The End of Crossfit?

Interesting and entertaining article of a formerly affiliated Crossfit coach giving his reasons for ditching his affiliation:

John Sheaffer, owner of what was formerly Crossfit Greyskull (pic above), gives his reasons for ending his affiliations w/ Crossfit. I guess Mark Rippetoe has severed ties as well. He was doing their barbell certifications course before.

I’m not going to give my comments on the matter as I really don’t give a shit but its a good rant.

John Sheaffer before getting big and strong.

Crossfit will come and go, just like many other things will.

Fuck crossfit.

This is why GymJones also quit their affiliation. But they did it years ago.

Fixed and I agree.

“A decent litmus would be if you are offended by this, you probably suck, and if you are nodding your head and/or laughing then you probably donâ??t”

This can be applied to so much in this industry…

It’s not going away any time soon. Let’s face it, for some people poorly done crossfit has made them fitter than they’ve ever been. Some get a sense of community out of it that is missing in many gyms. Quality control is a big issue everywhere. Well maybe not everywhere (insert Chinese pet food joke here), but at least the places that care.

Has anyone in this thread actually ever tried crossfit?? I think its a fun change of pace for my cardio days… and hell, the women there are all crazy hot… most of them atleast…mostly…

I’d like to work out with that guy. His “yard” looks freakin awesome.

The article explains a lot, and that his disagreement is not with Crossfit as a system, but with the way it is currently licensed and mainstreamed.

Not the sort of thing that heralds the end of a system.

I think Crossfit is an ideal training system for women, and lo and behold women do seem to get the best results from it.

They just need to change the name to Prissfit or something, and get more women to see how valuable it could be for them (and of course get the men out of there and into a real gym).

Also, women would be much more reasonable about the whole thing, and wouldn’t go swinging their dicks in everyone’s face claiming Pirssfit was the BEST training system EVER, of ALL time and everything else sucks and its superior for every sport or physical job PERIOD.

No, the only PERIODS they would be having is… well you see where I’m going with this…

“The fat people lose a few pounds and inches, the weak males that canâ??t press 75lb become weak males that canâ??t press 100lb.”

I lol’d

As an affiliate, I understand the issue. In my area there are SEVERAL affiliates besides mine, I’ve visited a few and consequently NONE of the other affiliates have the knowledge and skills that I require at my place. I’ve had several people defect from these other affiliates and these people are amazed at how much better and injury free they are when they come to us.

I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I’ve been barbell training for about 15 years along with studying (intensely) programming and technique. I like crossfit as a whole, but affiliates vary a lot in quality. I just take care of my own gym and let the not-so-good ones die their death. People realize when they are getting something good.

I tried a couple sessions at a new local CrossFit to see what the big deal was. While I won’t be joining, they did help me with a few things, such as deadlift form. I could never wrap my head around how to start the movement before, so thanks to them for that. They do have heavy lifting days as well, but everything they’re doing I can do for myself at my normal gym. To me $200 for the first month and $150 every month afterwards is too much for working out in a group setting, which is really the only thing missing from my current training.

It does seem like they have their act together, much more so than the other affiliate in the area.

I charge 115/mo unlimited and we do not do group setting stuff. It isn’t 1 on 1 and I’m not babysitting you, but I’m coaching, I liken it to sports training. Your football coaches weren’t helping you alone, but you still get individual help. At my place the newer people get more help and the people who have been with me a while do their workout and I help them as needed. It works really well.

$115 A MONTH? Holy shit, are there fluffing stations in the locker room? Because that is fucking expensive as hell just on the membership. I could belong to two gyms for that, one with a pool and indoor track in the rich neighborhood.

The one near me is $180 per month for unlimited access. The $150 only allows 12 visits per month.

Holy fucking shit expensive batman. WOW!

I had no idea…

Price seems to be a big turnoff for many. There’s a Crossfit gym literally three blocks away from my house. I thought about going there in the past but not for these prices:
