The Bodybuilder Bunker

Any of you guys mega doing BCAA? I’m up around 25-30 grams during workout, plus 15 grams after workout. That, in combination with a high intensity, low volume BB routine and a bit of cardio is working wonders for me right now.

Ok, heres something.

Big guys, im talking guys who have got to 230ish + while being fairly lean, not sporting a six pack, but i think ya know what i mean.

If any of your are out there, do you think there is any place in your training for bodyweight exercises ?

I think we can agree that the whole Chins good, Lat pulldown bad arguement is shit, they both have their place.

But about things like pushups, inverted rows,bw dips and chins… use them with attached weight, use then to burn out after already fatigued, or have you left them in the past completely.

I for one did hand stand pushups for the first time since i gained about 35-40 pounds today, and they certainly kicked my ass, and i see that they could have a place in my training in the future, even it takes a set or two to get the balance right again.

Hand Stand push ups are in a league of their own as far as BW exercises are concered really. They are so much harder than BW squats or regular push ups and can actually give you a decent workout. Of course you do have to find a wall, flip yourself upside down, and the blood is rushing to your head… I’d rather stick with military presses myself.

Not a bad thing to do on vacation or something though.

I only did them cuz the new gym closed early today, i would much rather press some heavy iron any day.

About the BCAAs, i used them a couple years back, but i really think that i was in a stage where i wasn’t ready to use them, im sure they didnt hurt my progress any, but im guess i could get a lot more out of using them now.

I’ll most likely use them again later this year.

doing something close to you minus the cardio. i’m in a ‘bulk’ i guess you could say. I am sipping a carb drink during a workout and mega dosing the bcaa…I’m liking it. Kind of experimenting with fueling the body and muscle during a workout. I posted a thread in tcell a while back talking about the pump and utilizing it to my advantage to shuttle nutrients. I kind of have my own research going with my body lol. It’s either that or the 4800 cals a day and 300g of protein, but either way I’m steady building strength and weight. lol

Right, everything works in combination with each other too. The BCAA’s wouldnt do a damn thing if you didnt eat the 5K, but you might not get as good of results if you didnt take the BCAA.

Given the choice between food and BCAA, always go with food. But it does seem like the BCAA’s are the icing on the cake.

The bcaa + carb (dextrose, waxy maize, just my flavor at the time, currently vitargo lol) this gives me a great workout .vs. just water.

I was worried that consuming soo many carbs during a workout that I’d feel bloated, lazy, etc because of being full and my insulin and blood sugar levels being all out of wack. lol

So far no problems, just benefits. I’m training low volume and heavy i’ll add as well.

I totally agree with the food thing. I tell people all the time that even if you are taking aas, without food you still won’t grow.

I’m shooting for 220-230 come december, so we will see

Never taken BCAA’s…they seemed a tad too expensive, I’d rather stick with solid food, at least for now.

DG, what are you weighing in at currently? Good luck hitting 220-230 by december.

Ok, heres something that got me thinking.

Partial range movements for bodybuilders. Is there a reason why a healthy jointed bodybuilder should do box sqauts, rack dead lifts, board presses, etc.

Do you see this as a way to use more weight, there for loading the muscle with more, or just as a way to load more weight for the sake of lifting more with a smaller range of motion ?

I personally have used box squats to shock some new growth in my legs, and have used partial range of motion bench presses to help with triceps growth.

Any partial range of motion exercises that you take advantage of ?

Johnnie Jackson and Branch Warren come to mind. They use partial movements specially for pressing; pretty heavy weights (Johnnie powerlifts too), and moderate to high reps with those weights. That combination sounds like a good one to get a high amount of work equation on a certain muscle group. On pressing movements the lockout position is avoided to involve less tricep and more chest/shoulder work.

That could work for other muscle groups; reducing the range of motion to the spot where the trained muscle is used the most , and taking advantage of that reduced ROM to increase load/reps.

Partial ROM is useful on some exercises, like DB flies or presses, because as you get further away from your chest your triceps kick in more or the degree of rotation is not stimulating the chest any more.

Some shoulder exercises might also benefit, but for the most part full ROM should be used for most exercises I think.

You think Favre will compete? I wonder how he trains.

I’m just shy of 210 with all abs still…

Well needed BUMP. I made this thread to put some logic back into the Bodybuilding Forum, and I think this time is better than ever to bring it back for the newer guys.

Thankfully Matt-TC&Co. made the Alpha, but this is now for the guys/gals not in there.

To start it off, to get bigger arms you need to do DIRECT work and EAT. Also, what’s going on in the bodybuilding world? I haven’t been paying attention since Olympia.

this thread > T-Cell Alpha, there would be no Alpha if it wasnt for this.

i cant believe it died though, so sad.

Well, let’s revive it.

Anyone wanting to post some BB news? I haven’t checked anything since the last O either…

Well, since the old days of having a bunch of grand prix shows in europe after the Olympia is over, there really hasn’t been much pro bb news. The only European show this year was in Romania. Dexter won easily.

There is supposedly a new pro show next year called the world cup in germany. The money 100,000 to win, and also the comeback of Ronnie. Dudes been saying hes going to do that, and hes been kicking around the idea of the arnold as well. Who knows though.

Could be all hype. There was supposed to be a japaneese pro show this year that got cancelled, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it didn’t happen.

Nothing really going on CC that i’ve heard. After the O things quiet down for a bit… I love this thread. I don’t post a lot, but this one is always a gemm

damn, last post didnt work. Ya, after the O there is little going on except guest posing.

i dont follow Pro bodybuilding, it just doesnt appeal to me to watch them pose n stuff. like i know who a lot of the top guys are but i dont really care about how they place.

anyway to give this some sort of consistency, what are you guys doing for legs right now thats WORKING?

personally ive been stickin to doing just the Hammer Strength leg press for my whole quad workout (minus leg exts obv) and ive been blasting through it each week, continuously adding weight and reps.

this session i added 20 pounds and 3 reps to my first heavy set. shit was great.

i also added 20 pounds to my all out 20-rep set and got to a higher rep than last time before i had to take my first rest

i also moved up 1 stack on the leg-curl and kept the reps the same from last week.

being that im tall (6’ft) my legs are the things i have the most room for improvement on. my arms were pretty bad for a while too but theyre starting to get up there now.

For me-and I’m sure many can agree-is to stay simplistic with legs to produce the most results. For example, I have always done multiple sets with a varied rep range (e.g. 5-6 sets of 4-20 reps) SQUATTING. I can go ass to calves, but those who can’t I would recommend to go as deep as possible (to build nice teardrops).

Don’t forget about the back of the legs. You cannot beat Stiff-Legged Deadlifts and Leg Curls.

My legs went from 20" to 25.25" (at 5’6", and still growing).
