If you can get one, you might use a cambered bar for squatting. It’ll give you a lower hand position that wouldn’t require as much external rotation.
Or a safety squat bar. SSBs put the weight on the shoulders on pads and let you have your hands in front on handles. They will try to cave you forward since the weight starts out in front of you and so are great for strengthening the upper back erectors.
Barry, year before last the Alabama Sports Fest was at the University of South Alabama. Make a long story short, most of the thrower’s met up at Wintzells for an oyster orgy. I was one of the little guys. mountain of shells (I take mine nude with hot sauce and a dash of vinegar)and many pitchers later all the crazy signs were moving around. Love the blackened shrimp, too.
Skid, Probaby would work a lot better but I love competition and in a meet I’ve got to use the straight bar. May try to find a welder to make me some of the old fashion stands and see if I can donate them to the gym.
Gettin’ under the bar, that’s great news hel! Hey remember when you all kept telling me about the lovely weather down in the South, while I was still carrying stones through the snow. Well, buddy, yesterday was our warmest day yet this year, it got all the way up to 80 degrees. And this morning, it a delightful 71, and I’m heading out to the yard for some fun. Just thought I’d share.
At the gym I go to in the States, Hel320, the O-lifters use free standing automotive jack stands (I guess) welded to a base. There is a thread on this site that discusses something similar. Don’t know if that helps you.

Haven’t lifted and thrown on the same day in a long time. Should have enough time to rest up. I feel ready for the meet. Suppose to be a hot day Saturday, around 94.
Good luck in the meet Hel. Sounds like you have a good plan. I was planning on competing in the USATF FL championships this Saturday (about 2 hours away from where I live), but I just found out last night, I have to leave for Germany on Sunday for several weeks for a work assignment. Have too many odds and ends to clean up before leaving, so will sit this one out.

Nothing better than a man with a plan. Staying tuned for the results.
The USATF Alabama Masters is over. 96 damn degrees. Had to chalk my neck every throw. You can gloat now DZ. And JW, the speed training paid off. I did have a great time.

Discus - 1st
Shot - 1st
Not sure how the picture will turn out but I threw it in to show I’m not out there picking on the little guys. I’m the 6’2, 235 guy on the right.
