The Beautiful Gain

Hi Masch…
Sorry to hear about the hammie…

You may wanna check out Elite’s articles. They have some very good sport-specific training articles for athletes.

Ack! Hammie strain/sprain :frowning: I wish I could help. I will gladly volunteer to stretch it out and massage it for you, other than that I is useless :frowning: Maybe some arnica cream will help with the healing but that is all I got.

Hope it gets better soon.

How is the hamstring feeling today?

Heal up!

Hmm…yes Doc, your massaging and cream applying skills will be very useful now.

Thanks nlmain! and Skye, I’ll check out those articles.

Bobbi - fair enough  And I WILL hold you to it.

So I just came back from the doc and she said I have a lateral hamstring sprain that is “no big deal” - i even think she scoffed, but maybe she was just clearing her throat…bitch

Anywho, she said that I can’t play soccer or run for 2 weeks, which I’m assuming is 2 weeks from the date of injury. However, she did say I could ride the bike and/or do eliptical to get blood flowing - and I’m adding to this list of lame exercises pilates. So I’ll stick with this for the next week or so until things start feeling normal. I’m sure I can continue with my upper body lifting too. So that’s good.

I was supposed to do the PT today as well, but the doc was behind schedule and I needed to get to work. So I rescheded for tomorrow in the afternoon. I’ll get more concrete info as to what I can/should do in order to be fit for play in 2 weeks when we have our first game. At any rate, the doc said I probs don’t need PT, but that I should do at least a session or two since I’m so gung-ho on getting back on the pitch.

Everyone and their mom keeps telling me that I have to ‘learn to take it easy’ - so this will be a hard pill to swallow.

My new mental hurdles are these:

  1. fear of not getting better in time for the first game
  2. fear of re-injury during game
  3. having to really, truly watch my diet (instead of pretending I do and then bitching that i’m a bloated)

So all around kind of precarious mental state for little Mascherano. But trying not to be such a puss-bag and to remain optimistic and most importantly stop obsessing over this.

I’m doing an ART session tonight - yay! - i’m really excited for this because I’m hoping it might really facilitate my recovery AND hoping they might be able to assess my imbalances and work on my other problems (hips and flexors).

I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Oh hai! You just snuck in there.

Thanks mama - I will.

I used to do that…pretending with the diet…it didn’t get me very far…

glad you are realizing this now!

I <3 ART. That is all.

Now THAT is promising news. Injuries suck ass, plain and simple. We’ve all been through it, and survived to play another day.

You are doing a great job of keeping your head up and being smart!

rough news on the ham- I did it two times, always while sprinting
and like you ,atheltes make the worst patients.

how did the epsom salt bath work?
try an ice bath they suck but work throw a few bags of ice in a cold bath
and grin it out.

do you do any glute activation type drills?

Yay! I hope it gets you healed & back on that soccer pitch quick!

Hey, so how’s my favorite “puss-bag”? Hahaha you know I’m just kidding, Masch. Just wanted to check up on you and see how you’re doing… and to give you some support and a pep talk!!

First off, did you punch the doc in the face, a la Print style?? hehe. Second, the doc said take it easy for 2 weeks, so if your 1st game is in 2 weeks, think positive that you’ll be ready! Take it easy, but stay strong and work the parts that don’t involve your hammies. Third, when you do get back into the game, be careful, but don’t let fear hold you back. Read about prevention, so you minimize the chances of re-injury. Then when you’re ready, strengthen those hammies even more so your quads don’t out-do them, if that was a factor. Did you ever come up with a theory on what happened? From what I can see, you’re tough as nails. NO FEAR, girl! Looking forward to hearing more on your progress

yes, stop obsessing Masch, you will be over this quick. but take it easy so you can heal, or you won’t be playing any games let alone the first one. ;/

Oh my god guys, thank you so much. I hate to say it but i really need the encouragement. I’m also glad to see that some of you have dealt with injury and have remained positive and healthy  Thanks for keeping me on track.

Over all I’m feeling better. The ART was freaking incredible. The Dr. applied heat, then did a massage with biofreeze (that shit’s awesome) and then ultrasound and some poking around. Stretched me out, painful and pleasurable. I highly recommend this to anyone.

kmcnyc - I do glute work as part of my accessory work, but nothing specific to activation. I do have a problem firing my glutes, so I’m sure this would help. Any recommendations?

HT - what you wrote really struck a cord with me. Thank you so much!! Clearly you know what I’m talking about and you’ve really put me at ease

So today I trained a little - just upper body. Doc said it was ok. Basically I did bench day minus the bench. I added chest flys. It was fine all things considered.

Chinups - 7, 5, 5, 3, 2
pushups w/ plate - 15x10, 3x15x25 < broken into sets

DB Rows - 15x12, 3x15x15 < i was going to do these standing, but the minute i even attempted one I felt it in the hammie. Luckily that sexy sexy piece Nick was working out close by and gave me a tip - told me to do them on the incline bench. Sigh.

Chest Flyes - 15x15, 3x15x20 < This was hilarious. I kept getting distracted by my quavering boobies. I even had to stop mid set to compose myself - I’m so juvenile. On the plus side, the pump on that shit is ridic. My tits are so perky! I’ll have to do this before going out!

And that was that. Stretched and foam rolled the upper back. Tomorrow I can foam roll the legs and do some light exercise. Thinking of hitting pilates. I can take it easy.

Also gonna ask the ART guy to check out my scaps. Right one keeps bothering me.

You sound like you’re in a better head space- good for you Masch. And you rocked that jersey in the T-Vixen thread. Just sayin.
cheers

What she said.

^ Yeah, what they said.

^ how YOU doin?

Hi Masch!

Do chest supported rows - take the hammies out  + more focus on scap retraction = healthy shoulders blah blah lol

coolio. but i can’t go heavy :frowning:

Edit: Oh! Hi y’all. Thanks! and it is feeling better - no gyming today

that’s the point of chest supported - you can’t go heavy anyway. I only do like 30s DB chest supported rows and focus on scap retraction - it’s a good exercise
