Whey Serving Size

Hi, about to order some more whey but have a quick question, some products give a serving suggestion of 50g of which 45g of it is protein while others suggest a 25g scoop containing about 22g of protein.
How much protein should I be looking at per shake, is 45g too much?

Cheers

This is a silly way to shop for whey as you can add however much you want to a shake.

Most of the reputable brands I’ve seen contain roughly 20 grams of protein per scoop, but even this can vary a great deal based on the scoop size. IMO, some companies try to trick newbies by claiming some outrages protein content just by using a shovel-sized scoop.

If you want a quality brand that you can trust at a good price, why not order Grow! Whey from this site?

Thanks mate, so ignoring the scoops if i’m going by protein only how much should I look to be having per shake? If I was to go by the last two i’ve bought it would either be 20g or 45g per serving.

Regardless of servings size you need to think about your lean body mass, absorption rate, and your overall goals. I’d say a 200 lb guy usually shoots for 40 grams or so per shake. Some guys just do 25 g’s some guys do like 75 so you need to figure it out what works for you. Good luck.

In addition to this, you need to look at how much protein you’re already consuming compared to what you need/want. The make up the difference with your protein powder.

There are plenty of in-depth articles on the topic on this site, but 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily (assuming you’re not obese) is a good number to shoot for.

regardless of what brand of protein powder i use. I work out, according to the label, how many grams of powder will give one gram of protein.

Then from that i work out how many grams i need in my shake, depending on what shake it is(pre/post/breakfast smoothie) and what is allready in the shake.

For example my current powder gives 1 gram protein from 1.4 grams powder. I need 40 grams of protein in my post shake so i weigh off 56 grams powder.

I do weigh all ofmy doses off though, i was quite dissapointed to discover that the scoop they gave me would never be able to hold the recommended dose, so i was under-dosing for quite some time. Now i just work according to the content on the labels, what my diet requires and my scale.

This is a rediculous thread. Weighing protein powder??? Seriously?

Protein powder is a food. A gram of protein has 4 calories. Fit that into your macro ratio for the day and be on your way. If you people are spending time figuring this out how do you get things that are actually important done?

Cheers for the advice lads, I think I have more reading to do.

some of you guys treat protein powder like it’s some kinda drug. it’s just food! treat it the same as a piece of meat or a chicken breast. reminds me of guys at the gym who ask me if i take protein lol. no i don’t take it, i’m not “on” it, i just eat it.

No shit. I hate the protein/creatine stereotype also. Students in my school who don’t know a thing about supplementation pass judgement that such and such person “is on the creatine/protein stack”. That’s why he carries that bottle when he works out.

I just turn my head and think moron.

I prefer to think of it as an extended pun.

WHEYing protein powder. That way I don’t lose respect for too many people.
