haha, your right!!! but in my own defence, one of the worst scuffles i got into as a bouncer in my younger days, was with a 6-5 250lb defensive end for the auburn tigers.
i took quite a beating, but i held my own and ended up on top of him with a choke hold on when the cops broke it up.
I haven’t followed boxing for very long - 7-8 years at most - but I can’t agree with FightingIrish26.
I don’t see as sloppy or lumbering any of the top 10 fighters in the HW division, maybe Valuev being the exception. The Klitschko brothers, Povetkin, Chagaev are all skilled boxers, and the only complain I have about the division is the lack of era-defining champion like Ali or Lewis.
The fact that most of them were successful at the amateur level and spent a lot of time competing with the vests on, have surely affected their boxing style, it seems in a way that the American public doesn’t favor. But, IMHO, this doesn’t mean we are facing division without talent or depth.
P.S. HT, it’s nice to see you back here - too many veterans stopped posting recently.
first of ll, thanks for the kind words, gld to be here.
i agree, very well said, as far as what i see in the heavies. big, in shape, skilled, good amateur pedigree, what is not to like about the top heavyweights?
no disrespect to irish, who i have a lot of respect for, i think it is just fashionable, or the “in thing to do” is to bash the heavyweight division these days.

i guess it is all about the mystique of combat sports, i find it interesting because these guys seem like such bad-asses to me.
but i am sorry, there is nothing too “bad-ass” to me about a 5-4 135lb guy. though i may be very very wrong, in a real life situation, not a controlled sporting environment, these little guys dont seem to threatening to me.
for example, i got in a scuffle a LONG time ago with a guy who i did not know at the time was a armed forces welterweight boxing champion. now, welterweight was his fighting weight, i doubt he was that small when we got into it.
long story short, i weight about 260lbs at the time, and he sucker punched me while i was not even looking at him. he caught me square in the mush, breaking my nose. now not only did he NOT knock me out, he did not even knock me down. everything went “white” for a second or two, then my head cleared and i took off after him.after eating a couple of more jabs to the top of my head, i got him cornered, slammed him on the ground and pinned him there until the crowd broke us up.

Still haven’t watched Marquez v Diaz yet. But I am watching Chris John v Rocky Juarez.
You need to get on that- unless Pacqiao-Hatton lives up to all the hype, it’s going to be hard to beat.
I don’t know if you know how it ends, but man it’s beautiful.[/quote]
Oh shit, man, irish I have just watched the end of RD2, I think I’m going to wet myself! Fuck, this is boxing, this is why we love boxing, did I say this is why WE FUCKING LOVE BOXING???!!!
aw hell I love manny, I mean my girl from PI, half my friends from there too but no way, next time they fight (fingers crossed!) it’s settled - I’m rooting for Juan, even if it gets me killed!
watched the fight on espn this afternoon, V.K. looked really old in this fight. JCG was busy the first 2.5 rounds, making VK move a bit, and boy did his legs look shaky. 2 surgeries on one knee and 1 one the other i think? plus many years as a pro kickboxer before he started pro boxing?
ugh, he needs to retire before he has to pull out of ANOTHER fight with an injury during camp, or we see him fold his leg back during an actual fight.
to his credit though, he made a world class cruiser-weight look like a fish out of water, ko 9nth, should have been stopped in the 7thg though.
Definitely agree on the part about Vitali looking a bit shaky on his feet. Shouldn’t be that much of a problem against Valuev, though, which seems to be his next goal.
I think Gomez got the first round only, but he fought good, especially for weighing on the fat side of 230.
I don’t know how much of Vitali’s shakiness was due to the knee injuries, but I would guess a lot. Nevertheless, I think he still has some fights in him.
like i said, he gave gomez a beating, eye swelling after 2nd round, whole face bloody swollen mess after 9. but he looked stiff legged, when he had to hustle he looked wobble to me. maybe it was just me, i dunno.
Anyone watch Jones jr last night? Jones won but man he doesn’t look like he used to…this must be what it was like to watch Ali at the end of his career.
Vitali was breathing out his mouth early, too. He still laid down an epic beating, but it was obvious he’s battle worn. I still like the guy, though. He’s less technically proficient than Wlad but makes up for it with with basketball sized nuts.
IMHO, Vitali’s better chin could make more difference than Wladimir’s better 1-2 & left hooks, because I don’t see big disparity between the skills they have shown.
But he didn’t look well physically that fight, which surprised me - against Peter he was better.
I guess you could say his absence from the sport is catching with him, but you could also say it’s wear and tear… Well, 3-4 more bouts and he can go back to borderline gay modeling, as far as I’m concerned
this is a good article, in which sums up my feeling of many, many, so called “boxing experts” total faggotry when it comes to talking about the heavyweight division.
