Personally, when I go much higher than the nipple line I start using my anterior deltoids too much. For optimal chest STIMULATION, I’d put it a bit below the nipples, but for maximum output, I bring it down essentially right over the nips.

There were entirely too many nipples in that response.
Hhahaaha, it’s all good…we take it in context

I got hungry while reading this thread and bought a whole chicken. Thank you all.

NEW DISCUSSION TOPIC!

I’ve always wanted to ask someone with impressive results…“HOW MUCH CHEAT IS TOO MUCH?” I’ve always believed in mastering a weight before moving up…so I don’t cheat my lifts up except maybe for a last rep in order to do a forced negative to finish off a set.

Now my methods seem to be working for me; but I wonder if I incorporated some supermaximal loads and did ‘cheat’ sets if I would progress even faster???

I’ve seen several vids of top pro bodybuilders like Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman swinging their weights like crazy instead of squeezing each rep out…and you can’t deny their results even if they are likely steroid enhanced. [BTW I don’t use gear at all]

So how bout it? Again, I’m really interested in the views of people who’ve actually attained an IMPRESSIVE PHYSIQUE…If you’ve read this, or believe that, but haven’t gotten the results, your opinions are just theories.

@seahag: I only use cheating with lat pulldowns, barbell curls, and sometimes rows with an excessive lean and force back. Other than that I don’t think it’s worth it. I’ve only “cheated” to bust strength and muscle plateus.

@Quash: I go with what’s comfortable. I honestly don’t know where I come down to exactly :stuck_out_tongue: lol I’ll check tomorrow is chest day.

@Scott: I agree with you about Don Long but I believe that it all comes down to how much he loves the sport.
I have a genetic disease in my family called polysistic kidneys. Your kidneys fail due to “tumor-like” growth all over them causing failure. Luckily no stones to pass  My dad had the disease and had the transplant and there is a 50% chance I may have the same disease.

I told you that story to tell you that even a kidney transplant wouldn’t stop me from bodybuilding even if bodybuilding cut my life a little more short or it was more dangerous. I’d rather be dead than not compete if I had the physique to compete. So maybe that’s where Long is? I saw some pics of him in musclemag a while back and he was looking damn good lol so Idk…

Gerdy

I DID 100KGS FOR MY FRONT SQUAT THIS EVENING.

that is all, its a big deal to me

Here’s a question for you guys that have competed or dieted down to a low level of bodyfat:

A few weeks ago I made the decision that as a present to myself for 28th I was going to in my best condition ever. I’ve always worked out, but never took anything to that next level. So, after mapping out my nutrition and training strategy on Sunday I decided to begin.

Now, my birthday is in Sep so this gives me 16 weeks to get down to my goal of 5% bodyfat and honestly if I came out looking like Dirty I’d be very pleased with the results.

I had my bodyfat done with a seven point caliper test, but my GF did it and it came out to 10%. Yes, that’s me in my avatar and that’s from this Sunday. Not 10%, but let’s say 14% for the sake of my fragile ego.

So after all this rambling my question is this: How to you handle the grind? What do you do when week 10 comes along and all you want to do is hang out at the lake with your alcoholic buddies? What keeps you motivated and what keeps you sane?

Appreciate the advice.
Aint nothing to it but to do it. You have to establish new habits plain and simple. It used to be hard for me to eat 6 meals a day… Now its just what I do naturally. It used to be hard to wake up early and cook breakfast, now its just what I do. Used to be hard to eat clean day in and out while dieting, now its just what I do.

It will be hard to break habits initially(like drinking at the lake and whatnot) but eventually you will no longer care for these things. Dont get me wrong, you can definitely enjoy yourself every once in a while (even while cutting) but you will simply not care for this type of thing after a while.

Thats been my experience at least. I dont feel like I’m missing out of anything if im not eating cake and ice cream at everyones birthday party.

I’m at the point where everything is down to results. “The grind” is not really something I experience… Just wake up and do what you need to do to get the results you want. You wanna get shredded? (and 5% is shredded by the way) Wake up… Eat your meals, do your cardio, do your weight training, sleep and repeat. Nothing else to it.

Also, establish a goal, write it down and post it several places like your car, your mirror, your fridge. “I will reach 5% body fat by Day/Month” This will help you in driving past fast food joints, liquor marts, and might even help you avoid drinking at the lake.

