The Boxing Thread III

We just need to mash together Vitali’s guts, chin, and strength with Wlad’s punching skill and foot work and we’d have an all time great. Vitali still looks like a giant robot in the ring.
You are so right. That combo would be a brutal force.
RJJ did put Trinidad down twice, once with a stiff jab and once with a hook to the temple.

I’m hoping the same as you…
I should have implicitly stated TKO, but I see what you mean… maybe he still has it. If he knocks Calzaghe down for the count there’ll be some celebrations in the Duffy house. Neighbours gonna see me naked again.

Holy crap! I never would have dreamed such an easy win for Hopkins. I didn’t see it but followed it online and it sounded very one-sided. The scores were lopsided.
B-Hop is AMAZING. He should retire in full glory now.

Looks lie we’re going to have to re-define our opinions based on who’s winning… not who’s exciting.

Anyone pining for Pavlik-Calzaghe better get their heads checked now. Love him or hate him Joe is clearly several notches above everyone else in that weight category. Pavlik had nothing for B-Hop.

“I TOLD YOU I don’t lose to no motherfuckin’ white boys”.

It’s as good as any loss Pavlik can receive. He lost to someone coming down from a heavier weight and a respected veteran, and he still has his belts. A good learning experience overall, I hope.

Its quite indicative of the state of boxing today when an aged Hopkins beats up one of “tomorrow’s brightest stars”.

umm, where do i start? first, i wonder who it was that said the physical advantages that made Pavlik a freak at middleweight would dissapear as he moved up in weight classes? LOL.

also, a 43 year old vetran coming off 2 losses out of his last three fights DEMOLISHES the top current middleweight.

i guess that means the middleweight division is shit, and full of bums huh? same logic works for the heavyweights hmmm?

Just saw the fight, ultimate respect to popkins.

Man it feels good to be half Welsh…

So “King Arthur” won after the sixth round against Raoul Marquez. Marquez’ corner threw the towel, as their fighter ate too many strong hands.
I hope he will clash with Pavlik next year, I dimly recall that being a possible bout.

I posted this over on the JC-RJJ thread someone created, but here goes:

If you didn’t see the fight, Calzaghe won a lopsided decision. He had to get off the deck to do it, but once he established himself, it was a one-sided fight.

Yet again, this farce exemplifies all that is wrong with boxing. This is a matchup that should have happened years ago. De la Hoya-Pacquiao is the next high-dollar turd that will be foisted upon the public.

Credit to Calzaghe, he did what he had to do, but RJJ is a shot shell of his former self.

EDIT: I should add for those who didn’t see it, Jones had Calzaghe down in the first and rather hurt, but he couldn’t finish him. In Roy’s prime, the fight would have been over.

And speaking of retreads, Hasim Rahman has just signed to fight Wlad Klitschko. Boy there’s one I can’t wait to see. /sarcasm.

I’d really like to see that one. Abraham is an entertaining fighter and I think he’s as ready as he ever will be to step in the ring with some of the big names.

The end of the fight yesterday against Marquez was disappointing. I understand that the guy is 37 with quite a career to look back upon, has kids and doesn’t want to get beaten up, but I would have been pissed if I’d been in the audience and payed for tickets.

I believe there is a special hell for boxing promoters.

Yep, he’s the most entertaining " " “german” " " (clenches teeth) fighter we have by far. Remember the fight he broke his chin viciously and won?

The (half?)serbian fighter that followed was also promising. And he wasn’t fighting a can. Wolke has great hopes for that one, whatshisname.

Yes, against Miranda. Great display of heart and willpower.

Marco Huck?

Haven’t heard of him before.

With the Inter-Continental, though, it seems to be only a matter of time until he gets a shot at either Cunningham or Adamek.

No talk of the Haye fight? What madness is this?

Here’s my take…

Haye won convincingly and was definately dominant enough to have earned a shot at the heavyweight title. Nevertheless he seemed overly defensive, occasionaly off-balance and did not make use of the numerous oppotunities that were thrown at him by a far inferior opponent.

I think that during the fight he was possibly overly concerned with looking stylish and untouchable (he was told that he had to look impressive) and this may have detracted from his overall performance. Regardless, my confidance in him as a sure thing for world champion is slightly shaken.

Still, it’s a delight to watch a fight where the whole thing can be over in the blink of an eye, and it would be nice to have a champion that looked like a boxer.
