I’m your 1000th poster, do I get a prize. Looks like you’re fired up and ready for the new beginning. It’s always a good feeling getting workouts in during the holidays.

FF, I don’t have any problem lifting heavy in the morning. I quess all the years in the military have pretty much got me use to going from full asleep to full awake with no transition. Drives my wife crazy. The only 1 rep max I wouldn’t do early is the bench and that’s because there’s usually no one in the gym early morning I’d trust to spot me.

Hel, I’m with you on the early morning thing and the lack of spotters at 0-dark-30. I agree its conditioning. All these years of being at work at 5a.m. have me the same way. Drives my wife looney as well!
I always loved working out before 6am, but my schedule forced me to change recently after 20 years. I found that I can actually do more later in the day. funny, cuz even though my workouts are more productive at 1130, I still prefer to workout at 0530.

Read something on Carls thread that made a light bulb go off. I’ve never really studied the right way to perform a clean but he mentioned hitting his hips with the bar on the initial pull. Realized I am pulling way to far out from my body and using too much upper body instead of getting an initial drive at the beginning. Long way of saying I did form work on the cleans. All the parts aren’t working in unison, yet.
Yawl have a good, and safe, New Years Eve.

Had to start off the new year lifting. Now that I’m getting not quite as uncomfortable under the bar I’m planning on going up in the squat weights. Got to take some vids soon cause I’m alone in the gym and want to check my depth.
Your squat trainig has come a long way.Happy New Year.
Off to work today and bench tonight. Am I the only one who keeps opening a thread a not getting the last page? Happening pretty regular now.

I see the same thing…alot!
Last night
Bench
115,225wu,275x6,305x5x5
Incline db
80x5x5
Bent row
115wu,185x8,225x6x6
Pullups
UNA 4x6
Seated rows
180x5x5
Shrugs
225xmax x 4
Almost back to zero on the bench. Then I can start making progress again. Trying to be patient with it and build up the foundation before moving on to any doubles and singles.
Had a lot of stuff to do today so no workout. Did get in a big feed at the vets home this morning.
Pants were feeling baggy lately so I weighed myself at the gym last night. Actually lost 5# over the holidays. Good excuse to carb up!
Even if its ground zero with the bench, it’s looking strong. I hope you carbed up really good.
I wish i could BP 305x5x5…that’s a nice finish to your BP routine. I’m dying to know what C A R B S you wolfed down, hel? I’m jealous of the holiday weight loss; I’ve plateaued now for over a month now.
Trying to get back to 315x5x5 first, Art. As for carbs, my wife cooked me up the biggest rib-eye I ever saw last night. Smoothered in mushrooms. Looked like a damn roast. Plus a whole bag of premade cesear salad, fresh string beans sauted with bacon and green onions, and probably 4 brotchen with butter. And my favorite, vinegar soaked, thin sliced dicon radish. And though it truly shames me to add this, a whole lot of vanilla ice cream while watching TV later. I think my heart stopped at least twice during the night.
Had to take a break tonight, back at it tomorrow.

Holy smoke! You were eating some kind of good. My heart stopped reading this!
Hel, can I come live at your house? That is some feed!
Had one of those really good nights last night. No work today so I was in no hurry. Got to the gym and it was crowded. The new years resolution folk we’re out in force. Several young guys over on the deadlift platform. Asked if I could lift with them. “Yes sir. Call me Harry. Yes Sir.”
Ok, we still got some manners down here. They were doing reps with 225 so went with that for a warm up. 315 for some more. “uh, we’re going to keep going up, sir.” 375x6, 405x5. “How high do you go, sir? Don’t know, haven’t tried a PR in a while. Guess we’ll find out.” 455x1, 475x1, 505x1, 525x1. They stopped at the 475. Their “pull dude” got the 525 up. Guess after 475 you ain’t a sir no more. Had a great dam time. Haven’t gone after a 1rm max in a while and it felt great. Rest of the workout was some upper back and bi stuff. Getting ready to leave one kid comes up and says, “uh, sir, how old are you? Not half as old as I’ll feel tomorrow son.”
And I do feel it right now.

Good lifting Hel. Thanks for sharing the story
All glory is fleeting. Legs this morning.
Squats
135wu,185x8,225x8,275x6,315x5,335x2
*zercher squats
135x5x3sets
leg extension
110x12x3
Leg Curls
70x12x3
Calve raises
200xMax x3
- adding these back in. Have to remember to keep the hands facing full up. When I do them with the hands turned sideways it flexs the forearm and puts the bar right on the tendon.
