Had to take a day off Wednesday to let the old shoulder recover. Got to remember I’m not a kid any more and can’t do what I could when I was 50:)
But Thursday I was out throwing again. Weather has been to beautiful not to.
And of course last night was Friday. Still working on the speed. Got to stimulate those twitchy muscles so they’ll move faster.

Working out when my last day off throwing and lifting next week will be. First meet is next Sunday, May 4, and I figure at least 2 days off prior to the meet should do it. Everyone have a good weekend.
“What, not a kid anymore?” Shit, all this time I thought you were still wet behind the ears, a tenderfoot, a young bull…now I get the impression that’s all changed?
I can only imagine how that shoulder feels…with the rest and a little TLC, should be fine for the 05/04 Meet.
I like your stamina(4 sets) in the BTN & Mil Presses; your shoulders may be stronger than you think! have a great weekend!
Hey Qt, you know the story of the old and young bull on the hill looking down on the herd?
It’s the discus does it to my shoulder. Don’t have the flexibility to get my arm back as far as I should so I end up muscling it out with just my arm. Not the recommended procedure.
Got some swimming in afterwork yesterday. Always helps loosen me up. Raining this morning, went and threw the shot anyway. Easy to see where it hits in the mud. Came home soaking and smeared in mud. Felt great. Grown man and the wife makes me take of my clothes on the front steps before I can come in the house. Yeah, I’m king of this castle!

At least she didn’t take the garden hose to you first…
Way ta go, hel! I just have one question for you…was the dip in the pool just for loosening up, or, were you afraid to get the shower all messed up too…my wife makes me shower in the outside stall when i come home like that…refuses to let me set foot into house like yours; never would dream of showering inside unless I took a bottle of softscrub in with me.
That kinda of drive is meditation…time to think about the Meet(yet keep both hands on the wheel & both eyes on the road). When i coached Football in the NYC, I used to have my players ride the bus to the game in silence…I called it “Silent Rage”…keep all that energy inside that would be used for talking, yelling, BS’ing and release it when the whistle blows starting the game. That drive would be perfect for getting psyched for the Meet, and to silently critique how things went & what needs work & improving on the way home. Are you making the drive alone?
Have fun training over the next couple of days while you prepare body & mind for the Meet on the weekend.
Actually QT, I do love the ride. Goes through some really pretty country and not many people on the road on Sundays. I’ll be going alone. Talking my movie camera with me so hopefully I’ll get some action shots.
Thanks guys for all the well wishes. What I really hope is a lot of competitors show up. I’ve been to these where no other thrower’s in my age group show up and then I’ve been where there’s 30. Don’t really care where I place as long as it’s a fun meet.
Good news for the offspring hel, sounds like he’s gonna do well. Thanks for the link to Masters mag, and kick some ass this weekend big guy. Pics when you get back please.

Should be able to get in one more day of throwing after work today.
Ok, I couldn’t leave well enough alone. I’ve been practicing the rotational method of throwing the shot all year. Theory is it gives you more speed and torque over the glide method. I just don’t feel like I’m getting a good push on the shot using it. So the other day after my regular practice I take a throw using my old glide style. Of course my form sucks and I only cover half the circle but it goes as far as my rotational. So, today, I’ll see how far I can get it using my old style. Nothing like changing right before a meet.
