The Kai Greene Thread

In the interviews I’ve watched he really has good mind set on just winning. He talked about training once ina video I’ve seen and it was more or less “…do the reps like your life depended on it.”. That basically sums up what he’s about.

Did I say I thought he was “more knowledgeable” cause of all that? I was more so stating how he opens up a lot more then other bodybuilders pretty much. I find it intriguing. You call it rambling, I call it just being himself and letting others get a better insight of him. So fuck off with your assumptions.
No you.

Love this guy. Favorite “modern” bodybuilder.

I’m a huge fan of his post-contest ‘work’ at IHOP.

He is put together real well. I’m not sure if he can hold off Branch(and this is coming from a guy who enjoys looking at aesthetic guys). Phil Heath will present a challenge too. With that being said, this is the Arnold, and he is the defending champion and that goes a long way.

I think his hair style is really holding him back when he is on stage. No matter how hard you try and focus on the body aesthetics you’re always going to come across some other ‘x-factor’ feature. In his case its that pony tail thingy on his head or when he lets his hair free. Don’t get me wrong its a cool look but I think he’d do better with a no.2 or bald.
Or maybe you could just pull the stick out of your ass and accept that not everyone looks and acts the same.

Jay Cutler hit the stage looking like a fucking Dragon Ball character with that hairstyle but we draw the line at dread locks in a pony tail?

What next, a ban on all tattoos? Does that mean Dorian gets knocked off the fence too?
I like Kai’s dreads makes him stand out from the rest.
But to be fair someone in one of the many posts leading up to 09 Mr 0 also stated that Jay’s wacked out dew would be a distraction.
Which is the point. Jay’s hair actually made him stand out despite all of the armchair knowitalls on the internet who just KNEW it would hold him back.

Bottom line, if HAIR is causing some judge to keep someone from winning, that judge needs to be removed quickly.

I mean, Kai often has quite a bit of hair. Putting it into a pony tail IS keeping neat. Not to mention there are actually people whose culture sees hair like that in more of a religious sense even though I doubt Kai is one of them.
I think you’re thinking of the Sikh faith. Hair (in a turban) is something the men in that faith need to sport.

branch did great at the O he was grainy, full and his back has improved. that said if Kai is bigger than the O, fuller w/out holding water or being flat i really don’t think these guys can/should beat him.

Phil’s chest is fucked w/ bad insertion points and arms that gobble the rest of him up, he’s not all that his fan boys make him out to be. Dex is great i just believe Kai is bigger and better in most shots. Branch is a big pile of muscle i just don’t think he’s that pretty nor does he have as much going on as Kai.

i suppose i’m biased a bit but being as objective as i can be Kai is just too much muscle, approaching the “coleman” difference by comparison to his peers. it’s close but when they turn around it’s game over, Kai kills them and that’s the difference.

Sikh’s are not the only ones who grow their hair a certain way because their culture or religion. Some Rastafarians also do this as well in the form of dreadlocks. There’s probably a bunch of other cultures or religions that have similar beliefs as well. American Indian tribes come to mind.

Rastafarians are who I was referring to. That is why the disgust some people of western culture show towards that sort of hairstyle can be seen as bigoted.

It may look strange to someone with straight hair who has not been exposed to any other cultures but it does not look that strange to people who have.

Why does Kai do all these unorthodox and strange exercises in many of his training videos? I get that he does them because they work for him, but why is it you don’t really see anyone else doing similar stuff? Also, why doesn’t he do the basic heavy movements anymore and instead does light(er) weight with said unique exercises? What is the purpose for this?

Everyone has their poses in which they get smashed in. Phil’s side chest from the left is not that great. He hits it from the other side and he looks a bit more balanced. Kai is approaching the “super freak factor” look to him, but his whole thing is that he cant come in super dry, and that is Branch Warrens strength. I can make a case for Dexter, Branch, Kai and Phil to win, but it honestly comes down to who is on the day of the show.

And lets not forget the darkhorses this week in Phoenix who can shake some shit up and suddenly be on the radar for a top six placing.

point taken. kai dried out at the O on day one as it progressed, but his over diet left him flatter than in the past. Kai can do, dry out, he looked great at the Australian show days after the Arnold. coming in bigger (270 range) for Kai will suit him, drying out at that size might take a few tries. i’m torn because i like him freaky big but also favor his conditioning when he was smaller. your correct it’s all about who’s looking best on that day, i just like both Kai’s look and persona more than the others, i am a bit biased.

Kai Greene’s nickname from me is the Manimal. I’ve been watching as many youtube videos as i can find among other things tonight, here are five that i haven’t seen posted here yet. In the confessions videos on the calendar, wow his weight changed dramatically sometimes. The 6-8 lbs wasn’t so surpising, it was the 30 or so pound change in one week that was surprising.

^ That leg training session is probably the best video ever made, soo much beastlyness

Are these rastafarians the same rastafarians that reject the western society as being entirely corrupt and call it ‘Babylon’ ??
Wow, now that thinking is definitely not Bigotted is it!!!
Ha ha ha, double standards me thinks.

What I think is great about a lot of these Kai videos (and vids from some others) is their attention, respect, and study of the generation(s) before them with respect to some basics about training and posing and such-- at least to the extent they take that knowledge and build on it or analyze what could have been different or need improvement on.

In that leg video (#5), Kai is talking about his lunges and how he thinks about his poses being a variation on lunges. He details how he studied old photos of Ed Corney and Zane and foot position. Basicially he was saying that he’s studied what was done and tweaked things to make them better or improved or added his own touch.

It’s like pro football players studying film. This guy trains like a monster and obviously isn’t just winging it. It shows like anything else, having a handle on the history of what you do, taking the good and improviing it, while trashing the stuff that doesn’t work (or fixing it) can take you to a whole another level.
