The Hatred of All Things Ab

I pulled my internal abdominal oblique muscle while dead lifting a week ago, and I decided it might be time to add some ab work to my schedule. I have been thinking weighted situps on the roman chair and weighted side raises on the roman chair. Apparently, I really want to use my roman chair. Anyone got any better ideas? I have been reading all over the place, but would love to hear what people really do.

I’m not saying these are “better”, bc what you wrote are good ideas. But here are some more options so you won’t get bored:

Ab wheel
Decline sit ups
DB side bends
Leg raises
Planks

Weighted Knee raises work the whole slab and woodchops

I like me some side bridge.

Can’t go wrong with side bridges. I like the idea of wood chops, especially considerring the muscle I pulled. Do you think sledge hammer tire strikes would be about the same thing? I was also thinking maybe a dynamic movement paired with a bridging movement. i.e. A. situp/sidebridge B. side-raise/plank Then just weigh them both. Well whatever… Thanks for helping me brainstorm.

the core muscles are stabilizers, meant to stabilize your body and prevent spinal flexion/extension.
plank, side plank, hyperextended hold with weight and the dragon flag Gasps are the best for sunctional core strength

The abdominal muscles stabilize the spine, but they also flex the trunk. This is simple anatomy. When you do sit ups, where do you feel it?

I ended up with this:

today:
situps off bench 3x10 with d.b. on chest
side bridge 1x30sec with wt. vest
getup 1x4

I’ll try this wends:
side raises on roman chair 3x10 with d.b.
pushup plank 1x60sec with wt. vest
getup 1x4

rinse repeat

Probably be sore tomorow…Hell I’ve been a slug all day. What matters it.
