The Race to 600

575 today guys, first time back pulling in my suit so form was all over the place. I’m closing in.

ME stands for max effort. It usually entails working up to a 1 RM or 3+ lifts over 90%. It is one of the primary strength training techniques used by the westside template.

As side note. If you can do 15 reps at 85-90% of your max then your the max is much higher than you think. [/quote]

I think he means 15 total reps over 4 or five sets(5x3 or something)

Excellent pull! That is a lot of damn weight, not too much farther to go.

Todays DL workout.
225 x 8
315 x 5
405 x 3
455 x 3
495 x 3
495 x 3
495 x 3
495 x 3
495 x 3 felt a little twinge in my right hamstring on the 1st rep, felt it more on the 2nd rep, failed 3rd rep.

If anyone is interested, I took video of my workout for the first time today. I feel a bit out of my groove from my DL hiatus. Not to sure about my form or set-up, any suggestions are welcome.

I’m uploading the video and will post a link once it’s up.

Solid session, man. I can’t imagine having to set down the bar that slowly…I’d imagine to appease the gym staff?

What kind of shoes are you wearing and why any at all? Just curious.

I bet you can pull 600 already. You should wait a week or two and go for it.

I just bought a rack for my house so of course I had to test it out with some rack pulls today. My competition is next weekend so I didn’t get too crazy or heavy. I set the pins on the bottom hole which made it about a 16" pull. No straps or belt today. Worked up to 550 for a single and it went up fast and smooth. I decide that was heavy enough for today.

I might do a light, low volume, full body workout on Wednesday. Other than that, I’m resting up for the week.

Had the meet yesterday hit 600.5 on the squat, an easy 501.5 on the bench and pulled 573.

I hit as solid 51.5 LB PR on the bench and 23 LB on the pull. I left some in the tank on the pull as well, however the squat was tough not to strong.

Thanks. The gym I train at is not exactly exactly set up for powerlifting, but it’s only a couple of minutes from my office. If I drop the bar there, it shakes the whole place and freaks out the fat girls doing cardio. The shoes are just some adidas wrestling shoes. I would rather train barefoot but shoes are required there too (why do I train there again?).

I will see how I feel on Friday and see if I can pull a new PR. I have never tried DL’ing over 545 and have only pulled that once. In fact, when I pulled 545 that was the only time I tried pulling anything over 495.

Solid pulling session man. Great stuff.

I am going for 400 this week, snatch grip deads from a box went up easy last week, so its time for a new max session. I wish all my lifts went up as fast as my dead has been.

Your bench numbers blow my mind. Nice job.

Im in… my best DL right now is 565… im hoping to hit 605 sometime this summer…

on another note… where can you find information for what is considered elite?

USAPL/IPF Standards (in kg)

thanks

Looking forward to this. I just hit my first comp PR of 515 this past weekend at the WNPF UPSTATE NY II and still had more in the tank. The video of it is on the “Over 35 Lifter” side.

I lift with an old Marathon suit sumo style.

Thanks man your pulls are looking pretty strong, it wont be long you will be hitting 6 no problem.

Friday, I maxed out on squats at 365, then moved on to rack pulls, i worked up to 385 with a conventional stance. I didnt feel like i got much of a workout from this, so i moved on to try sumo stance full deadlifting. I did 135x5 185x5 235x5 285x5 335x5 then pulled 405. So based on that, i think i am going to switch to pulling sumo. That was a 30lb+ PR, and i had never pulled sumo before.

Has anyone else seen these kinds of differences between pulling conventional and sumo, especially after it being your first time pulling sumo? Just wondering if this is somewhat normal.
