The Boxing Thread III

Joe “Unfair but infirm” Cortez blows.

Honestly, if I was Ricky Hatton I would have just walked across the ring and teep kicked Mayweather in the balls at the start because all that would happen is Cortez wagging his finger and threatening a warning.

If anyone’s interested, here’s a video of Floyd explaining defense and all. Good shit, not to mention… he actually seems like a decent guy in this vid.

I’m beginning to think that all the dickheadedness he puts off is just an image… and that one day, he’s going to be a ridiculous trainer. Look how he puts up with the retard interviewing him.

By the way… who else thinks that DeLaHoya is going to look sloppy tonight?

I’d like to think he knows better, but this could be an upset fight. He’s fighting a guy with nothing to lose.

I think there is the possibility for De la Hoya to look bad tonight. Really, unless he sends him down in a blaze of glory he is going to look bad because this is pretty weak even for a tune up.

And also, if a mod could move this thread to the combat sports forum that would be great!

I agree De La Hoya could look lackluster. I doubt there will be an upset though, as Forbes, though crafty, is just too small and doesn’t have enough pop. Which is precisely why Oscar picked him anyway.

[EDIT:] Well, that wasn’t much of a fight. It went about as expected, with De La Hoya getting a little workout against a much smaller, light-hitting opponent. Yawn.

De La Hoya put on a boxing clinic guys…I’d like to see his career go out with a bang! Maybe he has still got it?

I thought he looked good as well, but his opponent was picked for that purpose. I don’t think he could repeat that performance against Mayweather.

Agreed about the Forbes fight…the first fight with Mayweather was razor-thin in terms of the decision; had Oscar won the 12th round on 2 of the 3 cards it would’ve been a draw. So, he doesn’t have to do a that much different to change the outcome of the rematch.

Eh.

Mayweather’s gonna fuck’em up just like he did the first time.

It’s tough because Forbes is a tough cat, but I think DLH shoulda stopped him, not won on points. Wasn’t a close fight though, I agree.

Oh well.

I think the judges did DLH a favor giving him a split in the first Mayweather fight- he didn’t deserve it.

No disrespect but alot of people including myself saw the first fight with mayweather as pretty close…in fact oscar won alot of the early rounds…but to each his own.

I hear you, but when I rewatched the fight a month ago, I think by the fifth round Oscar started looking worse and worse… and the Compubox numbers reflect that.

He’s no dummy, and I’m sure he knew that when you throw flurries you can impress the judges and sway them whether or not anything lands… but I don’t recall him landing more than one clean shot on Floyd.

Nothin to be ashamed of… nobody’s ever landed a damn clean shot on Floyd… but I thought that the fight sucked for the hype it had, and Oscar just plain got outboxed.

Call me biased, because I really don’t like DLH at all, and I’m liking Floyd more and more… but even the first time I watched it I knew DLH was getting ourperformed on all levels.

Gawd I hate Floyd. His matches are tedious and always result in plenty of running. I can feel my own fat burn as he “fights.”

Plus I think I’ve seen plenty of clean shots land on Floyd just not tons back to back in the same match(s) obviously. Of course what is “clean” and what is “intended” can be debated forever.

Antonio Margarito is who I like to watch whether he is considered good or not. His “body shot knockouts” are great. I’m not saying you can’t like Floyd but gawd I personally hate his matches.

I thought Floyd won it pretty clear the first time against DLH. I don’t see things going different this time. Obviously another big payday for both, but it won’t come from my pocket this time.

Mabuhay Manny.

And roll on Nate C, Baby Bull and Valero…

Just saw the Pacman fight…awesome display…Him against ricky would be the most crazy exciting fight I can imagine outside of ricky v cotto.

OMC

Pacquiao was awesome.

I think the Hatton fight would be the big event fight but not the best fight. Ricky is a good fighter but he holds alot.

I think a fight with Valero would be exciting. I get to see Valero fight on tv here. All offense, big, strong with power and fast hands.

Anyone watching the Cotto vs Margarito fight on the 26th? Fireworks guaranteed in this fight.

Absolutely! This fight will make new fans of boxing, so get everyone you can to watch it.

Irish,
What do you make of this?

Will it affect Hatton much?
