BTW Matty you got great shoulder development for someone who focuses on strength.

Thanks so much man, my main focus is strength but there is so much value in training like a body builder even when training for strength, high rep assistance work is where its at, training the muscle and not the movement after my big three has helped me.

After my next meet, Im really considering doing Norton’s PHAT Training, really seems like having your cake and eating it too.

Oh full disclosure all my fat gets placed squarely on my ass lol!

Thanks brother!

The stomach vaccum should be a required pose in bodybuilding competition. It would go a long way to making bodybuilding more appealing ala “the golden age”.

Well for me (probably 20%) it’s in the love handles, you must be a lucky guy!

Personal admission…

I am totally lost when it comes to proper nutrition and get thoroughly confused about it constantly, I have been thinking about getting somewhat leaner for health and aesthetic reasons after my meet and have been stealing stuff from HTs thread!

And I plan on being annoying to all you lean guys when I have questions lol!

Have you read many John Meadows articles? His nutritional philosophies seem to change the game for a lot of huge guys.

Good interview where he goes into a little detail on nutrition for his client.

Good luck, those threads are not flame free…

Thanks for this Rip, I will check it out.

I wouldn’t start a thread about it, I would just ask questions in threads. I will wear my flame retardant suit just in case.

Thanks brother I appreciate it

When dropping weight and it seems like the muscle groups one worked hardest to improve (i.e. shoulders for me) are the first to go flat and make it look as if one is “losing” muscle. However I think being flat due to a calorie deficit is a necessary part of the getting leaner process however hard it is to accept for me. However after a calorie surplus they are the first thing to come back.

I agree with the principle of IIFYM but too much variability in my food choices is a big impediment in the ability of tracking my macros, Id rather have simple tuna, chicken, ground meat, white rice and sweet potato and “clean” foods I can measure than stuff like bread rolls and junk with no nutrition info or anything that makes me estimate.

I also prefer clean foods to stuff like poptarts and soda even though I don’t think it will make a difference in physique if one follows IIFYM although one may have to be more diligent with their dental health.

I avoid foods like peanut butter because they are not mainly a single macro nutrient and even though I was hating on poptarts I would eat something like waffles and honey/fruit preserves/maple syrup due to the ease of knowing how many carbs are in it and being composed of mainly one macro nutrient.

I don’t count macros from vegetables except for those with potato in their name.

I don’t count fat in my protein sources and would only consider it for eggs and ground meat. Trying to estimate the fat in a piece of salmon or steak would drive me nuts when I can know the how much fat is in ground meat or not count it at all in lean sources.

I should start counting fat in my macros since I love avocados.

I feel those who disregard joint health and proper mobility work are shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to getting stronger or more swole. Getting injured is the biggest impediment to progress next to consistency.

I am a walking example of why this is true.

Omg me too. I was really good about till school started. Dropped all mobility work 8 months later I am a walking tight bundle of problems and neglected tissue. 2 weeks of foam rolling and its night and day differences

If you want to add a variety of food sources and make it easier to track I’d recommend myfitnesspal. Can download it on a smartphone and do it on a computer. Easy to track on the go

Also, arm and leg measurements mean nothing if you’re a fatass. 17" on stage natty, is really really really fucking impressive!
Unless you’ve ever seen (in person), someone who is close to or at contest level leanness, sporting a 17" gun, on a frame of relatively average height you will never appreciate just how impressive it really looks.
(and please don’t tell me about the guys in your gym who are 6% year round and huge -lol)

Are arm numbers taken flexed, pumped, arm dangling at side…?

I think anyone that says Deadlifts don’t work your legs have dormant glutes and hamstrings and aren’t aware of it.

I think Westside is one of the worst things to happen to Raw Powerlifting

I think most posters on this website could benefit from doing sprint work

I think trying to be athletic for muscle and strength gains is criminally underated

I think anyone that says they prefer the #fullhouse and strive that to be their physique goal has some weird psychosis/rationalization going on
Can you expand on these a bit more?

I never used to train hamstrings and would only feel deadlifts in my back but after starting my leg workouts with Hamstring curls and ending them with some variation of hip flexion(GHR or RDL variation). But now I can feel them activate on deadlifts during my back workouts although one leg is more dominate than the other one.

You can expand on the other 3 points if you want to as well.
