The Flame-Free Confession Thread

lol at that nickname, “punny”

He reminds me of a quote from Penn Jillete, which is something along the lines of “The problem I’ve had my whole life is that I tell people what I’m actually thinking and they laugh in my face”

Every time he says something like “I think you should squat if you want to get better at squatting” and the person replies with some “lol, seriously though, what exercises do I need?” or the “I dont like the actual training, but if I want to be big and strong its what needs to be done” I am reminded of it.

Im trying to get wise. I still get tempted to use that pin for other stuff (even stuff I “know” is safe like band press downs) but I just figure out other ways to get it done because I dont want to be that stupid if something unforeseen happens

Its not that bad. There is definitely going to be a scar, and there is a small lump on the inside from the scar tissue, but for the most part it going to be fine. I would take a pic of it but the first zit I’ve had in like 11 years decided to grow right on top of it and its quite… unphotogenic

This has basically happened to me. I mean I’m still built better than most average guys, and luckily my shoulders are very broad, but I don’t get that many “big guy” comments anymore. If you’re relying on that kinda thing to get you through then I suggest you keep bulking and tell everyone you’re not in it to step on stage. Start pressing with the hammer strength machine too, huge ego boost and no one will know when you tell them you just benched 500

@Chris_Colucci

Why are emojis on T-Nation like 450 pixels tall? Damn things take up 3/4 of my phone screen

I hear complaints about the emojis all the time but mine are fine. They are the same size as the capital letters for ME ← they are about that size :grimacing:

They’re only huge on my computer. They’re fine on my phone.

I love giving out :hugs: cuz they’re almost the same size as me. Just add some feminine and muscle curves and some hair, and boom a hug

I prefer looking more Diesel myself

Yeah I know… and i know that. But damn I get this bad feeling my subconscious is going to play mind fuckery . In all honesty for me to get to the level I envision ( since Im not talking stage ready if I ever decided to commit myself again towards that end) , based on things from the past I will still be over 200lbs.

im getting older …its getting saggy

A certain former member would do that…

Well, the Hammer machines do start with an all concentric phase…

Shut up. I’m serious, because you’re on the opposite end of the ride as me. I want to be big and swole looking. I see guys like you with monster shoulders, traps, pecs, legs, everything, moving big weights. Those are weights that I want to move and those are physiques I envy. The funny thing is that I also have an obsession with being lean. Somehow I can look at someone who is swole and envy that and then when I look in the mirror I beat myself up if my six pack is fading. Talk about stupid.

If I’ve learned anything in the past year (and mostly from open and honest dialogue on the forums) it’s that I’ve wasted the past 10 years of my training. I’ve handcuffed myself. This obsession for abs always puts up a road block to my pursuit of big weights and bigger muscles.

Case and point:

Last night I’m messing around with my vest for work before bed and my wife smiles and giggles. I’m shirtless and leaning forward over the bed and I know instantly that she’s giggling at my fat roll. My love handles hold weight first and I hate it. It’s noticeable when I gain weight. She says “it’s cute”. Well, I don’t like it.

In the past, this is the point where I punch out and abandon the bulking pursuit. I cut until I’m back down to 220 or less and I can see my abs. I look lean but my strength hasn’t changed and I’m right back where I started before my attempts at getting bigger and stronger.

This time I’m trusting the process. Why? Because I’ve seen guys like you. We’ve all seen the competitive power lifters turn bodybuilder. They are usually bigger and more impressive than someone who’s always pursued bodybuilding and never carried a bunch of fat around (this probably applies more to the recreational folks instead of the elite pro’s). Based on my observations, the path to a physique that I covet is to get a little bigger and fatter, get a lot stronger, and then cut the fat when I’m satisfied. The end result will be a much larger person than I can achieve while maintaining abs.

You seem to be at the end of my road and playing with the idea of the cut. If that’s what you want then trust it. Like you said, you know better. But you’ll be one of those guys who’s big, strong, and lean. That muscle mass that I can see in your one inch avatar isn’t going to run away when you start shedding fat.

Actually … I went the reverse route. Started Bodybuilding when i was a kid and got burned out on it and focused on strength and performance side more.

Well duh!!! That’s because you keep trying to take them in and out of your wife’s purse! If you would just leave it in there, it would safe and sound !!

I know you started there, but I’d say you fit more into the strength and performance crowd now. Your physique is big and powerful. For the sake of making a point, it seemed easy to compare you to a powerlifter turned bodybuilder.

You completely understand my pain, haha. That is a solid quote.

It was exactly the same for me. Wanted to compete a few years after I moved out of my parents’ house but in my head I still could still hear my dad saying, “If I ever find out you got on stage without clothes on, I’ll break your legs!”. If you knew my dad, you would know it wasn’t a threat. It was a promise lol!

I can recall countless more who went that route of getting chubby but never ended up more muscular,… they ended up bigger, but often the types who always have a reason not to diet down and find out that they don’t look like mr. Olympia. The powerlifters who do build more Aesthetic muscle (and I know there will always be PLers angry at me for saying this) while being competitive almost always include some bodybuilding type training in their routines.
