The Boxing Thread

NOOOOOOOO!!!
I swear to fucking god I’m going to stop paying attention to the heavyweight division. I just read that Toney tested positive for steroids on his post fight urine test. He has an appeal, but more than likely he’ll be stripped and they’ll give the belt back to Ruiz. ARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!

i’m not suprised at all about fat boy toney testing positive. he may not have ever been a natural middleweight since he probably walked around at 185-190 when not training, but he has muscled up a ton since he went cruiser/heavyweight. and he has been preaching his newfound love for lifting weights ever since he moved up. you could tell he was juicing a long time ago…just like many many others in the sport are.

tito and winky this saturday!!! possible fight of the year candidate…although i’ve heard castillo/corrales is already a shoe-in for that honour.

winky simply gave tito a boxing lesson! tito was exposed as a one dimensional guy and he basically quit in that fight (did he even put an effort in??).

after toney’s positive test for deca, he has been stripped of the title, and since his fight with huggy bear ruiz is now a no contest, john jab and grab ruiz gets the title back. god help us all!

well, the fight i’m most excited about is approaching fast. my boy kostya and ricky hatton. still sticking with kostya by ko inside 9. pressure fighters like hatton are made for tsyzu’s precision power punching.

Saw Buddy M. this morning in Vero Bch. He arrived @ “ELITE BOXING” around 8:10 in his great lookin’ Jeep smokin his pipe. Arturo & his trainer Teddy were coming @ 9 for his workout. Buddy said for sure Gatti will win the fight against Mayweather!

Buddy’s son James had a fight on Fri. & won by KO in 4th rd. He’s now 7-0! He’s in the same wt. division as Arturo, 140lbs. That’s my update for now!

ugh! KT lost last night. surely he had a serious injury to not come out for the 12th round in a fight that was very close to even.
either way, we’ll probably never know since he is too classy to make excuses.

Cut about KT losing. I didn’t get to see the fight as I was working. They’ll probably have a rematch.

Hatton seems like a nice bloke for a pom though.

I can’t believe he lost!! Now Gatti needs to win! I’m watching that one for sure! Should be a badass fight!

Yeah, I’m still looking forward to the Gatti fight. Don’t forget though, there’s another decent fight before then. The Glen Johnson - Antonio Tarver rematch is on the 18th on HBO. Jones Jr. has said he plans to come out of retirement and eventually fight the winner. I don’t know if that’s such a good idea for Jones, but I will say that Johnson - Tarver should be a good fight. My pick is Tarver by late round KO, but I don’t like Tarver much, so I’ll be cheering for Johnson. Buddy McGirt trains Tarver as well as Gatti if I remember correctly.

I just remembered… Ike Quartey will be in the 2nd fight of his comeback against Verno Phillips, on the Tarver/Johnson undercard. I’m very interested to see if he still has anything.

well, i’m still reeling from kostya’s loss. all i will say is although hatton won the fight and put in a tremendous effort, he is a damn dirty fighter. i would be interested to see a rematch with a ref that would enforce the rules and having the fight outside of manchester.

tarver/johnson 2 should be a good one. i’m biased on this since i think tarver is overrated and a loudmouth punk. you can’t help but like johnson. i like how he fights and i like his attitude, and since i hate tarver i’m picking johnson to win by decision. i personally had him ahead by 2 rounds in there first fight.

I never saw the fight, but I was reading a quote from Mayweather and he was going on about how dirty Hatton was. Was he really that bad? He also said he would never go to Manchester to fight Hatton. I guess that means they will never fight because Hatton’s people will never let him fight abroad until he’s already damaged goods. Why should a champion have to go and fight in someone else’s backyard anyway?

btw juice, I think I could stare at your avatar all day.

hatton was dirty IMO. clinching a lot with a couple low blows. KT is awesome against slick guys, but he fought the wrong fight against a pressure guy like hatton. plus the manchester crowd reacting to anything ricky did had to have some mental effect. i had hatton ahead by 2 points max going into the 12th. KT landed the better/cleaner shots but was outworked…he did look off.

a rematch would favour kostya IMO. he is a smart and adaptive fighter, when he sees the tapes of the fight he will see where hatton has glaring weaknesses. don’t know if that ass frank warren will allow it, although hatton did say he would honour a rematch.

yeah, the avatar rocks!

gatti and mayweather tomorrow night!

my brain is telling me that pretty boy floyd has way too much skill for gatti to handle and will cruise to a lopsided UD.

my heart hopes gatti knocks floyd the fuck out. which is not out of the question.

Damn! Can’t wait for tonights big big fight! Pussyfeather has yet to fight a champion like a Gatti! He’s in for a huge surprise!

Yeah, I can’t wait for this fight! I know that Mayweather is the more skilled and talented fighter, but I just have a feeling that Gatti finds a way to pull this one out.

Maybe I’m kidding myself but if Gatti goes to the body early, like he says he will, it could be a different fight. Another factor could be Mayweather’s hands, he has often injured them in fights and Gatti has a pretty hard head. The only way I see Floyd stopping Gatti is by cuts or if the ref stops it, I can’t see Aturo getting dropped by Mayweather. Gatti will be much bigger than Floyd by fight time and that size could make a big difference.

The Mayweather/ Gatti fight could be one of the best ones we have seen in awhile. If I was betting, I would put my money on Floyd. But Gatti has that certain “something” that allows him to stay with and beat just about anyone. I think he needs to fight a smart and strategic fight to win.

My Prediction

Mayweather TKO, 9th round

Wow! That was about the most one sided beating I’ve ever seen in a major title fight. Floyd DOMINATED Gatti from the opening bell. It’s funny, this was pretty much what I expected when the fight was originally announced, but as the fight grew nearer I started to convince myself that Gatti had a shot. I feel bad for Gatti, but at least he got a decent payday out of it. He says he wants to move up to 147 and I guess he could still have some good fights in him. He just needs to pick opponents who’s style fits him better. Gatti/Mayorga anyone?

I didn’t like the trash talking before the fight, but I think it’s fair to say Floyd made a strong case that he is #1 PFP.

Shit. I was really pulling for Gatti. Just got my copy of Gatti / Ward 1 this month and when you watch that fight, it looks like it would take a bullet to put Gatti down. Or Ward for that matter. Oh well. I do think Gatti has more in him, and he should be able to get a few more good paydays before fading. I hope HBO is showing the Gatti / feather fight this coming weekend.

Damn! I ordered the fight on PPV & thought it would be a closer fight than that! I felt bad for Gatti, it just seemed like he could do nothing, Mayweather is fast as hell! I can’t see anyone besting him in that division! What do you guys think? Gatti was down to just 1 meal a day coming into this fight! How will he do @ 147? His face was pretty bad, it really sucked to see him lose that bad.

And Mayweather’s skills are awesome, but his big mouth has got to go. I can’t stand shit like that!

AND! Chavez jr. looked damn good too! U guys see him??!! He impressed me!
