Not sure what forum to ask this question but to piggy back off of something that Waterbury said, what do you guys feel is the most fuctional bodyweight for your height? I am 6’2" @ 200 and ~8% BF. I am thinking that 210lbs at that same BF is probably best for ALL-ROUND quality of life. Any other heights/weights? I am curious for training clients of different heights what would be the best real life figure for that height.

So about 150 lbs? Wow I was WAY OFF!
Wouldn’t this depend on what stage of life you’re in, what your profession is, your goals, pre-existing medical conditions etc? I predict that this is going to be like one of those “functional strength” threads.
I suppose my functional bodyweight would depend on my functional strength, which would be a result of functional training.
At 5’6" I feel pretty useless under 200lbs, over 220 I find it pretty annoying to climb stairs, so it’s a fine balance.

Hey man, I have been lurking now and again, I felt that a thread like this was an opportune time to rear my ugly head. IMO, as others have said, functionality is based on what goals a person has, can I do what playground guy did… most likely not, but he probably can’t load atlas stones like I can, so it’s a trade off.
Obviously the answer is 218 pounds.

Well, that guy can move himself better than pretty much anyone I’ve seen. Though, thats probably more to do with being so jacked and so light rather than his overall weight. I think its more of a ratio than a target weight group.
Well, Mariusz Pudzianowski is six foot one at 313lbs. So unfunctional. Probably can’t even tie his shoes.

Calgary now, I have been busy building up my clientele as a strength coach, but I recently blew out my achilles training for a strongman comp… so I have more computer time now.
I’d say Andy Bolton’s weight is pretty functional for deadlifting over 1000 pounds.
5’5" 285lbs
Add 30 pounds for every inch over 5’5"
The majority of people want to perform well for all sorts of activities. If your profession is strongman and that is all you do then that is one thing, but i am talking about day to day activities. Like running hills to playing football to rockclimbing. Things that a normally “athletic” person would think of.

I’m thinking a wide receiver would climb rocks a little easier than a line man, but the wide receiver wouldn’t do too well stopping a defensive line man or a linebacker.
I would say a marathon runner would be better at normal, every day walking around at a shopping center, if he had a whole lot of stuff to buy, and was shopping all day.
Maybe a long distance runner physique for long term Christmas shopping in a large mall, and more of a sprinter physique for quickly running in and out of a store for those few groceries you forgot to get.
A much larger physique for buying an item that a lot of other people are competing for, like a once per year special on a popular kids toy the day after Thanksgiving.

You don’t think big people perform day to day activities? And honestly, I dont think rockclimbing is a day to day activity. It’s something only small people are good at. But football and running hill? Come on. Is that serious?

I’m pretty sure strong men can run hills and play football. Though, I would ask what normal people do you know that run up and down hills? Or rock climb for that matter?
