I know I’m not what would be considered a really hardcore metalhead, but I must say that my old fallback for working out when I haven’t listened to it in a long time is Metallica’s black album. The whole fucking thing just POUNDS, all the way through.
For me, and this is judged on the criteria of stuff that gets me amped in the gym:
Metallica - Kill 'Em All
Slayer - Diabolus in Musica, among others
Raise Hell - Wicked is My Game
Black Label Society - Sonic Brew, Stronger Than Death, and 1919 Eternal
AC/DC - Back in Black
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Mudvayne: L.T.D. 50
Meshuggah: Nothing
Pre-Black album Metallica, any album
Pantera: The Great Southern Trendkill
System of a Down: Toxicity, Mesmerize
Rob Halford: Live Insurrection
Korn: Follow the Leader, Issues, Take a Look in the Mirror (or whatever it’s called)
Limp Bizkit: Three Dollar Bill Y’All (except for “Faith,” this album was badass and still sounds great. Haven’t liked/detested everything else they did)
I bought an album by Dream Theater once. I forget the title, but it had something to do with seasons. Change of Seasons? Something like that. I didn’t care for it much, but I know they’re supposed to be very progressive. I just found it lacking in drive and intensity. I try to be open-minded, but it just didn’t do it for me. Any suggestions on a good album of theirs to pick up?
Im a huge TOOL fan bro. Theyre working on the new one as Im sure you know and theyve been inspired by Meshuggah; so god only knows what could come of that!!!