And after you reach 5% body fat give yourself a reward. It doesnt have to be food or beer or something like that, but knowing that you have a prize at the end can make it easier to get there. Also, remember that whatever it took to get to 5% is what it will take to maintain it…

So if you drop 2 hours of cardio from your week and increase your calories you can expect a little weight gain as well.

Let us know how you are doing. We will keep you on track. Dont let the bunker down.

Also is it possible to post pics somewhere to be reviewed by people who know what they are on about.
One look at “Rate My Physique” is after weirding me out with all the freaks posting their pictures.

What about a thread for it in T-Cell Alpha? You’d need one guy with access to post your pics, so you essentially have to be “approved” to be serious enough to deserve the feedback, and only experienced people could reply. No “ratings” and there might be some overlap (just like in this thread) but I think it would be worth it.

What do you guys think? Especially those of you with access.

You’re only allowed to thank them if you eat it all.

I sure will. I’m using my avatar for progress pics so we can watch me go from talking the talk to walking the walk.

I dont like that idea. Post them in physique and performance photos and ask for criticism/advice.

i agree with stronghold for once, i dont want this thread turning into a slideshow.

let first put you in my shoes for where my perspective comes from, im 20 years old i eat whatever the fuck i want, like Wendy’s PWO because of how fast my metabolism is and having a social life at my age is crucial.

ok, 10 weeks? thats how long youve been training? 10 weeks is nothing dude, a couple years is nothing, 5,10,15,20 thats when stuff starts getting more serious.
a lot of mistakes that begginers make is sucking up this bodybuilding lifestyle for everything its worth and they start to isolate themselves from people and pick up stupid diets that are anti-social. just because you go to the gym 4x a week doesnt mean you cant go to a fucking lake dude. i do everything a regular person does, regular people go to the gym too they just dont do what i do and they dont eat as much as me. they ride elipitcal machines and eat skittles.

as far as keeping sane and motivated, haha you cant be sane and do this shit longterm dude. you have to be a different kind of mentality, you have to be totally fucking out of it and dedicated. like dude i have to walk or take a bus to my gym but i get there and theres thing that it was seized by the middlesex sheriff so im like having a panic attack like a fiend whos dealer got locked up and im looking for that next hit you know, so what i do is walk all the way over to a Ballys because i need that shit or it will haunt me. but really man you need to get your mentality right and just realize you can still have fun, whats the point in doing something if it makes you a total fucking hermit?

I second Stronghold.

The only way I would critique a physique in the alpha is if they are of a high level amateur caliber or a professional bodybuilder. Other than that I would just tell everybody to build more muscle everywhere.

I think there is only a few members on tnation that have the ability to ask for criticism of their physiques. Those being like prisoner, etc. Most people who could ask for a critique have more knowledge than the majority here…lol

Gerdy’s opinion is post in the physique and performance photos.

Gerdy

Yeah, actually I think you’re right. Anyone who would be at that level would be in T-Cell Alpha themselves already.

Physique and Performance photos does seem to be a little more serious IMHO then RMP, so I would use that.

Agreed.

Even better, keep them in yor profile and post pictures when you make significant progress.

Im not sure if anybody else noticed this, but Don Long was on the list for competing in the NOC.

Anybody have any thoughts on this ?

They guys got somebody elses kidney in him, i didnt think id ever see him back on stage.

Holy crap what’s up buddy! Long time no…post lol.

Yeah I noticed Don on the list too. I haven’t looked much into it though.

Along these lines, is there anyone who doesn’t bench?

I’m shoulder dominant and have been working to break away from that because I really feel it in my shoulders when I bench.

The past half year or so, I’ve been making pretty good gains using dumbbells only (well, mostly) for inc/dec/flat presses. I can make that mind connection more with DBs than the bar.

If you don’t bench, were you able to make gains in weight/size?

Do you mean just straight flat-benching, or do you include incline and decline barbell benching in the discussion? If not, and you’re just talking about flat barbell, I’m really not a big fan.

I think it can be a good indicator of how your total upper body strength is coming along, but I think as far as building mass, dumbbell benching is far superior to barbell. If I’m doing dumbbells, I also get a lot more out of it if I don’t lock out, whereas barbells I always feel inclined to go ahead and lockout.

I dumped benching a while ago in favour of dumbbells, hs presses and even incline smith machine presses.

I found my barbell benching improved moreso from other work rather than the barbell benching itself.
