I don’t think anyone has any business drinking any GOMAD tbh. There are better ways, even for those that can tolerate it. Just not good for digestion and long term overall general health and that should come first over anything else, even the precious gaaiinnzzzzz! and fuck Wendler and his baby wipes!
You mention “long term overall health”, but the gallon of milk a day approach is not a long term approach at all.
I did it for 6 weeks in college while following 20 rep squats and managed not to die.
What is your alternative that is as economical…and protein/calorie dense?

Whole milk is not very protein dense. You only get 128 grams along with a whole lot of calories. If protein density is a goal, something like a pound of chicken breast is more economical and doesn’t come with all the extra calories.
I never realized so many people had problems with milk lol. I guess I have an iron stomach. I drink between a half gallon and a gallon of milk everyday without even trying. I just like milk. I’ve drank it straight out of the jug like that for like as long as I can remember. Not all of it is just straight drinking. I make protein shakes with it and have cereal and stuff, but between all that I go through a pretty massive quantity of milk. I used to eat a pint of ice cream almost every day in addition to that lol. I don’t do that anymore, but I never had digestion problems. Guess I shoulda been a competitive milk drinker.

I donâ??t get peoples problem with what Ripptoe is saying.
Do the big basic lifts and get strong.
Throw in some Assistance work to make you bigger & stronger.
Donâ??t over emphasise the Assistance over the Main Lifts.
This is just weight training standards across the board. No person in the weight room should be drifting to far from this kind of thinking if there goal is to be bigger and stronger.
I actually just got Practical Programming and Starting Strength in the mail yesterday. Really looking to pick apart the basic lifts. I’ve been “active” most of my adult life but never really put too much time into weight lifting or serious strength training until recently. I am several weeks into an “on-ramp” program to begin CrossFit training on Saturdays (yes, I know…) and want to be sure that my fundamental lifts and movements are tight. So far, just from breezing through the books, looks like there’s a tremendous amount of detail and instruction. Plus, the guy came highly recommended.

I like his principles when it comes to training. Obviously, his work isn’t for everyone. I had an ex-girlfriend that I put on starting strength and I enjoyed the results haha.

Well since you threw Rip, Wendler and a lot of pretty jacked BB’s and football players under the bus (with their wipes).

The alternative doesn’t matter. The point is, milk fucks up your digestion (for a lot of people). For such people, that’s end game, period. And I’m not sure $6 gallon per day milk is cheaper than a home made shake. At literally $6 per day that’s $180 per month. A 5lb tub of protein that lasts me 6 weeks is $100. Either way, my point is, people like me can’t have milk. I have one glass, I can’t poop the next day, simple. If you don’t have your health what do you have???
So it did not work for you…so anybody else that tries it is foolish?
You are allergic to peanuts…so anybody else that tries it is foolish?
You cannot eat shellfish…so anybody else that has a crab salad is foolish?

Different strokes for different folks.
Dude, it’s just my opinion regarding GOMAD; you have yours. Don’t know why you’re getting your knickers tied in a knot over it. It’s also the advice of a trainer I’ve had that’s also educated in holistic health (think even Poliquin as well for that matter).

No offense take at all bro…it’s cool, sometimes my sarcasm does not translate on the interwebz.
I have a question for those of you who don’t like Rip or SS. For someone who cannot bench their bodyweight, or squat it for that matter (more common than you think), and is interested in bodybuilding, would you put them on a body part type split initially or more of a whole body plan geared towards strength initially?

IRONICALLY, this part of your message directly contradicts the message of Ripp’s article.
Interesting…
I don’t believe he discussed nutrition in the article?
Did I miss it.
Rip’s views on nutrition do not correlate with his views on weightlifting, unless I am mistaken.
Which I often am.
No he did not. But in general, I think Ripp needs to acknowledge exactly what you said “different strokes for different folks.” His tone has become more and more dogmatic these days.

Am I making any sense? lol
Totally…in his videos he has a curmugone look to him.
He is old school and not likely to change…but if you want to learn how to deadlift/squat/clean correctly there is nobody better,.

There are basic full body routines that just seem more balanced to me than the 3 exercise workout types. If your goal is BB, then doing direct arm work, hamstring work from the beginning can’t possibly hurt. Doesn’t have to be an assault on the muscle…just a couple sets of bicep curls on top of rows and chin ups/pull ups to finish off…or seated hamstring curls…nothing complicated. I say this because I used to believe the “compound only” and “you don’t need to train arms directly” stuff and my arms have suffered; chest/back got stronger/bigger though.

That really nails it. He provides “rule of thumb” blue collar, common sense advice and I’ve noticed that the people really feeling the dislike want to argue by exception. Yes, considering the 100’s of thousands of training athletes across a wide range of sports you can come up with anecdotal examples of this champ or that pro doing the exact opposite of Ripptoe.
It’s like roulette–the players who win the most bet on either the big spread (i.e. Red & Black) but there’s always that Vegas miracle guy who won a fortune putting it all on 00 Green.
But for most people, most of the time what schools is what is going to carry them through to the point of high intermediate where maybe there’s more room for secondary lifts. In my opinion too many guys want to throw the proven 5x5 out 'cause the ELITE level lifting programs look sexy on paper.
Plus; he was dead on in the article. Muscle confusion is BS. Those fibers only know if they are stretching and contracting against resistance. That’s it, that’s all they do, not take Algebra test. They don’t get confused they just do what they do: stretch and contract.
