Hi guys. I recently discovered that my gym has two thick bars. One must be around 6 inches thick and the other one is even thicker. I’ve been using them a bit for some pressing exercises, like strongman presses.
However it recently occured to me that when you’re grappling, it’s very rare that you’ll be manipulating a joint that’s as small as an olympic bar which makes me consider centering my workout around the thick bar for a while.
So, do you guys think a martial artist can benefit substantially from using primarily thick bars for their weight training exercises? … assuming the thickness of the bar is not a big limiting factor in the specific exercise’s form.
