That squat is coming right along Hel. Nice to see. Getting any easier to get under the bar?

Had one of those really good nights last night. No work today so I was in no hurry. Got to the gym and it was crowded. The new years resolution folk we’re out in force. Several young guys over on the deadlift platform. Asked if I could lift with them. “Yes sir. Call me Harry. Yes Sir.”

Ok, we still got some manners down here. They were doing reps with 225 so went with that for a warm up. 315 for some more. “uh, we’re going to keep going up, sir.” 375x6, 405x5. “How high do you go, sir? Don’t know, haven’t tried a PR in a while. Guess we’ll find out.” 455x1, 475x1, 505x1, 525x1. They stopped at the 475. Their “pull dude” got the 525 up. Guess after 475 you ain’t a sir no more. Had a great dam time. Haven’t gone after a 1rm max in a while and it felt great. Rest of the workout was some upper back and bi stuff. Getting ready to leave one kid comes up and says, “uh, sir, how old are you? Not half as old as I’ll feel tomorrow son.”
And I do feel it right now.
How did I miss this? This is beautiful! I love it!

“Not half as old as I’ll feel tomorrow, son”

But oh, so worth it!

Nice job here and with the recent squats!

I am grinning from ear to ear. And you KNOW Barry’s gonna get a kick out of this one LoL!
Sir, you are the man!

Youth is wasted on the young, eh?

Damn fine job, SIR!!!

Agree. You become “Your Highness”.

Strange but I sometimes look forward to moments like this in another 10-15 years. Yes, I am vain.

525 is a GREAT pull sir…sorry… Your Highness!

Proud as hell of you bro. Weather is great today. Walking to the gym. Legs today, getting a ride back. Some time this year heading to Bama to throw some iron with you. God bless, from the Missouri Mule.

Thank all of you for your comments and support. Barry, your vids inspired me.
As this is a new year I’ve been doing a little evaluation and soul searching. Came to some conclusions and decissions.

First, tried all kinds of different routines this year and I’ve been babying myself. Haven’t done any max lifting lately to speak of, not counting squats and they really don’t count yet. Next, I ain’t never gonna be a bodybuilder or olympic lifter. Just not in the cards.

Finally, lifting heavy shit is what I really love to do. Time to push it a little and see how much I can move at this age. So this year I’m dedicating to getting as strong as I can. Back to my old, extremely complicated and well thought out routine. Lift heavy shit, lift it often.
Skid, proud to say I’ve got my hands all the way on the bar when squating and getting my elbows done under the bar. Getting the bar lower on the traps and spreading the feet out more in a powerlifting set up.

That is awesome, Hel! Tear it up!

That’s a great deadlift story hel! Go get 'em this year.

You have to get to a meet. Over 50 and deadlifting 525, benching 315x5x5…you’d kick ass. Even if you just did a push-pull until you feel more comfortable with squats. I would let you borrow my singlet if you needed one.

Good pair of workouts hel.

Thanks all. Eco, if anything, comes within my vicinity and schedule I’ll enter. Problem is I use up most of my Saturday leave going to T&F meets. Not even worried about the age thing. Last/only push pull I did was year before last. Went 405/505. Wasn’t really working the deads then.
No lifting yesterday.

Good looking DL’s there. Big pulls indeed.

Been very busy lately doing some work at the vets home. Started back going to the gym in the evenings. Love lifting all alone but plan on needing some spotters. Just can’t beat having a bunch of younguns push you, either.

Good workout Hel. The kids push us, and we push the kids!
