The Ottawa meet. The super dumb part on my behalf was that I was looking for a meet I would guess probably a month before they released the info and then when I started looking for a meet a month later it was already full. It was like a month in between looking for a meet. It is down the street from my house ahha. They have the bench only section still open, if you look at my log that is my worst lift. I want to get a legit total I should be able to get around 1000- 1050 which would be cool my current goal is getting to 1200. If i have time off in sept or something I might make a trip to one of the other one’s.

I’d send in your registration now. Our membership has grown so much in the past couple of years everything is filling up quickly. I know a bunch of the Ottawa guys will be going to the North Bay meet. A lot of people will be looking to get their qualifying totals for Provincials in November.

I feel as though the lack of computer usage is due to a lack of demand by the athletes. I generally do not see powerlifters demanding these things. I tend to only see it from spectators, and even then its from YouTube videos.
If nothing else though, its good fuel for another fed.[/quote]
computerized judging for squat depth would be stupid easy. I’m sure we’ve all seen that familiar excel based app at meets. That has definitely helped the flow of meets.
regardless, who cares lol. If a lifter is badass, I just need to see a video. I’m not going to criticize someone for using a monolift or weighing in early

I am sure it would be easy. There is again simply no demand for it among the athletes, who are in turn the people paying money for the sport.
And as a competitor, I just see it as one more thing to slow down a meet. We have 3 judges, I need 2 of them to give me whites, I’m ok with that.

Look how long it took baseball to get simple instant replay challenges.
I don’t see the need for it honestly, I just think that judges should be able to sit down and review the lift if it is close.

When during the meet would they do it?
I have 1 minute to lift after the guy in front of me finishes his lift. If the judges are reviewing the lift during that time, my feet have probably gone numb from my wraps by the time I get called up, so that really sucks for me.
If I am the guy who just did the lift, I have 1 minute to submit my next attempt. If the judges wait until all the attempts are over for my flight and I find out AFTER I submit my next attempt that my previous lift’s ruling got reversed, that really sucks for me.
I just don’t see who the rule is benefiting, aside from the people at home watching on youtube.

well computerized judging could cut out time even, but I’d agree it’s not needed. I’m confused as to who’s complaining and why lol. If some guy gets a day to weigh in and I don’t why would it matter unless I’m in the range of an all time record

I’m actually curious how it would cut out time. What are your thoughts there?

It would let there be fewer judges and less of a need for the spotters to line up to let the judges see clearly, as depth would be decided by a camera or sensors connected to the rack arm that already adjusts per lifter. This could work with squats easily and possibly bench. I’m not sure how deadlifting could be any simpler in meets.
Ah, I assumed you were talking about adding computerized judging, not replacing judges. That said, I see your argument being more about logistics than time saving. Spotters lining up doesn’t seem to drain time, nor does having 3 judges. Definitely could save having fewer humans, but I doubt there are many powerlifting federations that will line up to have their officials replaced.
That said, rack height is already a pain in the ass to set up for a meet in between lifters. I cannot imagine having to adjust rack height and sensor height depending on the lifter’s body construction.

I definitely agree with you there, it would be very cumbersome, if not impossible, to do it mid meet.
It would have to be after the fact. Instead of finding out if your lift passed immediately after getting out from under the bar, it would take a minute to review and you would know before your next lift. I think that we could probably do instant replays pretty quick if we had to just to confirm a call. Heck I think that most calls are accurate, and this might only have to be used in a few situations.
There have been situations where I think lifts have been good, and didn’t pass that this would fix too.
For the record, I don’t disagree with how it is right now. I just wish judging was a bit tighter.

Again though, if you’re reviewing it sometime after the lifter made the lift, he gets hosed on his next attempt, because he picked a weight based off of the feedback he got on the platform. Additionally, if I am competing against that guy, I’m picking my attempts based off of his attempts as well, so the effect gets compounded to me as well. I may have played it safe because the guy got a red, only to find out he actually got an after the fact white, and I needed to pick a much higher attempt.
I just see this taking a lot more time to fix a problem that isn’t there.

I do agree, I was just spitballin a bit.
I think that most of the complaints come from people smashing world records on lifts that may be subject to some controversy.
I think most judging is fair from what I can tell.

I think it could be a solution and would give the lifter a nice video, but you’d need the spotters out of the way for that. I think they should just use safety straps anyways but oh well. I’ll let crossfit figure it out

If you just used safety straps, who would put the bar back in the rack when the lift is missed?
I think safety straps are very valuable, but as someone who has missed a few squats in comp, I would never want to get rid of the spotters.
