Only the strong survive man. Don’t feel bad about it. Kick his ass to the curb and move on. Not trying to be insensitive, but saying you have to fire a good man tomorrow while he’s down is just life. We all get kicked while we’re down. Maybe that’ll help him get clean.
My concern is this will be the last straw and he’ll go ahead and punch his own ticket.
I’ve watched depressed people make that call before. Pisses me off really.
You’re right of course. Just an aggravating situation all around.
SMBC is so awesome. Great find.
It always makes me sad when I see overweight folks pushing stuff like body wraps and such…I just want to grab them by the face and ask them, “Do you realize how much further along you could have been by now?!”

I must protest this attitude; even in a ‘Flame-Free’ thread. I’ve had to deliver this type of bad news for over thirty years. It’s bothered me every time. I would worry about myself if I reached a point when it didn’t. How a man responds to situations like this, and I mean from both sides of the desk, speaks volumes about character.
Got it done today. Not as bad as I thought. The guy was very docile, confused sounding even. He’s only been in a few days. Methadone maybe?
He’s in inpatient for 4 weeks. Therapist said he isn’t a suicide risk. Shitty situation all around.
I feel you…take care.
I help out anyone I can man. I give money when I don’t have it. I grew up poor and my dad was a raging alcoholic. Here’s the thing though; he never missed a day of work and never put himself in a position to get fired. Maybe what I said was fucked up. I do not care honestly. I meant it more in the sense of not to carry it as a burden due to the fact that it is not your fault he did not turn out well as an employee. You should not feel bad about it to the point to where it affects your day to day. Also, you having that slant at the end about my character says a lot about you as well. Flame free dude.
Probably about time to get a new job as well
@Basement_Gainz I can relate because I have seen my wife deal with similar situations. She wears several different shoes at her place of work one being Human Resources for a small local company of 70 people. It sucks for her because not everything is always black and white in certain situations.
yeah, man; dude’s an absolute genius
EDIT: what Kafka have you read? Any recommendations? I know a little about his general style and themes but have never actually read his work, although I am convinced I’d enjoy it.
I read his complete works. Everyone recommends Metamorphosis, but I honestly wasn’t a fan of it. The story is a great example of his style, but a little long for what it delivers. For fantastic commentary on the absurdity of bureaucracy and tradition, check out “In the Penal Colony”, “Before the Law” and “The Warden of the Tomb”. For commentary more on the absurdity of life, look at “The Hunger Artist”
I hate working on cars. I’m not bad at it, but aside from just looking at stuff until I’ve convinced myself that I understand what is going on- I don’t know shit about them.
I can fix anything on a car. Just read the hanes manual or watch the master mechanic make it look easy on YouTube. This will be a snap.
2 broken tools, 1 rounded bolt, 4 bloody knuckles, 3 trips to auto zone later I’m always like: “how much am I saving by not using a mechanic again?” But I finish the job out of pure stubborness and frugality.
I can relate to this post more than I care to admit…
Yeah. I just did a frozen/worn out set of rear brakes.
The mechanics fees don’t bother me. Its the attorney fees. It got ugly. Wife was scared, I was on the verge of throwing hammers, neighbors started looking.
Its those twisty springy little shitty things. 3 payments away from freedom and the thing is crapping itself from bumper to bumper.
My statement regarding character was intended to be general, not specific. I don’t presume to know you well enough to make a statement about your character. However; your “kick him to the curb and move on” statement reeked of a taking joy in the suffering of others sentiment. If that was not your intention so be it. Additionally, there is a big difference in putting oneself in a position to be fired and being the last person to be laid-off, not that my approach to delivering the news would change.
that’s cool; thanks very much for that
As a movie dude, you could also check out “The Trial” with Anthony Perkins and Orson Wells.
oh cool I’ve never even heard of that but it looks right up my street. Thanks very much.
