Peter sucked so much he made Vitali look good.
Yeah it was quite a shitty title defense.
Peters did zilch,; he lost every fuckin round and then had to give up.
Boxing probably needs [edit: one or two two divisions above heavyweight]
The size difference is getting out of control. If you’re 6ft1", you’re just too small for a heavyweight nowadays.
whateve guys!!!
sam peter granted, is a crude brawler, but he has the power and chin to do well against most of the top heavies right now. the reason he looked so bad is because of who he was fighting last night. klit was a size and style mismatch for him.
Yeah- Peter looked a little sluggish. He reminded me of one of those drugged up Lions that you see lying around at the zoo licking itself.
David Haye is the next great heavyweight.
Haye vs Barrett on November 15.

Hahah. I don’t watch heavyweights… or, I’ll watch it if it’s on, but I never make a point to.
The great ones are gone. Klitscho could be one of the all time greats except he’s got a glass jaw and won’t pull the trigger because of it.
And now, EVander is getting another title shot at 132 years old.
Pathetic.[/quote]
Fighters like Wladimir Klitschko give the heavyweights a bad name. He’s too boring and way too cautious. Somebody needs to knock him out. Nobody wants to pay to see a Wladimir Klitschko fight.
sorry, it is the mystique of the heavyweights. margarito and paul williams and kelly pavlik are studs for sure, but a good super heavy would CRUSH them in the ring. all at once, lol. i like watching the big guys fight, sorry, personality defect of mine i guess.
I think we all agree too much on the subject of heavyweights. Thoughts on pavlik, hopkins, calslappy and roy jones?
Did anyone see that big black punching bag Vitali was hitting on HBO? I thought it was odd they put a workout on TV.

Pavlik vs. Hopkins-
I’m completely unsure of this fight.
On the one hand, I can see Kelly seperating himself enough to land some heavy right hands that could really hurt the 43 year old BHop. I could see it being stopped due to him taking a beating at the hands of a guy who’s 15 years younger and a huge puncher.
On the other hand, I could see BHop doing what he does best- making this fight horribly ugly, tying up, headbutting, faking low blows, and timing up Kelly’s very fundamental fighting style to disrupt him. The odds are is that Pavlik is not going to land a flush shot on BHop- he’s too damn smart to let that happen. On top of that, he’s not only a 160 lb. fighter. He’s fought, and taken shots from, some of the best in the game, and at heavier weights. He’s got a great chin, and never been knocked down.
However, he won’t be able to keep up with Kelly’s workrate, and Kelly will score alot as the fight goes on and BHop inevitably stops throwing punches.
Irish’s Prediction: Kelly Pavlik UD

+1. This fight makes me nervous. A shit fight for Pavlik to take at this point, but really due to circumstances it was all that was available.
Whoa, triple post.
But RJJ-Calzaghe is lame. China Hands Joe will slap him around and make him look the old man he is for 12 rounds.

I like RJJ by Knockout. I can’t wait for this fight.
I’m acutally shocked people are picking RJJ. I just don’t see the case at all, and I suspect there is some sentamentalism for the RJJ of old tainting your outlook. Unless Joe comes in really shitty shape there is no reason he shouldn’t mop the ring with him.

RJJ is one of my top 10 favorite fighters of all time- so you might have a point.
I know he’s slowed down- but I think that he’s fast enough to land some hard shots to Calzaghe’s chin. And I doubt that Calzaghe has ever been hit by anybody with Jones’ power.
I don’t really think Jones has enough left to beat Calzhage.
I don’t see a KO in this fight, so it goes to a decision.
Chad Dawson looked really good against Tarver. Dawson has technique, skill and very quick hands. Definitely more entertaining than any HW.
Wow, I travel for a few days and this thread blows up. Good to see boxing talk alive.
Peter-Klit… I was hoping to see an in-shape, motivated Peter put some heat on Vitaly, but instead it was the same, fat douchebag Peter as usual. I’m not a Vitaly fan but he was very impressive, especially considering the length of his layoff. The man may not be the most exciting fighter, but I’d rather watch him than his timid younger brother any day. Vitaly, fighting like that will be very difficult to beat. He’s so big, punches hard and is very durable.
I know the Klits will never fight each other, but they don’t have to … Vitaly would kill his little brother.
Peter is done. He can’t match up against bigger heavys and he doesn’t have the work ethic or will to be a champion.
Dawson did not disappoint. He put on a good show like I expected. Tarver is one tough old SOB. He fought well but youth and speed were served. Love those Dawson shots to the body. Can’t wait to see him again.
Upcoming fights:
RJJ-Calzaghe … I’ve always been a huge RJJ fan, but I have to agree with the guys on here that say Joe should win.
A tiny part of me is hoping Roy can pull the magic out of that hat for one last great effort andride off in to the sunset, but if I were putting money on it, my head would tell me to bet on Joe. I’ve been plenty critical of Calzaghe in past threads, but one thing about him, he always has an excellent game plan and stays within himself. He showed it against Kessler, Lacy and Hopkins … fighting just the right fight to come out victorious. He’ll be well prepared and unless Roy recaptures, ever so briefly, the fountain of youth, Joe should win a decision.
Hopkins-Pavlik … Fightin Irish said it best. Not much to add. Could be an ugly fight with youth, power and hunger coming out on top over an aging warrior.

With a name like heavythrower, how could you not like the HWs? lol.
I for one would love to see the heavys emerge again as the marquis division with the prestige of old, but until someone comes along and cleans up the division, becomes the undisputed champ, it’s not gonna happen.
We just need to mash together Vitali’s guts, chin, and strength with Wlad’s punching skill and foot work and we’d have an all time great. Vitali still looks like a giant robot in the ring.
I so badly want calzaghe stopped. I mean, I want him put down seriously badly. I hear the british talking about him like one of the greats and I want him mangled…
But I don’t think it’s going to happen. For one thing, Enzo Calzaghe is not stupid. I really can’t see him giving Joe a fight that Joe isn’t going to win. He never has, and he’s not going to start now. I would go so far as to say that he arranged the Lockett fight simply to test Pavlik’s skill in comparison to his son’s.
Secondly, I can’t see Roy Jones putting the Slap-man down. Calzaghe has never been knocked out and Jones hasn’t put a man on the canvas since the WW2. Roy Jones is a real ring craftsman and totally unique in his abilities but I think that age is going to get him. I do, however, expect it to be a close fight.
I think Hopkins is set to lose another one; but its going to be long and ugly. Hopkins could fight into his fifties and still be a bitch to fight. He has more tricks up his sleeve than a crack-whore and more street smarts than the artful dodger. Kelly won’t forget this one in a hurry
