Hello all. Im trying to lose some fat right now and I was always told that if you want to burn fat, get more muscle. I was also told that whey protein would be usefull in this process. But in bold print on my whey protein it reads, “NOT INTENDED FOR WEIGHT LOSS” can someone clarify for me please?
My take on the label claims is that protein supplements are not to be used to replace all your meals(shhh v-diet people) as a safety precaution so someone doesn’t hurt themselves. You are fine.
That label is on there because Whey protein alone has NO, absolutely 0, magic powers.
If you change nothing else and start drinking whey shakes you are going to still have a spare tire and never will win the Mr. Olympia.
Back in the day protein powders sometimes had claims on them about building muscle. Those were probably deemed of questionable legality. The supplement makers have to cover themselves for all of the implications that their advertising makes too.
Whey is just another food source. What makes it special is its high protein, low fat, low carb aspect; making it very versatile and easily allowing the addition of protein to your diet without lots of fat, carbs, or bulk (less food to digest). It also is highly convenient, fast to be absorbed, and highly bioavailable.
It is a major aid to your body composition goals, but by itself it will do nothing. Since most people are ignorrant in even simple concepts like this, the companies have to protect themselves from misunderstandings.

Some uninformed folks might think it is a meal replacement rather than being the meal supplement it was intended to be. Depending on the formulation, it wouldn’t have enough of the micronutrients you’d need to make it through weeks of caloric restriction and still stay healthy…ish.
you just might die of some weird nutrient deficiency, if you were stubborn enough about it.

Because dumbass twinks will eat a protein shake in addition to their chocolate cake breakfast and wonder why they still have cottage cheese thighs.[/quote]
