Make your openers something very easy that you know you could do for like at least 3 or maybe even 5. This will ensure you don’t just bomb out of your first meet. You could probably do your opener even if you mess up your form or something from nerves. Strength wise though, he’s right, it should make you stronger. That’s where the term “meet magic” comes from. See when you get scared and anxious your body goes into a fight or flight response and diverts blood flow to your heart, lungs, and major muscle groups. That works to your advantage! I think you should go for PR’s on your thirds.
