I just went to the CDC’s webpage and here are their stats for 2013-2014:

Adults
Percent of adults aged 20 and over with obesity: 37.9% (2013-2014)
Percent of adults aged 20 and over with overweight, including obesity: 70.7% (2013-2014)

Did you catch that like I did? With obesity? The site also frequently says adults that have obesity… like it’s some sort of freaking disease that you catch if you have bad luck. Horseshit! They ARE obese. It’s a state of being.

There you have it. Americans are fat. Here are the heartbreaking stats:

Children and adolescents
Percent of adolescents aged 12-19 years with obesity: 20.6% (2013-2014)
Percent of children aged 6-11 years with obesity: 17.4% (2013-2014)
Percent of children aged 2-5 years with obesity: 9.4% (2013-2014)

I think it should be considered child abuse if you allow your child to become obese. Six year olds don’t have much control over their diet. Those poor kids who look like rolly polly’s have no chance. They’re doomed with health problems, self esteem problems, lack of confidence, etc… I think the long term effects can be similar to those of physical abuse. But here in America we don’t talk about being fat like it’s a bad thing. If you tell someone they’re fat then you’re a bully. It’s fat shaming. Or, you could be stating a scientific fact! Freaking snowflakes and their feelings.

I question your ability to binge eat at 2am :stuck_out_tongue:

I question my own ability to stay up to midnight, let alone 2am

I don’t know if it counts as a confession but I have a strong dislike for old lads in the gym who haven’t accomplished anything trying to forcefully give advice. Now I don’t mean accomplished by having won a bunch of contests or anything but they don’t have a physique worth emulating nor any real strength and talking to them for a bit you can tell they never had either at any point in their lives.

Now I don’t mind talking to these guys about how they’re training or what they have done in the past but as soon as they give me “advice” or try to tell me how to train I get so annoyed. I try to avoid them but I workout in a small gym so they’re going to talk to me at some point

Let am brag about their glory days a bit. My favorite is when they quote their old maxes. The first thing they teach auditors is that round numbers with a zero at the end are likely made up.

“I used to bench press 500 lbs.”

“Cool”

I haven’t seen 2am in a while. I usually head to bed at 9pm. I am not a morning person and getting to work by 0700 takes some work.

Man I wish it was them just bragging but they’ll actively interrupt my workout to give me “advice”. Example

Old Lad - Hey why are you using X amount of weight to deadlift

Me - It’s what my program calls for

Well you should probably use Y amount of weight because that weight seems to low if you’re trying to get stronger

I think I’ll trust the program and follow it

Ok I’m just trying to help you get strong

(Start setting up for the lift) Thanks I’ll consider it

He then watched me do the lift then tried to tell me again that I needed to use the weight that he wanted me to mind you this guy has never used more than 135 for his deadlifts in the four years I’ve seen him in the gym.

Have you considered telling them you don’t want their advice? Also helpful to say that you don’t want to talk.

We are such a passive aggressive society that directness tends to really throw people off their game.

Not going to lie this thought never crossed my mind haha.

For as long as I’ve been going to the gym I’ve always been approached whether it be for a spot, training or form advice, or getting unsolicited advice. This even happens if I’m in a city for one night and am using a gym I’ve never been to. I guess I look pretty approachable? But I’ve just always accepted it as gym culture that you have to deal with as opposed to trying to stop it

This isn’t a confession, more like a PSA, but I just saw a video of Thor Bjornsson squatting 200kg for 29 reps on his insta, and that is ridiculous

Static strength has caught Thor out a few times. Good on him for addressing his weaknesses but I hope he isn’t trying to read tea leaves based on last year’s WSM - especially in terms of his freakish athleticism

Inb4 high reps isn’t pure strength - the guy’s pushing a 1000lbs skwat.

I’m really hoping he takes the WSM title next year. Based on what I’ve seen his strength is shooting up wayyy high

Google…badass santa

If you ever want a strength coach, his is the one you want.
Sebastian (australianstrengthcoach on instagram)
Brilliant teacher and coach, always details his lifts and his gym is fucking brilliant
A mate of mine works for him, and his coaching for progression is phenomenal. Always holds seminars all over Australia deconstructing various compound lifts and the whole thought of WHY you do what you do, it’s a real eye opener…

Yeah I’ve been wanting to go to one of his seminars. I’ve seen his clientele and his lifters are incredible

I think getting a drivers licence is a waste of money.
Idd much rather spend the 2k+ euro’s on my education.
I think cars in general are over rated, and i prefer to bike or take the train.

I don’t really have any desire to learn to drive. It’s expensive and dangerous. If I could snap my fingers and have self-driving cars become a common thing right now I would.

However I’ve been lucky to have always lived in either a big city (London), a big-enough city (Dublin) or a small enough place (Gibraltar/Isle of Man) that public transport/walking are fine. I have a motorbike license and I’m going to get my car one just for the sake of it but I don’t really want to.
