Is Kai Greene gonna show up at the Olympia?

I believe he’s qualified via The Arnold and his girl, Dayana Cadeau said he was prepping for it but is doing the New York Pro first.

Hopefully, I love watch that guy pose. It’s so unique, except his manthong pulled right up his crack… Other than that, I’m a fan

This is a branch off of the Olympia, but what does everyone think of NSAID use?
I usually take Ibuprofen to deal with my soreness at work, and so far I’ve not seen anything affecting my gains.
Who else takes ibuprofen?
I’ll take it if needed. I don’t need it on a regular basis. More than any impact on gains [which will be hard to measure and quanitfy anyway] I think needing to take it on a regular basis is symptomatic of something else that is wrong. Even athletes shouldn’t need to LIVE on pain-killers. I’ve had to for brief periods running track in college to push through minor injuries to make it through a qualifying race or something like that. But even that was not so smart, though it was probably necessary.
I took Ibuprofen regularly through school because of how intense it was and the headaches I used to get along with minor aches from lifting. I wouldn’t recommend anyone take NSAIDs everyday (if it can be avoided and no, I was not taking them daily), but I think the actual concept that it reduces muscle gains is a little overstated. I grew just fine. In fact, it is no secret that many pro bodybuilders take painkillers like M&Ms…which is also why it is believed a select few saw such detrimental health effects with that and their other poor habits.
I agree that the impact on muscle is overated. It’s the other sides that can occur with prolonged regular use that make it a practice best to avoid. I have taken very high doses [even everyday] for brief periods and I WOULD get stomaches and just generally feel lousy, though it would mask the pain from overuse injuries.
I’m sure Kai will show up to the olympia. I don’t think he will place top 5 but I think he will be in contention for top 10. I also enjoy his posing routines. I’m not the biggest fan of his physique tho. Not bashing him at all. Amazing poser and physique just not a favorite.

How many of you do negatives for body parts other than arms?
I’m really focusing my lats lately and was wondering if it would be logical doing negatives with Rows and Pull-ups.
Of course, I’m going to try them, but I’d like to hear some opinions.

I used to do them for arms but haven’t in several years. I think lowering heavy weight under control is more effective than trying to lower a weight super slowly. In the end, it all comes down to the results you get. If you find they help you gain muscle, then keep doing them. I personally don’t see much use for them anymore.
Have any of you guys read Ronnie’s book? I saw it at Borders last night and I think I might get it. Is it good? Does it have lots of stories and nostalgia type stuff like Dave Draper’s book or is it strictly training?
@Fulmen: I’ve never liked doing negatives for any bodypart personally. They just don’t do it for me. lol I like going as heavy as I can with as strict of form as I can. This seems to work best for me.
@conorh: I didn’t know Ronnie wrote a book. If you get it post if it’s good cause I’d be interested in buying it.

If i can butt in… i read a lengthy review on colemans book on Amazon, i’ll link it.
It was actually ok, especially for a beginner.
Not so much for most of us…

Wow, great thread, wish I clicked on it sooner (had to scroll through a bunch).
Dexter’s great, but will always be a 2nd places in the olimpia due to his frame. He’s one of my favorites, but can’t stand next to Jay and not look ‘small’.
Wolf does have all the requisites, and he surprised the hell out of me last year. I think he’ll truly be a contended in another year or two simply due to rerefinements, still, he could end up in 2nd if he’s really nailing everything down.
I rate Dex too, i really think he has that athletic, aesthetic, streamlined look, reminiscant of zane etc… I really do wish to see that more rewarded in the sport.
I used to really like Jay - even when he was still massive just a few years ago.. but the bigger he had to get to beat Coleman, the less i like his physique.. just too fucking big, the waist especially. Better than Coleman, but still not "X" particularly, not "streamlined" y'know?
As for Dennis Wolf, i read (and agree - he reminds me of cutler) that he will one day be the next champion, and he is certainly being hyped for it, HE even seems to know it!
For me though, he just doesn’t have the X factor, i dont think “Wow” - but what i think is X factor and what the judges do, are two different things!

I do them with wide-grip weighted pull-ups…I can do 6-8 for reps with bodyweight but I’m trying to really force the lats out, so I do weighted negatives, also helps with my grip strength.

Anyone who isn’t considering Jay a contender this year for the O is probably crazy. Whether he deserves it or not may be another story, but he’s definitely got a shot at a threepeat.

Who is your favorite BB without a pro card? I gotta say Trey Brewer…

I agree, for some reason I’m just not a fan of Wolf’s physique. I mean, the guy is huge, but not aethetically pleasing, to me, at least.
I was pretty bitter about Victor getting hurt, I thought he was the best in the O last year…
Wolf has a “different” looking physique but he is doing more than anybody to bring back the large vtapers and x frames. The large vastus lateralus and wide shoulders to give the illusion of a tiny waist. I’ve met him and trained in the gym at the same time as him. Mostly just watching in awe instead of training. lol
The vtaper is my favorite part in a bodybuilder. The gh gut is not. lol
I too was bummed about vic getting hurt and I thought he should’ve won last year. Great combo of size/aesthetics. It seems that the bigger he tries to get the worse his physique is getting tho.
Jay will definitely be a contender. He is the returning MR. O. I doubt he will win tho…
As far as favorite amateur…Michael Lockett, Brandon Curry are probably the top 2. I’d heard that Brandon Curry is a tnation member that goes by Gifted.

Definitely agree. I just wanted to hear some opinions because there are over 1300 views of this thread, and I know some newb could learn from the stuff we discuss.
As far as negatives for arms, I’ve definitely seen help with my gains from them. I highly doubt negatives will help my lat width, though.
@Gerdy: No doubt, that works for me too. Too bad you’re a weirdo and negatives don’t help you. Just pokin’ fun.
@Qaash: Will try that.
As far as Gifted! goes, I agree with X that it’s a damn shame this site didn’t put him out more. T-Nation would be even more recognized if they sponsored Brandon Curry or something. Such a shame, but it doesn’t suprise me…
…Especially when I have to make a THREAD in the bodybuilding FORUM to be able to talk about BODYBUILDING.
Ew, Double Post. I’ll use this space to start another discussion, and remember, we have noobs reading for info:
The Pros AND Cons of using Deadlifts and Squats. Should you use Deadlifts and Squats? Should you not? Discuss.

Depends on the level of BB’ing you’re at. When starting out and throughout the intermediate stages, these two lifts are essential (unless injury prevents them). Not only will they help build muscle and increase hormones being released, but they help with the neuromuscular issues people often face. By having the ability to “feel” the muscles and how they’re working, you’re learning how your body functions.
But I also think once you reach a higher level of bodybuilding, you should be more careful with these lifts. The higher up the weights go, the higher the risks that come with them. I think that’s why many pro BB’ers avoid them and stick with more concentrated movements like rows or leg presses. With their strength, they can move big weights and possibly ruin their career.
At least these are my thoughts. I’m very interesting in hearing others.
Let’s talk about smith machines.
It’s very popular to bash them even though many big guys use them.
What are your favorite smith mass builders?

They promoted Stan McQuay and not Curry? Gifted will be a stud in a few years if my crystal ball works. lol
I am a weirdo, a lot of diet/training techniques that work for soo many people just don’t cut it for me. I have a basic approach to stuff but sometimes do things a little differently and it works better for me. Maybe I have some of the gamma particles still left in me from when I was the Hulk. Idk just thinking out loud. lmao jk
