Throwing Heavy Stuff Far

Been fighting off a cold, so all I did the last three days was move snow from one place to another and rest. The official word is 42" of snow in the last 10 days. Got into the weightroom today.

12/27

Power snatch + hang snatch: 50, 60, 70, 75, 80, 85, 87.5, 90
Power clean + hang clean + jerk: 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 105, 110

The went home and took a nap, even without the kitten’s help.

42" of snow…DAMN I’m glad I live on the coast. Good lifitng all the same.

Carl, do you have to make your 84kg limit for this Jan comp to qualify for the nats ?

Impressive as always. I will be thinking powerful thoughts for you this coming year. I have zero doubt you will accomplish your goal. Stay strong and keep a solid form.

J_willy, I took advantage of it and went cross country skiing yesterday. Just walked across the street and strapped then on and went.

Terry, the nationals don’t have qualifying totals, so it doesn’t matter what weight class I lift in. The only requirement is that you have lifted in a sanctioned meet within the last three years. My last competition was four and a half years ago, so this is my qualifying meet.

Streamline, thanks for the complement and the vote of confidence. You are an incredible inspiration.

12/29

Snatch: 50/2, 60/2, 70/2, 80/2, 85/2, 90/2, 95/1, 100/1, 102.5/1, 105/1
Snatch High Pulls: (115/1)3
Squats: 100/1, 110/1, 120/1, 130/1, 140/1

Still fighting off the cold. Not feeling 100%, but these weights went up easy enough. The 105 snatch is my planned opener for Saturday’s contest.

The 105 snatch.

Edit, here’s a youtube link, since it doesn’t seem to be working here.

Hope you’re feeling better Carl. Damn 42", that’s even more than we’ve had here in W. Michigan, I’m so sick of shoveling already.

Carl was wondering if you were going to cut weight for the Jan comp ??

somethings in life I do not understand, and the internet is one…

Terry, I’m not planning to cut weight, but the way this cold is going, I might get down to 85kg by default. 86.7 as of this morning.

dz, I hear you on the snow. We had finally cleaned up from the last dump, then got another foot or so on Christmas. I moved enough to get the cars in and out. The rest is waiting for a week of 80 degree temperatures.

The second high pull with 115kg. It went higher than some of my successful snatches, so its just a matter of timing and placement.

Edit: Again a youtube link until it shows up here.

12/30

Clean and Jerk: 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 115, 120, 125
Clean High Pulls: (135/1)3

Felt a little stronger today ~95% instead of yesterdays ~92% Pulls all went fairly high.

Thursday I’ll work up to a 80-85% single in both snatch and clean and jerk.

Hope we get to see a youtube of that 125 C&J. Not because I don’t believe it - I just like to watch someone lift that much weight over their head.

Carl thanks for putting the camera on the side.

The heavier weight seems to keep your pull straighter, good second pull but with the heavier weight, does not pop it in front.

You seem to get in front when you come up, not when you sit into the hole.

Used to happen to me, but with much less weight.

the 115 pull is scary. Your second pull is very strong.

Are you planning on coming down to OZ for world masters games in October, the Master Ol champs, are part of it, and you can monster all the local throwers as well ???

Skidmark, I didn’t take video today. The wrestling team was swarming around the weightroom today and the camera would have been in the way. Maybe there will be a 136kg c&j video from this Saturday.

Terry, it all starts with the first pull where my hips come up faster than my shoulders at the start. This causes the bar to hit my hips too hard which loops the bar out front. Sometimes I can minimize the effect and get the weight closer to the right position in the catch, but on most successful attempts, the bar is still too far forward after I catch it. This misposition gets amplified as I stand up. Heavier weights react less to the bump with the hips than lighter weights. Conclusion: I need stronger quads.

I hadn’t thought of going to OZ for the world masters games. I sounds like it would be a blast. However, tornados are unheard of in this part of the country. Have they figured out another way to get there yet?

Carl agree on the quads, I came to same conclusion for my own problem way too late (like 25 years…)

OZ …Tornados… the only thing missing is the shoes…

Well. I’m off for Washington this morning. Thank you everyone for your good wishes.
