You can give myspace, the internet in general and tv for all of that happening. But fuck it, its not a bad thing. The good bands are still out there and if more people are liking them then thats fantastic. Hell I’d rather have people listening to this kind of music than most others, regardless of why they are there for.
Yeah… and Hot Topic.
I agree with the listening aspect, but I can’t stand all these little douchebags (as well as their parents!) coming to shows. Especially when they:
Pick fights
Complain about getting hit
Complain about their kids getting hit
Randomly run around bumping people (i.e. their version of “moshing” or “dancing”)
Think they know everything
It also pisses me off when bands reunite to make an extra buck. i.e.- Youth of Today. Charging $10k for a show and singing about straight edge when they aren’t? Come on.[/quote]
Ha, I had to look up Hot Topc, the Aus version is a chain of stores under the “Dangerfield” name. Reunion shows are becoming more common through old bands getting new fans through internet access that in some casses amount to many more people who knew about them in the first place.
On a more awesome note, I went to a Chuck Ragan & Tom Gabel acoustic show last night. Fuckin Awesome.

I’m a huge fan of Psycho/Rockabilly. Some stuff I’m into right now:
*Stray Cats
*The Meteors
*Tiger Army
*HorrorPops
*Nekromantix
*Lee Rocker
*Guanabatz
*Koffin Katz
*The Cramps
I love old blues stuff… not much else:
*Blind Willie Johnson
*Big Joe Williams
*Lightning Hopkins
… that kind of stuff
Hah, finally! Awesome, I love this board, you can find anyone here. I’m really a psychobilly at heart (had my quiff to show for it). I liked Tiger Army and Nekromantix’s earlier stuff, not a fan of HorrorPops. And I was actually merch bitch one night for the Koffin Katz (pic attached). I’d say some of my top bands are: The Meteors (of course), Demented Are Go, Frantic Flintstones, Guana Batz, Lonesome Kings, Asmodeus, Elvis Hitler, Godless Wicked Creeps, Happy Drivers, Torment, Levi Dexter… so many.

I haven’t heard of half those bands… I will definitely check them out. As I’m getting older I’m appreciating rockabilly/psychobilly a lot more… traded the mohawk for a pomp, the steel toe boots for krepers, ripped t-shirts for work shirt/westerns. My wife is also super into the 1950’s so its fun to be able to go to shows together.

My town has got an awesome psychobilly, rockabilly and surf scene! I’m going to a local show on saturday featuring all, woohoo! The Dead Tones are a local band here, I fuckin dig em!

Awesome stuff man. I’m a big fan of 50s also, as anyone into Psycho-Rockabilly should be… Gene Vincent, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, Jerry Lee, Buddy Holly, Chucky Berry, etc etc. I still have my steel toe grinders and just put some jeans over them, and they become work shoes. Check out the forum at http://www.psychobilly-online.de/ if you get the chance, you’ll find older and newer psycho bands there. I’ve also met psychos from all over the world and when I go to Europe I just hang out with people I’ve talked to on that site. Pretty cool.

Well there’s others but I haven’t been in Chicago forever so I forget who’s even playing anymore… My brother is playing with The Quakes, The Arkhams, Creepshow, and The Brains soon.
I have loads of pictures of various psycho shows and parties if anyone cares… lol.

Wow, I can’t say I have ever been to a show where people acted like that. I stopped going in about 2003. Back when I went to shows when kids would jump around bumping in to random people they would end up getting run over, kicked, punched, etc…(That’s if someone already went in, grabed them and threw them out of the pit.) As long as people would just dance and not act like douche bags the would pretty much be left alone and given respect. I mean obviously if you go in the pit you will get hit but it’s not usualy on purpose.
Glad someone here posted Propagandhi. They’re probably my favorite punk band of all time.
They’ve simmered down a lot, but for some of their early tours (“How to Clean Everything”, etc), after each song performed they’d go into a 5-10 minute rant extolling the virtues of veganism, about how “meat is murder” and that meat eaters should be sent to the slaughterhouse. I didn’t think that militant vegans existed until going to some of those shows.
I remember waiting in line outside one of their venues with my friend, a 300lb James Belushi type who was a very obvious carnivore. He bought these two obnoxiously huge hot-dogs from a street vendor and proceeded to savour them in front of the angry vegans in line. Funny shit.
