The Dude's Rippetoe Log

get your kids’ schoolbags and wear one on your back and one on your chest so the weights you put in them dont drag you forward or backwards.

i think it would help

Dear Mrs. TheDudeAbides,

Your husband has been a really good sport, and often thinks of others before himself. Therefore, he is more than deserving of a dip belt, so he can continue to inspire others with his training logs.

Sincerely,
Darwin

… think it’ll work for ya? [/quote]

Greatly appreciated :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That just gave me a great idea. I never thought of it before. I’ve heard of using backpacks, but I could use my duffle bag … that I take with me everytime. INGENIOUS!

Dude, welcome back to the program. I missed your motivating posts. Hopefully this will be the push I need to get over the hump with my bench press.

Good luck with your goals!!

Yeah. Dude don’t you think you should start playing with some SM type stuff? Ripps is great as you’ve shown. But you have a clear defined goal to compete, and training for that event more specificall may be a good idea. That way you could add some stone/log work in there easier. Not to mention the variation could help you spark some new growth even while cutting some weight.

Just some thoughts. If you’re set on ripps, do it. It’s an amazing program. I wish you luck. And you’re not one who disapoints.

Zep, I completely agree. I want to build my strength back up, then switch to Stronglifts or Starr and integrate strongman events. The SM training is going to happen (ideally) throughout the summer. I’m looking at making a lot of the implements and borrowing what I can’t afford.

Today’s Training

military
5x135
5x135
5x135

front squat
5x225
5x225
5x225

clean
5x135
5x155
5x155
5x155

pull-up
7xbw
4xbw

bw = 238

Well I’m whooped. I got a little less sleep then normal and I believe it affected my performance. You may/may not notice, but I have switched pull-ups for chins and cleans for barbell row. I’m also [attempting] to not use a belt as much … at all.

how come you do cleans? i thought the reason you didnt do back squats was in case you couldnt drop the weight and was stuck under the bar?

or dont you know how to drop it? it can be kinda scary to drop it behind your back

i also hope to catch up on the front squats. my PR is a bit less than 220 but on just 1 rep. though ill be cycling between back and front squats every workout

im also close to your bw, today i weighed myself at 234.5 or so

since when in a clean is the bar behind your back.

I’m not cleaning the weight to a front squat … I’m cleaning for cleaning’s sake. The clean is the original preferred exercise in SS. The barbell row is a substitute. I also figure there is better carryover to strongman events … maybe not.

Not to hijack Dude’s thread but I get bored easy so I do back squats in workout A and Front Squats in workout B seems to be working very well.

Keep on Trucking “Dude”, Glad to have you back in the Rippetoe fold!

no i meant the back squats

i know, and im sure it has a carryover to… anything and everything. but you are gonna have to drop the weight sometimes or you could get your hands injured.

I’m not sure I follow. Drop the weight doing cleans or drop the weight doing front squats? Either way, I don’t see how my hands will get injured.

if the bar’s momentum stops and you turn your elbows out during a clean before you get to squat under the bar the bar will rest on your hands/fingers instead of your shoulders.

anyway i was just wondering why you dont do back squats. i thought the reason was cause you cant drop the weight at the gym you are going?

No, I don’t have a squat rack. Only an Olympic bench. Extend uprights, enter from the rear.

LOL dont talk about rears

Today’s training is delayed …

I’m going on a field trip to Cedar Point with a bunch of 8th graders. Should be fun. I’m hoping the hotel has some sort of ‘health facility’. Make the best of a bad situation.

Today’s Workout

bench
5x220
5x220
5x220

front squat
5x235
5x235
5x235

deadlift
5x295

bw = 239.5

Still trying to build back up to my previous lifts. This is more difficult than I originally thought. I’m getting the reps, but they aren’t flying up like I hoped.

Patience Dude. You will become stronger then before, but are you sure that rippetoes is the best way?

One question: Shoulden’t you do more overhead presses since you are going to start with strongman?

Best off luck
