The Lost (Yeah You, Gaby)

Did someone say he was 15, if so its not that weird he is not strong by this sites standards.
When I was 15 I had not toughed a weight and had barely hit puberty, maybe thats he`s situation to.
If he is anything like I was at 15, he is a dwarf at 155-160cm at a bodyweight of 40kg.

You should rather call me out, I am weak as shit and small at the age of 25years. flame me instead,
not the kid.

Unlike yesteryear, the vast majority of the people in the gym today don’t have the same goals as us. There are also many more people in the gym today than 15 years ago. They want to get a little more muscular or trim up a bit and that is totally cool. More gym memberships keeps a gym open, possibly provides more money for the gym to invest in better equipment etc and benefits everyone.

Just because someone is training with different goals than myself does not mean they are wrong because they don’t train as intensely as I am.

I also don’t think my generation is going to shit. I know plenty of my peers who are smart, bright, motivated, have tons of potential. My boy TJ, is probably the brightest kid I know, goes to Georgetown University, is majoring in finance, has such a bright future ahead of him. He hustles hard when it comes to money, is up to date on everything. 4.0 GPA in one of the best business schools in the country, yet he completely lacks intensity when we train together at the gym, he’s not in it for the same reasons as I am and that’s his choice, but his work ethic in the gym does not reflect his work ethic in other areas and who he is as a person.

There are always exceptions to the rule but no one can deny that, with the rise of the digital age, generations have become fatter (obesity at an all time high and rising) lazier (again, obesity at an all time high) and less respectful (if you think people have the same manners and respect for others that they did 40 years ago there is something wrong with you)

Crossfit is winning the popularity sweepstakes with the new generation.

Let me add that this is unfortunately an interntaional epidemic. I have taught English in four different countries, England, Poland, South Korea and Turkey, and the lack of respect and work ethic some of the kids have is ridiculous. I must however say that some of the kids are truely great and humble you in many ways so all is not lost.

It’s pretty much a 50-50 split, the clowns are usually the ones who are either overly priviliged or have little to no relationship with their fathers.

This is indeed a worrying sight, I sometimes would like “out of style” (watever that means) or get strange look if I wear a jeans and polo tee walking the shopping district while most of the ppl my age is wearing skin tight jeans and carry a bag that resemble a lady handbag (I kid u not). And more recently I am seeing guys wearing make up (again WTF!). Pretty sure they are not gay though, since most of their girl friends look hot.

Summary of this thread (but I exaggerate a bit too)

Young people these days, tut tut, they dont work hard enough, are disrespectful to their elders, have terrible taste in clothes, some of the boys look like girls, and their music is far too loud and you cant even understand the words theyre signing. And their hair is far too long. A spell a Military Service is what they need, that’ll sort them out. I blame the parents myself.

Not to be a hypocrite, but don’t you think bodybuilding is just as narcissistic as fashion. The people wearing skinny jeans probably look at you and think meat head, while you look at them and think they are gay. The only difference is we spend a lot more time than them trying to look good, we also probably obsess over it more so. Each to their own.

I dun think they are gay and I dun mean to say its wrong to be a little narcisstic, hell, we all have a right to believe in what we think fits our vision of “looking good”. But dressing more feminie just becos u want to get chicks or becos some other celebrities or douchie does it on TV, thats an entirely other matters, what I am saying is young ppl nowadays shld think for themselves more and not be led by the nose.

You are a little slow if this is what you understood from this. These fuckers wouldn’t survive military service so why would I recommend that? The problem is AT HOME. The military can’t rewire your kids if you literally raise them to believe they are owed something just for living.

The military could beat it out of them? My brother is like what you are describing, constantly thinking he should be given everything, nothing is ever his fault, and generally making very poor decisions in his life. The ONE instance of him doing well in life was when he was in Military School (yes I know not the same as the military). Personally I think nothing would be better for him than going into one of the branches and having a bit of responsibility instilled him.

If this were 20 years ago, I would agree. However, because of the weaker constitutions of these guys as well as their parents, if some kid goes down because he was running “too hard”, it will cause the same media reaction as what just happened to that college coach who got fired.

You can’t fix this without changing the parents…and as we are seeing here, many people still see this as the same old “them youngin’s is crazy” bullshit. I could see if I was over the age of 40 and saying this but I’m not.

Professor, you’ll note that I did say I was exaggerating.

again, you may well be right, maybe the younger generation are what you say they are, but without question, that has been the cry of the older generation since time began.

maybe youre right, maybe youre not, who knows?

Who knows? What we do know is in the 20’s, soldiers were often turned away for being too weak and skinny due to the Depression. We also know that currently, the general public is so out of shape, the military has had to completely change their standards and even change the requirements during bootcamp to accommodate the current wave of jellyfish.

We know this has never happened before.

We know that obesity is at an all time high.

We know that students in America do not stand up against students in other developed countries academically.

We know that the average kid in America knows more about an X-box than a mitochondria.

What else do we need to know to notice a significant problem and start to fix it?

I don’t think it’s necessarily all the parents. For instance, my brother and I are only 18 months apart, and were raised almost identically. My parents had a rule that you had to play a sport, had to do well in school, and had to play an instrument at all time so it’s not as though we were spending time inside or playing tons of video games like you see with many kids today. He and I couldn’t be more different in how we’ve turned out. It truly isn’t always about the parents, though it definitely can be, I think our societal views as a whole are mass producing youths that just generally suck at life, in particular our school systems.
