My first venture into the world of civilian surgery was a bit of a surprize. I’d envisioned going in, putting my hand on the table, getting a local, having the procedure done and going home. No, had to go through the whole nine yards. Put on the gown, IV, wheeled to the operating room, some real good stuff to relax me, operation, recovery room. Happy pill after the operation.
Doc says everything went fine. Wife brought me home, and I was out til real early this morning. Woke up and did the Dagwood raid on the frig. I was hungry. No pain to speak of in the thumb but they gave me a RX just in case. Vital statistics:
BW: 233 (no food or water for 8 hours prior)
BP: 118/71
PULSE: 62
EKG: Heart’s working fine
Question of the day. With all the hot little nurses running around in skin tight scrubs why did I get 2 middle age old frumpy ones. My ego moment. “Well, we work out don’t we?” Do they teach medical people to talk in the plural? Figure on trying to do squats tomorrow morning. Think I’ll be able to bench, too. Not sure on pulling movements using both hands.[/quote]
Straps for pulling, maybe, until the thumb heals? Glad things went smoothly for you.

First I hope you heal/recover well.
Your BP and Heart rate are excellent!
I actually did get a local anesthetic when I had the operation on my thumb - I tried to push it into a table saw, and took a decent chunk out of the middle.
The efficacy of the surgery was great- maybe 3 or 4 hours door to door the lack of happy pills after not so much. It hurt like hell
as soon as the local wore off. Like cut it off hurt.
It hurt quite a bit for a few days. I had a much larger turban style bandage on for a few days. I think I went back to work the next day- the gym a few days later.
I think I went to a gym with a power squat machine- so I used that.
I remember doing dips- and some stuff with dumb bells and straps
then I think I eventually could do more with straps.
the real issue is how they set the thumb bent away from the palm , which made lots of thing difficult.
didn’t mean to write a book, but good luck in your recovery.

Thumb is actually feeling good. Had to be a little careful at the gym this morning but as it was a leg day didn’t interfer much.

Finally went ahead and made my first Biotest purchase. As much as I’m on here I figured it only fair. Trying the Surge Recovery. Ordered it on Sunday and it arrived yesterday. Quick (no, not via the US Mail). Drank my first shake right after my workout this morning. Chocolate. Expect to start getting all swoll up any moment now.
Glad it went well. Speedy recovery!
welcome to the Biotest pimpery. Are you Hyoooge yet?

Next you’ll fail a drop at work. Maybe we can get some stimulus money for old farts that lift weights. I can’t afford the Biotest stuff, my cash goes for Viagra. Kind of like Chinese math, hard, the cat couldn’t scratch it. The best to ya bro.
Hell Barry, I deliver so many Victoria Secret catalogs I don’t need the Viagra.
Last night had to adapt. Didn’t realize I squeezed the bar so tight when I benched. Same with the dumbbells. Had to move my hands in, too. Not quite a CGB but narrower than normal.

Nothing today. Suppose to swim but that’s out til I get the bandages off. See what I can do in the way of back lifts tomorrow morning.
Guess I’ll call these finger tip stiff legged deadlifts and shrugs. Held bar with last 2 digits of the fingers with no thumbs. Kind of a hook grip.

Heck hel,
I almost thought I was back in time seein’ that thumb like that…I had an old outboard motor and I had to wind the cord around the flywheel & pull it a couple of times before she kicked and sputtered to life. That bandage reminds me of the pull-cord!!! But you seem to have not let it faze you at all…fast track back to normalcy!
It’s affecting me, Art. Haven’t been doing any cleans or pressing. Get it off Thurs so we’ll see how things go after that.
Spent most of the day getting all the dogs their shots and check ups. Did get time to throw the shot a few times out back. Nothing hard, just getting the arm loosened up.

Went to the gym a little later than usual this morning. Cardio crowd was out in full force. One young guy I know was lifting. Had a strange coversation with him. The subject of this web site came up and he says he reads but doesn’t post. Told him I usually only post here in the past puberty section. He said,“doesn’t seem to bother your lifting”. Never at a lose for words I said “huh?”
“You know, the low hormones”.
(Skipping all the hormone jokes that came to mind) I said,“Ain’t nothing wrong with my hormones I know of. What’re you talking about?”
“Only time I ever went to the over 35 section it was nothing but guys talking about their low hormones”.
I, for once, was at a lose for words. We need a new image consultant.
I actually asked for the hormone posts to be put in their own forum a while back.
It’s all valuable info, the TRT threads, but they sometime overwhelm the log posts(which we are grateful to have, moderators!)
I’d like to take this opportunity to plead the case with the mods that perhaps TRT could get it’s own forum or the non-TRT logs get theirs (Heh. same thing, eh?). I’m sure that the TRT-interested folks would like to quit having to pick past our chats and monologues to get to information important to them…
Please?
yeah, what skid said!
Hel - you might find this interesting. I dunno diddly about throwing, but it looked intriguing.
It was. Hammer throwers usually genuflect when his name is mentioned. Looked at the garage strength training, too. Lot of good strength training ideas. My problem is I’m plenty strong and I don’t mean that to sound as egotistical as it does. My strength doesn’t transfer to distance. As I far as throwing goes I would probably be better served by lifting a whole lot less and throwing a whole lot more. I just love to lift. Guess I’ll stay a jack of all trades and a master of none.
“Master of none”…Bullshit! You have mastered plenty over your lifetime. The fact that you still find throwing and lifting stimulating is mastery in itself. You balance things as you see fit. If you really wanted to throw further, you’d find a way, but obviously not at the expense of lifting/training. You seem to be happy with where you are presently with both, or else you’d change. I admire so many things about you, w/o even knowing you personally. In my way of thinking, you are “The Master & The Commander!” You’re doing great, keep it up, don’t change unless you want to change.

Have to agree with QT here, Hel.
