This just struck me as SO FUNNY.
Maschy, I pull sumo because with my body type (lots of legs and arms) I feel more comfortable pulling this way. My knees and legs are out of the way, and sumo really saves my lower back. Yeah, I’ve found it tricky to learn. But I can pull more weight, more easily sumo-style, so I’m sticking with it.
One more thing: Jason said “its a complete bitch to try and pull sumo for reps” which is probably why us inexperienced sumo-ers have to completely reset the damned lift in between reps to get the form right. Snap doesn’t reset, nor does Betty but they pull conv.
when you guys say, ‘stand up,’ do you mean letting go of the bar and standing all the way up? I’d like to try sumo one day…I basically sumo squat, so why not?

Betty, that is exactly what I’ve taken to doing on my max effort weights. Let go of the bar, stand up, take a breath, then totally reset the next rep just like the initial one. On my working sets, I usually won’t reset too much.
I used to not let go of the bar, but just stretch out my legs and then go back into the squat position. But that really led to alot of back rounding, so I’ve abandoned that idea.
I’m not sure what Kimba does, but I definitely let go and stand up. Here’s my last pull so you see what I mean. I know I spend an ass load of energy standing up, getting back into position, etc. etc., that could be better used, I don’t know, LIFTING. So this is my quandary.
HA! Sorry about the doggy Betty - Deb must’ve left the SAMA gate open again.

Maschy darlin - I truly don’t care how long you take to set up between reps. I could stare at that ass and thighs for hours…

Oh, nice chins! 7 reps on your first set is awesome!
ok, you already know i have a seat for you on my face so i’ll spare the ass kissing comment.
looks like your shoulders are in front of the bar when you pull, and that youre jerking the bar at the start of each rep. part of your setup should be taking the tension out of your arms while keeping your back arched and your upper back pulled together as much as possible. right before you pull, if you let go of the bar, you should fall backwards.
the pulling back thing got me for awhile, until i had 5 huge guys yelling it at me while i was lifting. “OH so i should pull BACK, huh? who knew.”
Nooooo! I’m supposed to be incognito. Meanwhile, did you get a look at my belly - looks like I’m on HGH. I’m not btw…
Claire, thanks for the input mama. I hear what you’re saying and I’ll fix this on my next DL session. Sweet!
Programming note:
I’m heading on a little weekend getaway where I’ll be drinking Malibu Bay Breezes away from the reproachful looks of my cats whilst getting my nalgas massaged by a pair of sturdy hands. I’ll be back Monday in full force and ready for action! Until then, happy lifting bitches!
Thanks for the well wishes ladies and I must say, I had an absolutely amazing weekend!! Ate good food, drank a few too many and most importantly was in great great company raises eyebrows
Aaaaand I got new boots - I will surely score tons of goals with these fancy kicks. And look! Adidas.
Tonight I’m squatting. Really looking forward to it.
Off to work! I’ll catch up with you everyone in a bit.
You’re right, you may be expending alot more energy standing up after each rep. I’d keep my hands on the bar and work on reloading the hips…while keeping the tension in the upper body.
