The Race to 600

Hi Guys

I’m a long time lurker, infrequent poster. I have been training for the 600 deadlift recently. I went on holiday a month ago and got sick for basically the whole month with Giardia, some food poisoning and a mysterious virus. Just before the trip I pulled 572 weighing about 202. I attempted 600 and it flew up to the knee and stalled. This was in bare feet and shorts. My first day back training will be wednesday so I’m starting back chasing that 600. I don’t think it is far away.

Good work on the training you guys are putting in.

Im getting in on this race. Steady heavy puller, hit a PR of 545 in a mock meet because work wouldnt give me that saturday off. I got my 515 pull on vid floating around the site from a couple months ago. Im DEFINITELY feeling 600 by apr, tkaing into consideration work, holidays, school, and the usual. Anyone dead in Romaleos? I do and i think they are unbelievable to dead in. Any other opinions?

Pulled a sumo PR of 272.5/601 today, was suppose to be 275kg but I wasn’t feeling great in warm-ups so I dropped it down a tad…I really think 280kg could of been there today though. Done with hook grip in a Viking Deadlifter.

i love when the weight drops and the camera vibrates, awesome.

im glad to see im not the only one who pulls with that stance either. i used to pull with my arms outside with a narrow leg stance and then stopped for a while, the next time i DL’d i did it the way i do it now, just feels better…aaaaaanyway.

Im quite a ways off, but Ill throw my hat in here. Recently switched over to pulling sumo and am still working on getting proficient at it and at pulling in my gear.

Hit my first 600lbs Deadlift (RAW) in a meet the other day. It was actually 275kgs so whatever that wroks out to be.

Lift was strong, had at least another 10kgs in me. Ill post a vid when I get a copy of the meet footage.

As promised:

I think it was harder to get the video on YouTube then it was to lift the 600.

Since I started this thread, I might as well report my progress. My goal was to hit 600 by the end of the year. I’ve made some good progress, but it’s not going to happen.

There’s a push/pull in Milwaukee in February and that’s where I hope to hit 600. I probably won’t even attempt to pull 600 before that.

On a semi-related note, I took a 10 foot farmers walk with 300 per hand. (I only have room to go 10 feet in my basement, but I don’t think I could have gone much further anyway.)

For whatever reason, I have never even attempted to pick up 300. It was slow and ugly, but it went. I think I need to train heavy farmers more often. I don’t know why I never do.

I’m in. My best gym lift was 525 in January. I pulled 500 (25 pound meet PR) about a week ago, at my last meet. After that, I almost finished a 530 pull, but couldn’t lock it out.

Well, well, look who showed up.

Good luck on your pulling.

Thanks. Good luck to you too.

I’m aiming to do my first meet in a few years this summer. (Summer of 2009) and am aiming for 600lbs.

My last meet was in June 2007 where I hit 525.

It’s going to be a long road due to a major back injury. I’ve been taking everything slow and feel I can start pulling again. About a month ago I pulled 385x5 for a few sets.

Hpefully before 09 is out, 600lb deadlift will be in my hands.

Game on!

Edit: At least this time I won’t be at the bottom of my 198lb weightclass. I’m hoping to have to cut a few lbs to hit 198. Bigger = Stronger? We’ll see!!!

those’ll definately strengthen your traps too. my traps’ll feel a little sore just from walking the 100’s back to the rack after chest.

I guess with a 535 pull, I’m in this race for 600, I deff want it by my 20th birthday in July.

Had my first comp yesterday. On deads I went 500, 555, and then for the 600. First two went smooth. This would be my first time even attempting 600. To my surprise, I pulled it to the top of my thighs, or so I was told by everyone, then the very last thing I ever thought would happen happened. I tore the skin on my left hand, and I began to lose my grip on the bar. Disappointed, yes, but totally pissed, no. I had the lift, and the flesh will heal. I weighed in at 212, so it was a good day…

Hi guys, just wondering how long it took you to get to a big DL (say, 2.5 x BW). How many years of deadlifting are we talking? Do you think a lift like that is possible for an average person with above average dedication? Thanks!

Everyone is different. Everything from mindset, to genetics to diet and more comes into play.

Train hard, and be smart in life.

DEADLIFT FRIDAY AM JAN 16TH 2008. 520 LBS X’S 3 PAUSED REPS. DEADLIFTS FROM BELOW NORMAL(DEFECIT). WORKINGS ON TOP END. LOCKOUT.SPEED OFF FLOOR IS GREAT.

hey fellas. does this need to be raw? i did not read all the way through. i pulled 500 raw at my meet in May, but with just briefs hit 560 in my September meet. I just got a hand-me-down Metal Squat suit so i am going to rock that with briefs and hope to be pulling 6 pretty soon. I am switching to a sumo stance with this setup tho, so it might take me a little while.

I’m quite a ways off but it seems like a feasible goal for the year, I pulled 435x5 a few days ago but I’m adding quite a bit to the bar every week and it seems and my weight is going up again(stalled around 200 for like a month). I don’t own a suit, or a belt even, but I also don’t plan on competing so it’ll be a gym lift like that. Maybe I’ll test myself next week to see how much I need to add in a year…

I do feel weak just reading this thread though, motivation+++
