state meet next Sat, then start prep for the Masters Nationals myself.

streamline, I understand what you are saying. and there is a bit of that going on. I think I’ve got it under control now.

olylifter106, good luck at your meet. What are you planning on for your attempts?

Looking back at my videos, I think the main problem is letting my heels come up too soon. It puts me in second pull mode before the first pull is finished.

Been very busy with the wife in Ohio, so I’m getting a bit behind in the log entries. Both Monday and Tuesday felt off strength and technique-wise.

12/12
Snatch: 55/2, 66/2, 77/2, 88/1, 95/1, (100/1)8
Squat: (116/2)6
Bench: 52/5, 62/5, 72.5/5, (77.5/5)4
Snatch High Pulls: (100/3)4

Missed 2nd, 3rd, and 5th snatch attempts, finally got some semblance of consistency down and nailed the last three.

12/13
Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 90/2, 100/1, 110/1, (115/1, 120/1, 125/1)2
Clean High Pulls: (125/3)4
Push Presses: 50/5, 60/5, 67.5/5. (70/5)3
Split Squats: (60lbs/6)2

All jerks from 120 up were highly questionable. Missed the last clean at 125, one of those where you get so far out of position that you don’t even try to get under it. I ran out of time so cut a set each from push presses and split squats. My first session with split squats left my legs sore in strange places, so I backed off on the weight a bit. They seem to be doing fine today.

12/15

Snatch: 55/2, 66/2, 77/2, 88/1, (95/1, 100/1 102.5/1)2
Squats: (116/4)6
Bench: 52.5/5, 62.5/5, 72.5/52, 75/5, (77.5/5)4
Snatch High Pulls: (110/3)4

Missed second 95kg snatch behind, missed both 102.5s in front, but the second 100kg snatch looked pretty good. Pulling strength is still off. The squats are starting to get hard. The last rep wasn’t exactly a grinder, but it didn’t go up very fast either.

The better looking 100kg snatch from yesterday.

No lifting today, I tweaked a muscle in my inner thigh during my last snatch attempt yesterday. Lifting is possible but with some discomfort. Rest seems more important than work.

Well, I ended up taking 85 (make), 90 (miss, hit groin), 92 (miss PR and tweaked left shoulder coming up with it) in snatch. Clean & Jerk went 3 for 3 with 106, 112, 116 (1 kg PR!!). Need to work on overhead strength, but planning on opening with 87 and 110 at National Masters in April.

Nice lifting! I think I’ve gone 3 for 3 in clean and jerk only once in my life. I’ve been waiting for someone to post the results on goheavy, but none yet.

Yeah, all I know are how the lifters from my gym did. I finished with 201 in the 85 kg 35-39 class. Travis Clark finished with 135 snatch and 170 c & j and 305 total, Kendall Bass in her first ever meet (and only having been lifting for about 3.5 months) lifted 85 kg and 106 kg for a 191 total.

Gary Deal lifted 93 snatch and 114 C & J in in the superheavy class at 69 yrs old. That’s all I have. I watched Caleb Ward clean and jerk 191, then clean 200, but miss the jerk (he’s 18 yrs old in the super class!!). Hopefully someone will upload the results.

Gary Deal…wow, have not heard that name in a long time, how did he look, hope he is well, was pretty inspirational in his time.

He is doing okay, but he pulled a quad power cleaning 121 kg on his third attempt. Not sure how he is holding up with that, but I’m sure he’ll make a come back from it.

Getting a bit behind on this log. Here’s the last three sessions.

Been working with a slower 1st pull, trying to keep better positions and timing. Yesterday’s snatches seem to have benefited.

Last set of snatches from Thursday. 1st not so good, second one better.

Carl not a killer weight but the path of the second looks very nice, it finishes almost exactly over where it started.

Question how is your narrow grip (shoulder width or narrower) power snatch compared to your current regular power snatch.

please don’t say they are comparable …

I’m pretty sure I don’t know WHAT your doing CarlD, but it’s dam fun to watch!!! Thanks for the videos (the non-youtube ones), and good luck to you. Gonna go look for some more cool stuff to watch…

GMH, I’ve never done a close grip snatch, I’m sure it would be quite a bit less than my regular power snatch. My guess would be in the 70-80 kg range, as opposed to 90-95 for wide grip.

zildjianman, I’m pretty sure I don’t know what I’m doing either, but its a lot of fun.

Catch up on the log:

1/23

Clean High Pulls: (120/3)2
Only one more rep on each set of squats compared to last week, but they felt twice as hard. They left me sore all weekend.

1/24

Threw shot and hammer ~30 throws each. Not very hard, just trying for better balance and positions.

102.5kg snatch.
