This Thing We Do

Hope your neck gets to feeling better.

Eco, that there was some weird afflication. Either I slept real wrong the other night or my wife truly does have magic fingers. Woke up this morning feeling fine. Kept rolling my head around trying to get it to hurt but all gone.
Off the next 2 days and plan on being in the gym real early both of them. Went swimming tonight. Can’t wait for warm weather so I can get back to the river.[/quote]

Was glad to read this - those neck things are annoying.

Thanks to all. It was a real pain in the neck. (Couldn’t help myself on that one). Kmcnyc, I love the swimming. Helps keep my shoulders loose, loose being a relative term, and gives me a cardio workout. In all truth though I do it more as a relaxing thing than as a workout. Just get the rhythm going and let all the bad stuff wash away.

Early morning workout
Cleans
135wu, 185x5x5
trying to work on speed for throwing
Press
135x8x4
alt db press
50x8x4
rear delt raises
30x10x4
Got home and a friend had sent me a vid he took of me squating the other night with his phone (ain’t modern times great). End of the 315x5x5 set. Don’t think I’m getting low enough and me feet aren’t as far apart as I thought. More work required.

edit: thought I attached the vid here. Might show up later. Going to try and add it to my profile.

edit/edit: does read that way doesn’t it, carl.

edit/edit/edit: Since it doesn’t appear to be showing up either place I meant to say it was more like at least 915 x 5.

That must be one dinosaur of a phone. I can’t come close to your weights with barbells, but I’m pretty sure I could squat with at least 100 of the phones we’ve got now, with good depth.

On a more serious note, Your training is looking very solid as usual. I can’t wait to hear talk of throwing again.

Damn strong cleans hel! Those suckers are tough, I’ve been trying to do them more often. Glad the neck thing was temporary.

This morning
Squats
135wux2,225x6,275x5,315x5,335x4,355x2
Leg ext
135 x 8 x 4
calve raises
200x max x 4
hammer curls
45x8x4

Squats looking good. The weight keeps getting higher and higher every workout.

Eco, my plan on squats is to do one day of 5x5 and then raise the weight the next session. Studying my vid, that may be showing on some knitting site or somewhere in the interverse, I saw my stance is still to narrow and I’m either right at or a little above 90. Working on widening my stance more. Might throw in some box squats to make sure I’m getting low enough. I’m starting to fall in love with squats agin.

Now that you have decided to stay with your favorites, powerlifting and throwing heavy things, focusing must be easier. Regaining that loving feeling for squats makes me very happy for you. Keeping the passion burning is the road to success. Keep it strong Big Guy!

Hel, I am so happy youre feeling the squat-love. I do highly recommend the box squats. They have really helped me with depth, form, and bar speed. your numbers on the “squat comeback 2009” are looking great. How is your shoulder doing in terms of your grip on the bar?
OL

Every time I see the numbers from one of your workouts, I have to remind myself to be thankful for the gifts I have. Looking great.

Grip is doing better. First set is still a pain but after that the next ones are all progressively easier on the shoulders. Still need to get the bar a little lower on the traps.
Carl, you ain’t exactly a weakling yourself. And when it comes to technique in the throws I kill for half yours’.

So, I (ahem cough) stumbled across some internet porn the other day… and it was just starting to get good when all of a sudden there is this big guy wearing a yellow shirt doing squats… I dunno what happened, really weird… lol!

Nice squatin’ big fella!

Immediately after work today:

Tates
40x10x4
elbows out tricep pushdown

  • went with the neutral grip, elbows closer to body
** hey, both these are working for Mr. MM so who am I to argue

Forced by accusations of appearing on a porn site, without getting paid for it, I’ve made my first post to You Tube. I feel so modern.

The more I watch my squats the more I find wrong. Back to the drawing board.

Bar is too high on back. What the hell do I know but the crew will agree. Will call this week. Met a guy who has formed a company helping vets you need to meet. he’s a hero too. I’ll get you the link, he’s an Iragi vet and he’s a stud. I’m going to do some stuff for them and our foundation will be assisting with their golf tourney. More to come, luv u man.

You know a whole lot brother and speak the truth. Going back to basics starting next squat day. Going to get the form down mo better before going up in weight. May involve dislocating a shoulder but won’t be the first time. Need to start videoing my workout. Great for feedback.
Working with the vets is a good thing. Thank you.

A little lower with bar placement on the back. Dig the video.Your squat has come a long way and that says it all about your determination.Maybe a little wider stance, toes pointing out with the adjustment.Keep hammering away.Nice work!

Always been known for my determination, Jimmy. Most people call it being stubborn, though.
Pre-work out last night snuck off to a side room we call the “ab room”. Actually did some stretching. Spreading the legs real wide and squatting real low while hold on to the side of a machine. Going to stretch the inner thighs and hip area everyday now. The possibility of me actually doing ab work apparently attraction the attention of several of the regulars. Mid squat my efforts were aided with the supportive comment “you gonna make one ugly pole dancer”. My reply involved him performing a physically impossible act on himself.
