Here’s what Trey looked like this weekend for those wondering.
I wouldn’t have guest posed looking like that…no offense to anybody. It’s like the same when ronnie would do it when he was fat and happy in his off season. lol Sheer mass factor yes, but to me I’m not impressed at all with this.

Luckily in the amateur rank it seems like it is for the MOST part the best guy on stage winning. I don’t see Trey as a favorite at either show to be honest given his back width he wasn’t able to bring up.
Watch out for my man Franco Datillo to turn some heads at Nationals though…
245 and shredded will beat 280 and watery+some fat any day.
Bulldog is an absolute monster. Im excited to see how he places.

What do you mean? Just look at how wide that back is!

Franco’s such a good guy. I’m really pulling for him.
Here’s a question for you guys that have competed or dieted down to a low level of bodyfat:
A few weeks ago I made the decision that as a present to myself for 28th I was going to in my best condition ever. I’ve always worked out, but never took anything to that next level. So, after mapping out my nutrition and training strategy on Sunday I decided to begin.
Now, my birthday is in Sep so this gives me 16 weeks to get down to my goal of 5% bodyfat and honestly if I came out looking like Dirty I’d be very pleased with the results.
I had my bodyfat done with a seven point caliper test, but my GF did it and it came out to 10%. Yes, that’s me in my avatar and that’s from this Sunday. Not 10%, but let’s say 14% for the sake of my fragile ego.
So after all this rambling my question is this: How to you handle the grind? What do you do when week 10 comes along and all you want to do is hang out at the lake with your alcoholic buddies? What keeps you motivated and what keeps you sane?

How does that work ???
I seen guys doing it, seems fucking dangerous, just your fingertips holding it.
You reccomend it that way ?
Imagine you’re doing a clean, you know how you put your elbows up at the end of the exercise. Well, try resting the bar sort of near the front part of your neck, with your fingertips supporting the bar but your arms in an end-of-clean fashion. It should feel a little awkward on your throat and breathing at first, but you’ll get use to it. The worst part, depending on your wrist flexibilitye , is the pain you’ll probably feel in your wrists initially. I just recently switched to this method of front squats and it feels a lot safer, and a lot easier to keep good form.
I’ve been really shoveling back the food postworkout. I really liked it when Cy Wilson used to post here and he advocated something like this in one of his articles. Does anyone else do this, and how do you do it/how is it working for you?

Appreciate the advice.
It’s a passion man. Somehow my desire for bodybuilding has outgrown the “give-in factor” and I love it more than drinking with my buddies. You can still go to the lake just keep it in a healthy manner. People say bodybuilders have no life and that’s true to an extent. I still have a very social life but instead of beer I may have a monster or something to get me energized and feeling like partying. lol
But the answer to your question about the grind. It comes from within…that’s the best way I can describe it. It’s a passion that I just have I don’t know how to describe it.

Another question:
My front squat is getting up there with my back squat BUT holding the weight in place is becoming HARD to do.
I used the hands crossed mode, with elbows up as far as possible, but when i start to tire the bar starts sliding down…
Anything i can do to improve it ?
I had a problem with this for a while when the weight started going up. I just switched to holding it in my fingertips. The pain is not all that bad.

I had the same problem until recently with front squats. My shoulders hurt like hell for days after trying to put any appreciable weight on the bar with the crossed arm method; and I didn’t have the flexibility in my wrists to hold it the other way.
Then my friend and training partner brought this book into the gym that was written by some Dos Remedios CSCS guy. In it was a new idea of how to ‘hold’ the weight. I now wrap wrist straps around the bar like a couple of ‘handles’…with my hands wrapped in the tail ends of the straps, I can easily hold the bar and keep the load from becoming painful to the delts. With this method I’ve recently upped my front squat weight by 100#

Yea I tried that method it just felt weird to me. But, it is an individual thing, so whatever works. By the way Robert dos Remedios was the 2006 strength coach of the year, he knows his shit.
New topic for Bb bench pressers, my question is on bar placement. For optimal chest stimulation is it best to bring the bar down to just below the nipple line, above or closer to the clavicle? All input is welcomed. Just to let you know, I’ve tried all three ways.
Just based on feel I would have to say that bringing the bar down just above (an inch or so) the nipple line should give the best results. As with most things BB it’s going to be highly individualistic, but that placement is where I “feel” it the most.

Im not sure if anybody else noticed this, but Don Long was on the list for competing in the NOC.
Anybody have any thoughts on this ?
They guys got somebody elses kidney in him, i didnt think id ever see him back on stage.
And i dont think Brewer’s gonna be quite ready for that contest.
I think it’s unwise and NOT worth it if Don competes.
Trey has made drastic changes since 2-3 weeks ago but I still hold my doubts whether he can get into good condition for Jr. Nationals. USA’s yes, Nationals I don’t think so.
Qaash, for me it totally depends… if i am on a smith incline, i like to have it come down to my clavicles… i get a real nice stretch feeling that way… i like it alot.
Normal Incline, i bring the bar to about nipple level.
If benching au naturel, i lower the bar to low pec line. Always. I actually try to push it kinda “south” as i push it upwards, (is this bad form??!!)
If i am on the Decline, i like to bring the bar somewhere between mid pec and clavs… i get a good stretch that way and i feel it more - for me that exercise has a “no feel” factor i don’t like… its all triceps if i do it the standard, smaller ROM way.

Personally, when I go much higher than the nipple line I start using my anterior deltoids too much. For optimal chest STIMULATION, I’d put it a bit below the nipples, but for maximum output, I bring it down essentially right over the nips.
There were entirely too many nipples in that response.
