If you want to do some full PL meets you will have to work with the regular/straight bar at heavy weight.
However, in your training you could use a combination of other bars and techniques to increase your weight. When my shoulder/elbow were really bothering me early on, I used the safety squat bar for a few weeks. I also did some front squats to improve my technique and take some stress off the rear shoulders and elbows. There are other techniques out there.
You can mix this stuff in to strenthen your squat but give your shoulders a break.
When you do get comfortable with squats I bet your numbers will be way up there. From what I’ve read if you plan on a wide stance keeping the bar a little higher up is ok.
I know we don’t talk/argue politics here but I’ve been trying to decide how to vote. Friend of mine may have just helped me out. And she shoots an M4, too.
I can throw her farther than you, more reps, more whatewver, if that’s the better half I’m the bouncer. By now, you know I’m a wacko, no military but I’d have your back. I’d have no problem with whatever! i’m old and don’t care.
I’m lookin’ for your ghosts and I’m fuckin’ them Up. Just spoke with Jimmy T, what a blessing.
Skid, Not ready for Joe Biden in a bikini. He does look fit though. Understand he’s big on walking whenever he can.

Ever heard of this? Guys on another bench. They pause on their chest, lift a couple of inches, hold, another couple of inches, hold, lockout. Looked rough but I’m not sure of the theory behind it.

I can remember some of the body builders doing that back in my college days. As I remember it they liked the pump in the chest and tri’s. I never was smart enough to understand that.
If you ever figure out an answer to that shoulder flexibility problem let me know. I have the same problem getting my hands back on the bar during squats. I have to use a safety squat bar now.
Hel- nice bench numbers!! I just got back under the bench this week for the first time in a year. My numbers will not be in the same ballpark as yours (ie mine will be in the Little League ball park)
Crazy bench bro and taking on the power lifting will be great for your competative nature. It took me so fricking long to read through this thread but I suggest you do it to. It is amazing to see where you are now from your first posts.
I wish I would have read it before I did legs today I wouldn’t have punked out on the weights nearly as much
JW, Arnold destroyed any chances I had of hearing “the pump” and keeping a straight face with his famous/infamous line in Pumping Iron.
Ironmantrw, I’m shooting to eventually enter powerlifting again so I want to be able to use the straight bar. It really fustrates the hell out of me being limited not by my lifting strength but by getting under the damn bar. I’m hardheaded and I’ll keep trying.
Steely, apply the same approach and intensity you did with your arms and your bench will be back up there soon.
Ugly wet day/night. Both the wife and I are home together for a change. Goin watch a little TV and hit it early. Might even get lucky. Doin squats early tomorrow morning. Wait a minute. “Women weaken legs”. Oh, oh.

Me Too!I still have problems with my left side and somedays I have to take it easy leading into my squats.I do some overhead press and some laterals very light.
SHW, got a lot of respect for what you’re doing, man. Best thing about our little group here is helps motivate you to keep at it. Get days I don’t feel like going to lift, say screw it, then I sit and read here a while and end up heading to the gym. Speaking of legs…
This morning, they were a little weak for some reason:) but I went with squats anyway.
