The Un-Deadlift

This is my first week back to training since some time in September. I had two or three months of training last year-I hope to at least double that this year. This gives me hope that I might hit 40 reps this month…

No offense man, but you might want to work on good form with 1 rep before you try to get 40.

None taken, the first twenty reps I had a kink in my left knee, which I guess made me decide to not bend it much.

If I make it to heavier weight I might start using some legs and locking out at that top. This is just kind of like cardio for me.

I just did 20 reps at 405# in a touch n’ go style of deadlift locking them out at the top. I may do high reps one more time for a little more prep work.

I really pulled my right hamstring last fall and so I am hesitant to go heavy and crazy on deads or squats for fear of peeling the meat off of the back of my right leg. Does anyone have suggestions as for what I might try next? I can deadlift 405# for 20 reps so speed pulls and medium box squats might work. I haven’t attempted any squats yet but when I do I would ease into them.

I guess my goal would be to work up to heavier weight for lower reps eventually and to not destroy my body. In time I may resume my “pursuit” of a 3x bw deadlift fo 3-5 reps. (220 bw)

Thanks.

Cant say i’d know how to give you advice, but congrats 405x20 seems unreal, keep up the ass kicking

Thanks, I’ve hit 24 reps on this weight a few times so I might as well try for that next time and then move on to another rep scheme/movement. I kind of have my eye on 20 rep squats, so I’ll have to see if I can do sit down with a bar and not die.

405x20 does seem unreal, keep up the good work man. How long did it take you to work up to doing that?

About a week and a half.

I used to lift weights consistently when I was a kid and haven’t completely gone weak yet. My conditioning is really bad right now and I doubt my strength is that great either. It must be the straps. (:

I shouldn’t generalize but I would guess that most people who can deadlift 600lbs. or more could pull 405lbs for many reps. That is of course, if they saw any value in it. I can’t say for sure but I think focusing more on heavy weights and lower reps would get you to higher reps with 405lbs more quickly than doing high reps. In other words get kind of strong, then if you want to pull high reps try it for a few workouts and see what happens then go back to what made you strong.

Impressive dead lifting Bluejay. Your goal reminds me of this vid.

Yeah, I’ve seen this video. This guy is pretty fit. Me not so much.

The more I think about this, the more I think that this belongs in conditioning. I had a strap failure.

You make that look easy… you suck! (Yes, I am a tad jealous.)

You’re right I do suck, I’m fortunate that I still have some lingering strength from my youth, straps, and freakishly long arms. Actually I was surprised how easy it was up to 20 and then about 23 hit me hard

I see from your log that you are doing some deficit deads, FUN!

Pretty much have been pulling every other day for four months now…

Your pulling vids are motivating; I liked the “Eye of the Tiger” in the background.

I see that you’ve been going nuts with the pulls, that is fierce!

Nice lifts, but your lifting area looks like a scene from the show Hoarders!

I think it looks worse than it is, but that was kind of funny!
