If it’s durable, real fat loss, it takes a bit of time to get back to your older strength levels and surpass them (at elast that was for me ahahah)
Feel like running the final phase of SGSS?
And I think deloads and peaking are tricky. We’ve discussed it before but I don’t do well with decreasing my work a whole bunch in preparation for max effort.
Last year I worked right into my PRs with SGSS with no deload.
Maybe it was the wrong peak for you. Or maybe the same reason you’ve been absent from here had an effect - work, stress, less rest.
You’re still grinding and being consistent. You’ve moved forward in terms of training due to the weight loss.
@Frank_C is right. External factors play a massive role in recovery, and that is very important to peaking. I really wouldn’t worry at all. Just enjoy yourself
I was watching a weight loss transformation video on YT from that guy Omar Isuf. He said his strength went down about 7% across the main lifts after losing about 10% bodyweight over 90 days. I think like everybody else that you’re doing just fine.
The other factor is that if you’re testing squat and bench, those are two lifts that are hugely influenced by body weight. If you drop bodyweight, and then your bench and squat don’t drop significantly that in itself is a good result. Deadlift can go either way,
Because you didn’t hit the numbers you wanted at a specific point in time also doesn’t necessarily reflect that you haven’t gotten stronger. You just weren’t stronger at that time. Maximal strength isn’t a constant. I would almost bet that you are now able to handle higher submaximal weights than you could before.
Hey Mort, I’ve been sort of absent from TNation as well.
I hope you get your finger/wrist all sorted out, scary to think that it could have been some sort of clot. Glad you’re taking it seriously though and getting everything checked out.
Regarding you not hitting your expected weights; PRs aren’t easy to come by, a lot of factors need to line up above and beyond just training consistently. Your training has been consistent, the strength will show itself soon enough, but sometimes you can’t force it during a stressful time in your life!
I hope all else is going well.
So with this year coming to an end it’s a great time to start thinking about where next year will take you. Any Plans for next year my friend? ![]()
I’m also interested in this.
Hi guys yeah a new year a new goal.
@littlesleeper my finger they are certain it was a clot, my finger is cold and when I’m outside it gets really cold and hurts like a bitch. Heart has been checked out and I’m all good. I know about the PR’s but you know when you expect something and it doesn’t happen you kind of gets a little annoyed.
I’m fine.
@simo74 @dagill2 I’ve been thinking a bit about it, still not come to a conclusion yet.
But I think I’ll chase overall health for next year.
Lifting 3 days full body, running twice.
I’m thinking of doing a FB version of Nuttys routine for maybe a whole year to see where it’ll take me.
Training wise this week I’ve done a sort of built for bad workout twice.
Squat a single of 110 kg SS with ab wheel one day and Hanging leg raise the other.
Bench a single at 85 kg SS with BB row on day pull ups the other.
DL a single at 145 kg SS with OHP a single at 50 kg
Next week should be similar.
Today I ran 3,75 km in 20 minutes, goal for now is to run 20 minutes and see if I can beat the distance. Disappointed that I can’t hold a 5 min/km pace.
You’re in good company. I did cardio for the first time in two weeks and I was hurting during the first five minutes.
Well time for a quick update.
BW is hanging in there last week stayed between 78 78,8 kg today 77,8 kg, so still not gone past 80 kg since summer.
My finger still suck.
My lifts still sucks.
And running sucks as well.
Nah life is good, I’m still getting my workouts in, I’m seeing doctors repeatedly, no one can really tell what it is, I might have to accept it was a clot, but I don’t see my self as someone in the line of that.
Workouts:
working up to a top single at about 90% of SBDP
S: 107 kg, B: 85 kg, DL: 145 kg Press: 50 kg
three times a week, today I did a little less, then friday I’ll do a little more.
Ran 4km yesterday on a treadmill just over 20 minutes
Last week i ran 3,75 km in 20 minutes.
I’ve decided to start 1000% awesome (531 template) next year. 3 days a week.
Squat 531 pr + bench 5x5 80% monday
DL 531 + press 531 probably with some FSL work wednesday
Squat 5x5 80% + bench 531 pr
assistance as per Alsruhe/nutty supersetted.
It’s strange how something as small as a finger can throw you for a loop. Too many nerves in that little guy. I had swelling and pain a few years that pack that couldn’t be explained and turned out that we have a floating bone (sesemoid I think) in our fingers. Mine as all inflamed with the tendons around it. Doc ended up just telling me to wait it out and it eventually got better. Hope you get back to 100% soon dude
Hang in there man, theres always ups and downs. Just gotta push through and keep your head up.
Mate you are still doing great, your effort and consistency trumps many of the younger members of this forum and you should be proud of your efforts.
That 531 set up looks good. Is there a reason you are doing the 5x5 on the opposite day to the main left. also are you adding any other accessory work to this ?
Keep it up, Mort. Has your finger interfered with work?
I know the feeling. Focusing on micro victories and mini wins is helping me deal with some negative distractions. That and thinking of the gym as a meditative, private space where I can clear my head (while improving my body) are getting me through a rougher than usual autumn.
Bugger. Definitely don’t see you as someone who would get a clot. Keep grinding brother
Hang in there, Mort. “It came to pass.”
I wonder if your lifts would increase if you let yourself gain a few kilograms?
They absolutely would.
The question is rather whether it would be worth it for Mort.
Seems like a good set up.
Looks like you might be suffering a bit from the seasonal slump man, hopefully christmas and a new program can help pull you out of it
