you let go of the bar and stand up, then bend down all over again?? am I reading you right? bend down, pull back, pick up, get hips through, HUMP IT!!! bend down to set bar on floor, reset grip pull back again, pick up bar…
And that girl in the vid closely resembles how I want to look…but thanks for being nice in saying that…
While I enjoy the bar humping I use a different internal message. From when you start the pull by loading up on the bar to lockout, the bar should be accelerating. Or at least that is what you should be trying for…that speed that comes from explosiveness. So, I’m thinking “bar speed, bar speed” internally. Bringing the hips through…i.e. humping…is necessary for that speed.
Went for a run this am - 6 miles over the bklyn bridge. Tried doing sprints here and there. Didn’t want to scare the locals.
ahhhh-go ahead, scare them! nice run…can’t even pretend to imagine a 6 mile run…

Tomorrow I have a soccer tourney nearby with an all female Latin American league. Should be fun. My mom’s coming to watch, so that’s cool. What’s even better is that a) I live a mere 10 min walk from the field b) Latin American food vendors surround the field with serious authentic eats.
now this ^^^^^^ sounds super fun. hot chicks running around and delicious eats too?? oh my. enjoy the day with your mom, that’s awesome!

Can’t wait until the tourney is over so I can get my grub on - tacos, papousas, tamales…I know I said I’d behave this weekend, but c’mon!
drool coming from the corner of mah mouf nom nom nom…
You’re all right - explosive is key! And frankly, i think I do get that bit of it. I think its finishing the move with bringing the hips through (on both squat and DL-even GMs) where I need work.
Re: the resetting, I spoke with a couple of trainers/friends since Friday about this and from what I’ve heard (a couple who watched my vids) they told me that its cool if I stand up and completely reset, stating that its preferable that I do 5 completely resetted DLs with good form, then 5 consecutive with shite form. And that yes, I can still consider it a ‘set’. Giterdone, I think you iterated this in Kimba’s log.
Also, turns out my octagonal weights don’t help matters either. I’m going to go back to that basement gym for my next set of DLs, might even get that cat Chuck to watch my form - I’ll see how much he costs.
And yes, I’m still gym shopping - just haven’t had time to go test any of them out.
Pegg, I pull sumo b/c I find it more comfortable. I tried conventional, but for some reason Sumo stuck. I can try conventional again if you think it might do me some good?..

Andy, I love when you say “got more out of repping 225 instead of going too heavy”. Lol!

Hah! That’s Jim speaking though, who squats a million pounds, not me. I bet if I tried to GM 225 in proper form I’d be doing a face plant instead.

Off to the tourney! Peace y’all

As for the sumo vs. Conventional, i try to always recommend ulling conventional, especially if you are not a competitive lifter. The sumo deadlift is a painfully technical lift and, honestlyu, if you have no plans to compete, I think that your time would be better spent just pulling conventional and doing something else. hahahaha Its also HARD on the hips, and a complete bitch to try and pull sumo for reps.
I compete and I pull conventional. I’ve always been able to pull way more conventional than sumo, so I’m not sure why that comment is relevant.
I agree that sumo is more technical and, thus, more challenging to learn. It is hard on the hips and inner thighs, so those need to be super strong. The benefits are that if you can get a wide stance (I can get my feet to the plates), the stroke is much, much shorter than conventional. But there’s a law of diminishing returns here with the foot placement/strength issue for some.
Conventional requires more back strength than sumo. The form is more forgiving, although it’s easier to injure your back, I believe, with this stance.
Thanks for all the input re: pulling sumo. I see what you’re saying Pegg and I’d be more than willing to switch to conventional. I’m going to stick with Sumo a bit longer, since as Snap says, strong legs make good Sumo, and well, my legs are pretty strong. So I’ll keep with Sumo just to see if I can get my numbers up. Once I stall I’ll restart with conventional, maybe even dabble with the Trap bar to ease into it. Thanks guys!!
So I’m offically a fucktard. Thanks to the fact that I had a leg extravaganza from Friday - Sunday, my hammie currently hates me and is all flared up and feeling strained. I’m a moron. What’s frustrating is not that the hammie is achey, but that I should’ve known better than to do three consecutive days of leg work. Grrr! Oh well, live and learn.
That said, thank god I’m on a deload week. But still, now I’m limited to doing upper body until the hammie feels better. And well, upper body lifting makes me aggro! Must be the pump. But I walk around all jacked with my arms huge, feeling like I want to punch someone in the face! I imagine this is what a hard-on feels like.

naaah- you will only be a fucktard if you allow this to happen again.
